Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles (PNGV) has identified the compression-ignition, direct-injection (CIDI) diesel engine as a promising technology in meeting the PNGV goal of an 80-mpg, production prototype, mid-size sedan by 2004. challenges remain in reducing emission levels of the CIDI engine to meet future emissions standards. Techniques under consideration for this project include the use of an alternative fuel (ADMM15) and the use of different lubricants. The objective of this program was to perform an initial screening of three different lubricants to obtain information on their contribution to the particulates emitted by the engine and the potential for emission reduction in a CIDI engine.

Download or read book Fuel and Lubricant Effects on Exhaust Emissions from a Light-Duty CIDI Powered Vehicle written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of fuel and engine lubricant on particulate and gaseous exhaust emissions from a modern, light-duty diesel vehicle were determined. Four engine crankcase lubricants and six fuels were evaluated by operating the test vehicle on a 48-inch single roll chassis dynamometer, utilizing the Federal Test Procedure (FTP-75) for light-duty vehicles and the SFTP-US06 aggressive driving cycle. Lubricants used were both conventional and synthetic formulations, and varied in viscosity from SAE 0W30 to SAE 15W50. The fuels were a prototype ultra-low sulfur diesel, and blends containing various oxygenate compounds. A water macroemulsion fuel was also evaluated.

Book Synopsis Mitigating Environmental Impact of Petroleum Lubricants by : Ignatio Madanhire
Download or read book Mitigating Environmental Impact of Petroleum Lubricants written by Ignatio Madanhire and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-09 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores effective environmental impact mitigation for petroleum-based lubricants to reduce their negative persistence during usage and upon end-of-life disposal. The book reviews the basic tribology of lubricants as well as initiatives that may enhance the environmental and economic effectiveness of lubricating oils from the composition design perspective across industries. Considering the blending, application, and disposal of petroleum lubricants in a holistic manner, the book presents and extends current best practices that minimize or eliminate adverse environmental impact throughout the product’s life cycle. The book reviews methods including: raw material substitution, minimizing oil losses during and after manufacturing, raw material and energy consumption reduction, and environmentally friendly applications of oil disposal as ways forward for cleaner and more effective production. This book provides readers with strategies for incorporating cleaner production practices into their operations – a benefit to both environmental legal compliance and business competitiveness – all the while preserving the environment for sustainable development. The book is therefore of interest to both manufacturers and consumers in the lubricants industry.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ford Motor Company, with ExxonMobil and FEV, participated in the Department of Energy's (DOE) Ultra-Clean Transportation Fuels Program with the goal to develop an innovative emission control system for light-duty diesel vehicles. The focus on diesel engine emissions was a direct result of the improved volumetric fuel economy (up to 50%) and lower CO2 emissions (up to 25%) over comparable gasoline engines shown in Europe. Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) with aqueous urea as the NOx reductant and a Catalyzed Diesel Particulate Filter (CDPF) were chosen as the primary emission control system components. The program expected to demonstrate more than 90% durable reduction in particulate matter (PM) and NOx emissions on a light-duty truck application, based on the FTP-75 drive cycle. Very low sulfur diesel fuel (
