Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this two-volume work is osseo integration. It discusses the use of glue to attach bony tissue as well as the use of the absence of biochemical interactions between some oxide ceramics (particularly pure A1203 ceramic) and the adjacent tissue. This book also demonstrates the possibility of controlling the interface remodelling by the stresses and strains created by the insertion of the implant. Written in a concise, easy-to-read format, this text covers the use of implants in orthopedics, maxillo-facial surgery, and dentistry. All those involved with bioengineering, orthopedics, maxillo-facial surgery, dentistry, and biomechanics will find this reference to be of particular interest.

The first four chapters focus on the basic science of GBR in implant dentistry. Helps the reader to understand the biologic and biomaterial background of this well-documented and well-established surgical technique in implant dentistry—essential knowledge for the use of barrier membranes in patients. Focuses on the clinical applications of GBR. Presents specific indications and describes the criteria for patient selection, the step-by-step surgical procedure, and aspects of postoperative treatment. Reflects the immense progress of GBR in the past 10 to 15 years and the current clinical status of GBR in implant dentistry. Like its predecessor, is a must-have resource for all clinicians with interest and experience in implant dentistry. [editor].

This book was released on 1996-03-01 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a split-mouth design, 6 implants were placed in edentulous mandibular ridges of 10 mongrel dogs after preparation of 6 cylindrical mid- crestal defects, 5 mm in depth and 10 mm in diameter. An implant site was then prepared in the center of each defect to a depth of 5 mm beyond the apical extent of the defect. One mandibular quadrant received three commercially pure titanium screw implants (3.75 x 10 mm), while the contralateral side received three titanium double plasma sprayed hydroxyapatite-coated root-form implants (3.3 x 10 mm). Consequently, the coronal 5 mm of each implant was surrounded by a circumferential surgically created defect approximately 3 mm wide and 5 mm deep. The three dental implants in each quadrant received either canine demineralized freeze-dried bone (DFDBA) and an expanded polytetrafluoroethylene membrane (e- PTFE), membrane alone, or no treatment which served as the control. Standardized radiographs were taken at one week and 4 months post-implant placement. Computer-Assisted Densitometric Image Analysis (CADIA) was performed for each of the implants. After 4 months of healing, v block sections of the mandibles were harvested for light microscopy and histomorphometric analysis.

Book excerpt: Fully illustrated, Prehistoric Figurines brings a radical new approach to one of the most exciting, but poorly understood artefacts from our prehistoric past. Studying the interpretation of prehistoric figurines from Neolithic southeast Europe, Bailey introduces recent developments from the fields of visual culture studies and cultural anthropology, and investigates the ways in which representations of human bodies were used by the pre-historic people to understand their own identities, to negotiate relationships and to make subtle political points. Bailey examines four critical conditions: * figurines as miniatures * figurines as three-dimensional representations * figurines as anthropomorphs * figurines as representations. Through these conditions, the study travels beyond the traditional mechanisms of interpretation and takes the debate past the out-dated interpretations of figurines as Mother-Goddess as Bailey examines individual prehistoric figurines in their original archaeological contexts and views them in the light of modern exploitations of the human form. Students and scholars of History and Archaeology will benefit immensely from Bailey's close understanding of the material culture and pre-history of the Balkans.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first comprehensive book to address in-situ mechanics approach, which relies on real-time imaging during mechanical measurements of materials. The book presents tools, techniques and methods to interrogate the deformation characteristics of a wide array of material classes, and how the mechanics and the material microstructures are correlated. In-situ approach provides unprecedented ability to decipher the mechanical behavior of materials from atomic length scales all the way up to bulk-scale, which is not possible using conventional means. The book also addresses how to capture the deformation behavior of materials under different stress-states and extreme environments. The book will be useful to the new generation of students, scientists and researchers working on the frontiers of material design and innovation as they aim to develop new materials with predictable mechanical properties and technological applications. This book can also serve as a textbook aimed at upper-level undergraduates and graduate-level students who are beginning to delve into the mechanics of materials. Catering to a generation of students that appreciates videos as a didactic tool, this book contains numerous videos to supplement problems, solutions, and case studies.
