Book excerpt: Who is Hussain son of Ali? Why do we need to know about him? Why is it important to know about the Battle of Karbala? Why is it important to know about it today? These are just a few of the questions that this short booklet intends to answer. It shows how Hussain is a significant historical figure not only for Muslims but for all people because he took a stand for truth, justice, and human dignity. This slim volume should be a welcome addition to the libraries of both Muslims and non-Muslims. It sheds light on the horrific events we see playing out in the world today as a consequence of events that took place in the vaults of Islamic history from the time of its formative early years in the Arabian peninsula.

Book Synopsis The Lineage of Prophet Muhammad pbuh by : Saiyed BadreAlam A. Bukhari
Download or read book The Lineage of Prophet Muhammad pbuh written by Saiyed BadreAlam A. Bukhari and published by Saiyed BadreAlam A. Bukhari. This book was released on 2017-08-11 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Book “The Lineage of the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ” is all about what it is subtitled “The true history of Islam”. Our book describes the circumstances of Huzur’sﷺ inheritance (Virasat e Rasulﷺ), Maula Ali alaihissalam, and from the lineage of Huzur-e-Aqdasﷺ till Maula Ali alaihissalam and twelve Imam till Hazrat Imam Mehdi alaihissalam. Because our lineage begins from Hazrat Imam Naqi alaihissalam as they are our progenitors, we have given the descriptions of their sacrifices in the path of Islam. We have also described their circumstances. The purpose of writing this book is to let the people know the story of torture done on Huzur’sﷺ physical heirs and the nearest companions and the confusions created after the sad demise of Huzurﷺ. After the Prophet, Hazrat Abubakar Siddiq alaihissalam was crowned as a Caliph. After that Hazrat Umar alaihissalam was given this post and then Hazrat Usman-e-Gani alaihissalam was appointed as a Caliph. He also was martyred. After the death of Hazrat Usman-e-Gani alaihissalam, the conditions were very delicate. Due to the conspiracies of Bani Umiyyah, Islam was to be leaned towards the controls of kings. Maula-e-Kainat Hazrat Ali Murtuza alaihissalam was busy collecting the Qur’anic verses. He was deeply sunk into prayers and practices. During this time, big shots of Islam came to him and requested him to shoulder the responsibilities of Islam. He bluntly refused. A meeting of the executive committee (Shura–the executive committee) was convened, and, after a great insistence, Hazrat Ali alaihissalam accepted these responsibilities. And as a result of unanimous agreement, he became one of the selected of the Momins (Mominin Muntakhab). He prevented the people from going wild in their behavior. He had to fight many wars (briefly explained each war inside the book). He turned all the malicious plans of Bani Umiyyah into a great failure. And then how Hazrat Imam Hasan a.s. appointed and after him, Hazrat Imam Husain a.s. The author also included the details of the War of Karbala and incidents that happened after Karbala. This book consists of the life details of all the twelve (12) Imam’s and about their books, works, and much more.

Download or read book Hajj to the Heart written by Scott Kugle and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2021-12-28 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Against the sweeping backdrop of South Asian history, this is a story of journeys taken by sixteenth-century reformist Muslim scholars and Sufi mystics from India to Arabia. At the center is the influential Sufi scholar Shaykh Ali Muttaqi and his little-known network of disciples. Scott Kugle relates how Ali Muttaqi, an expert in Arabic, scriptural hermeneutics, and hadith, left his native South Asia and traversed treacherous seas to make the Hajj to Mecca. Settling in Mecca, he continued to influence his homeland from overseas. Kugle draws on his original translations of Arabic and Persian manuscripts, never before available in English, to trace Ali Muttaqi's devotional writings, revealing how the Hajj transformed his spiritual life and political loyalties. The story expands across three generations of peripatetic Sufi masters in the Mutaqqi lineage as they travel for purposes of pilgrimage, scholarship, and sometimes simply for survival along Indian Ocean maritime routes linking global Muslim communities. Exploring the political intrigue, scholarly debates, and diverse social milieus that shaped the colorful personalities of his Sufi subjects, Kugle argues for the importance of Indian Sufi thought in the study of hadith and of ethics in Islam. Download or read book Karbala written by Premchand and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022-10-12 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At a time when communal antagonism was at its peak (1920s), Premchand was perceptive enough to fathom the cause for religious intolerance being rooted in mutual ignorance of communities about each other’s faith. To alleviate this, he decided to write a play about Karbala, a 7th Century event in Islamic history, in which the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, Imam Hussain withstood the brute forces of the debauch ruler Yazid and sacrificed his life along with that of his companions and family members in the battlefield of Karbala, in modern day Iraq. In an unprecedented leap of faith, Premchand’s play draws the Dutt brothers, descendants of Ashwathhama, spending their exile years in Arabia, in the battlefield of Karbala. Inspired by the uprightness of the Imam and bound by their moral duty to justice, the seven brothers join forces with the Imam and sacrifice their lives for him, singing praises of their motherland Bharatwarsh. An illuminating blend of historical facts and imagination, this outstanding play reflects Premchand’s profound and enlightening grasp of the communal conflict in early nineteenth century India and his unique way of imagining the nation along the Gandhian principles of communal harmony and co-existence of religions.

Download or read book Islamic Images and Ideas written by John Andrew Morrow and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2013-11-25 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These 24 studies on specific symbols, images and icons from the Muslim tradition are authored by scholars from around the world. Divided into four sections, the Divine, the Spiritual, the Physical, and the Societal, they examine theological issues, such as divine unity, creation, wrath, and justice, as well as spiritual subjects, such as the straight path, servitude, perfection, the jinn, intoxication, and the status of Fatimah, the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad. Essays also explore the symbolism of physical elements such as water, trees, seas, ships, food, the male sexual organ, eyebrows, and camels; and the significance of more socially-centered subjects such as the center, ijtihad, governance, otherness, Ashura, and Arabic. Drawing from the Qur'an and Sunnah, the essays address these topics with tact and respect from a position that appreciates exegetical diversity while remaining within the realm of unity.
Book Synopsis Power, Legitimacy and the Public Sphere by : Amin Sharifi Isaloo
Download or read book Power, Legitimacy and the Public Sphere written by Amin Sharifi Isaloo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-04-28 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A ground-breaking study of political transformations in non-Western societies, this book applies anthropological, sociological and political concepts to the recent history of Iran to explore the role played by a ritual theatrical performance (Ta’ziyeh) and its symbols on the construction of public mobilisations. With particular attention to three formative phases – the 1978–79 Islamic Revolution, the 1980–88 Iran–Iraq War, and the 2009 Green Movement – the author concentrates on the relations between symbols of the ritual performance and the public sphere to shed light on the ways in which the symbols of Ta’ziyeh were used to claim political legitimacy. Thus, the book elucidates how symbols and images of a ritual performance can be utilised by ‘tricksters’, such as political actors and fanatical religious leaders, to take advantage of the prolongation of a state of transition within a society, and so manipulate the public in order to mobilise crowds and movements to fulfil their own interests and concerns. An insightful analysis of political mobilisation explained in terms of a set of interrelated master concepts such as ‘liminality’, ‘trickster’ and ‘schismogenesis’, Power, Legitimacy and the Public Sphere integrates theoretical, empirical and ‘diagnostic’ perspectives in order to investigate and illustrate links between the public sphere and religious and cultural rituals. As such, it will appeal to scholars of sociology, politics and anthropology with interests in social theory, public mobilisations and political transformation.
Book Synopsis Treading on Hallowed Ground by : C. Christine Fair
Download or read book Treading on Hallowed Ground written by C. Christine Fair and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2008-09-29 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After America's Iraq adventure devolved into a debacle, a chorus of commentators and analysts noted that the U.S. military had no plan to fight a counterinsurgency campaign. Given the failure of conventional tactics, America in the last two years has redoubled its efforts to develop a new strategy to fight the Iraqi insurgency, and has gone so far to place our leading counterinsurgency expert, General David Petraeus, in charge of the Iraq theater. In sum, there seems to be a growing consensus that for better or worse, counterinsurgency will be a core tactic in future American military campaigns. Iraq, of course, presents special problems to the U.S. because of the intensity of religious belief and sectarianism. How do we fight against an insurgency that so often strategically positions itself on 'hallowed ground'--mosques and shrines? Yet Iraq is not unique. As the contributors to Treading on Hallowed Ground show, counterinsurgency efforts on religiously contentious terrain is a widespread phenomenon in recent times, ranging from North Africa to Central and Southeast Asia. Here, C. Christine Fair and Sumit Ganguly have assembled an impressive group of experts to explore the most important counterinsurgency efforts in sacred spaces in our era: churches in Israel, mosques and shrines in Iraq, the Sikh Golden Temple in India, mosques and temples in Kashmir, the Krue Se Mosque in Thailand, and the Grand Mosque in Saudi Arabia. Taken together, the essays comprise the first comprehensive account of this increasingly pivotal component of contemporary war.
