Fenómenos como la globalización, que conlleva una descentralización del proceso productivo, la liberalización de las economías, y la creación y ampliación de grandes áreas comerciales, han desembocado en una expansión continuada de los intercambios comerciales internacionales y, por tanto, del tráfico marítimo y de la actividad en los puertos. Los estudios de impacto de las infraestructuras de transporte en general, y de los puertos en particular, pretenden estimar los beneficios asociados a la existencia y funcionamiento de las infraestructuras en su área geográfica de influencia. De las diferentes propuestas metodológicas la más utilizada en dichos estudios, y la elegida en este trabajo, es el análisis input-output. Nuestro caso de estudio es el Puerto de Las Palmas. Su estratégica situación geográfica, las condiciones de su bahía y los servicios que presta le convierten en uno de los principales puertos en las rutas marítimas entre Europa http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europa, África http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%81frica y América http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Am%C3%A9rica. Tal es así que desde el puerto de Las Palmas puede llegarse a unos 380 puertos de todo el mundo gracias a una treintena de líneas marítimas de pasaje y carga.. Se trata del primer puerto del Atlántico Medio, el de mayor tránsito en la encrucijada entre Europa http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europa, África http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%81frica y América http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Am%C3%A9rica. A su vez, constituye uno de los principales puertos de España y el primero de la zona geográfica de África occidental http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%81frica_occidental. El Puerto de Las Palmas es el primer puerto de Canarias con una importancia económica evidente y bien conocida en su función de infraestructura y servicios para la importación y exportación de mercancías, y otra no suficientemente subrayada de actividad de exportación de servicios a buques que reparan, avituallan o realizan operaciones de tránsito de contenedores y que podrían realizar estas actividades en otros puertos. Lo que este estudio persigue es obtener la imagen más precisa posible de todas las actividades económicas portuarias y los agentes que en ellas intervienen, así como el efecto multiplicador de esta actividad sobre el conjunto de la economía canaria. Asimismo, ofrecer una metodología completa de estimación del impacto económico de un puerto para cualquier otra área geográfica.

The metrification of water uses and their monetary value is a first important step in understanding how reallocation of water among users could help mitigating many of current water problems in Spain. However, water reallocation among users or from users to nature is far from simple. Initiatives portrayed as the solution to the water governance ‘jigsaw’ – e.g. water trade, improved water use efficiency, users collective action, public participation – are not free of difficulties and shortcomings.
