Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Space and Naval Warfare (SPAWAR) Systems Center, San Diego (SSC San Diego) Simulation and Human Technology Division has developed and improved its second generation 3-D Volumetric Display System for displaying data, information, and scenes in a three dimensional volume of image space. The system has good potential for many military and commercial applications. Based on a computer controlled laser optics system that projects three laser beams simultaneously onto a 36-inch diameter/18-inch high double helix spinning at 600 revolutions per minute, this system presents 3-D images in an addressable 10 cubic feet of cylindrical volume. This report discusses the four basic disciplines used in development of the Improved Second Generation 3-D Volumetric Display System and provides examples of practical applications of the technology.

Book Synopsis Volumetric Three-Dimensional Display Systems by : Barry G. Blundell
Download or read book Volumetric Three-Dimensional Display Systems written by Barry G. Blundell and published by Wiley-IEEE Press. This book was released on 2000-03-17 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive study of approaches to three-dimensional visualization by volumetric display systems This groundbreaking volume provides an unbiased and in-depth discussion on a broad range of volumetric three-dimensional display systems. It examines the history, development, design, and future of these displays, and considers their potential for application to key areas in which visualization plays a major role. Drawing substantially on material that was previously unpublished or available only in patent form, the authors establish the first comprehensive technical and mathematical formalization of the field, and examine a number of different volumetric architectures. System level design strategies are presented, from which proposals for the next generation of high-definition predictable volumetric systems are developed. To ensure that researchers will benefit from work already completed, they provide: * Descriptions of several recent volumetric display systems prepared from material supplied by the teams that created them * An abstract volumetric display system design paradigm * An historical summary of 90 years of development in volumetric display system technology * An assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of many of the systems proposed to date * A unified presentation of the underlying principles of volumetric display systems * A comprehensive bibliography Beautifully supplemented with 17 color plates that illustrate volumetric images and prototype displays, Volumetric Three-Dimensional Display Systems is an indispensable resource for professionals in imaging systems development, scientific visualization, medical imaging, computer graphics, aerospace, military planning, and CAD/CAE.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides surgeons with important insights into laser technologies as well as a sound understanding of their current and potential applications within oral and maxillofacial surgery and related disciplines. The opening chapters focus on the relevant physical background, the technology of the typically used lasers, laser–tissue interactions, and the treatment systems. Detailed information is then provided on the various established applications of laser treatments, including in relation to skin and mucosa and the dental hard tissues and bone. Special applications are also described, for example with respect to periodontal surgery, peri-implantitis therapy, photodynamic treatment, holography and additive manufacturing. The book closes by examining technologies that will soon be available for application in hospitals, topics which are currently the subject of research, and laser safety. Beyond surgeons, the book will be of value for engineers and scientists working in the field of medical engineering using lasers.

Book Synopsis Cardiovascular Catheterization and Intervention by : Debabrata Mukherjee
Download or read book Cardiovascular Catheterization and Intervention written by Debabrata Mukherjee and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2010-08-24 with total page 742 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of invasive and interventional cardiology is dynamic with frequent advances in both technique and technology. An internationally-renowned team of editors and over 100 contributors have shaped this textbook to provide clinicians with a thorough guide that covers the procedural and peri-procedural aspects of coronary, peripheral, and structural heart disease diagnostics and interventions. This comprehensive and highly illustrated textbook presents critical information for anyone active in the field of cardiovascular interventions, including: Practical suggestions on how to set up a cardiovascular catheterization laboratory, choose the right equipment and minimize radiation exposure. A careful analysis of the general principles of percutaneous coronary interventions, the specific knowledge needed in different clinical scenarios, as well as the patient selection criteria for each invasive procedure. In-depth coverage of non-coronary interventions, including 13 chapters on peripheral vascular interventions, including carotid artery stenting, as well as newer procedures for intracranial stenosis treatment, septal defect repair, and left atrial appendage closure. An incorporation of emerging procedures in structural heart disease, such as percutaneous aortic valve replacement and mitral valve repair—that although not presently mainstream, will likely become an important domain of interventional cardiologists. Given the importance of appropriate training and credentialing for clinicians, the textbook also includes current national guidelines and policies on the performance of the various procedures.
