Book Synopsis Longing for the Lost Caliphate by : Mona Hassan
Download or read book Longing for the Lost Caliphate written by Mona Hassan and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2018-08-14 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the United States and Europe, the word "caliphate" has conjured historically romantic and increasingly pernicious associations. Yet the caliphate's significance in Islamic history and Muslim culture remains poorly understood. This book explores the myriad meanings of the caliphate for Muslims around the world through the analytical lens of two key moments of loss in the thirteenth and twentieth centuries. Through extensive primary-source research, Mona Hassan explores the rich constellation of interpretations created by religious scholars, historians, musicians, statesmen, poets, and intellectuals. Hassan fills a scholarly gap regarding Muslim reactions to the destruction of the Abbasid caliphate in Baghdad in 1258 and challenges the notion that the Mongol onslaught signaled an end to the critical engagement of Muslim jurists and intellectuals with the idea of an Islamic caliphate. She also situates Muslim responses to the dramatic abolition of the Ottoman caliphate in 1924 as part of a longer trajectory of transregional cultural memory, revealing commonalities and differences in how modern Muslims have creatively interpreted and reinterpreted their heritage. Hassan examines how poignant memories of the lost caliphate have been evoked in Muslim culture, law, and politics, similar to the losses and repercussions experienced by other religious communities, including the destruction of the Second Temple for Jews and the fall of Rome for Christians. A global history, Longing for the Lost Caliphate delves into why the caliphate has been so important to Muslims in vastly different eras and places.

Book Synopsis Caliph and Imam Hassan by : Qurrat Ul Ain Abidiy
Download or read book Caliph and Imam Hassan written by Qurrat Ul Ain Abidiy and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-01-23 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The life of Imam Hasan (as) was both eventful and full of lessons, and yet the significance of his role seems to have been ignored, forgotten, or eclipsed by the extent of focus on Imam Husayn (as). A common misconception is that he was just a peace-maker, yet nothing could be further from the truth. For Imam Hasan (as) was overwhelmingly and popularly appointed as Caliph due to his charisma, knowledge and eminent piety. Then he led the Islamic Caliphate for six months with authority and control, and he prepared his army, leading it to war against Muawiya and exhorting it to be brave and unflinching. Moreover, the author demonstrates, with exacting scholarship using authentic sources and the motherbooks of history, how there would have been no Karbala without the groundwork laid by Imam Hasan (as). The book also has great value as a manual of instruction on how one should obey the Imam of one's time, in war and in peace .Thus making it an excellent way of preparing for the emergence of the Twelfth Imam (ajtf).
Book Synopsis Imam Ali The Righteous Caliph From Quran & Sunnah by : Abu Hassan

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents compelling evidence from the Qur'an and Sunnah to argue that Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib deserved to be the first caliph of Islam. It meticulously examines verses from the Qur'an, such as the Verse of Purification (33:33) and the Verse of Mubahala (3:61), which highlight the elevated status of the Prophet's household, including Imam Ali. Additionally, it analyzes key hadiths, including the Hadith of Ghadir Khumm, where the Prophet Muhammad declared, "Whomsoever I am his Mawla, Ali is also his Mawla," and the Hadith of the Two Weighty Things, which emphasizes following the Qur'an and the Prophet's progeny. The book also discusses the Hadith of Position, likening Ali's relationship to Muhammad as Aaron's was to Moses, underscoring his rightful leadership. Through these religious texts, the book argues that Imam Ali's close relationship with the Prophet, his unparalleled knowledge, and his unwavering commitment to justice make a strong case for his precedence as the first caliph.

Book Synopsis The Succession to Muhammad by : Wilferd Madelung
Download or read book The Succession to Muhammad written by Wilferd Madelung and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a comprehensive study of early Islamic history, Wilferd Madelung examines the conflict which developed after Muhammad's death for the leadership of the Muslim community. He pursues the history of this conflict through the reign of the four 'Rightly Guided' caliphs to its climax in the first inter-Muslim war. The outcome of the war, which marked the demise of the reign of the Early Companions, resulted in the lasting schism between Sunnite and Shi'ite Islam. Contrary to recent scholarly trends, the author brings out Ali's early claim to legitimate succession, which gained support from the Shi'a, and offers a convincing reinterpretation of early Islamic history. This book will make a major contribution to the debate over succession. Wilferd Madelung's book The Succession to Muhammad has been awarded the Best Book of the Year prize by the Islamic Republic of Iran for the year 1997.

Book excerpt: The Rashidun Caliphs are the eminent stars of the Holy Prophet who led Muslims not just physically but also spiritually. The policies and rules they implemented in their respective eras were the true reflection of the teachings of the Holy Prophet. This is why the Rashidun era was the golden era of the Muslims. Implementing the teachings of Prophet Mohammad, made them not only the pioneers in introducing the concept of the welfare state, but they also set its exemplary foundation for the world to follow. This book is unique because unlike other history books it provides proofs of Imam Hassan as the fifth rightly guided Caliph. The end of Rashidun Caliphate was the beginning of downfall of Muslims because the Muslims let go the spiritual values of Prophet Mohammad given to them by the Rashidun Caliphs. The author, Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman in an unbiased manner and picturesque words has described the incidents from history for the readers to decide for themselves who was at fault and what caused the end of Rashidun Caliphate. He has also mentioned the spiritual orders that emerged from each rightly guided Caliph. These spiritual orders are definitely a medium of guidance for the seekers of Allah. #sultanulfaqrpublications @sultanulashiqeenbooks #therashiduncaliphate #khulfarashideen #englishbooks #biographyofkhulfarashieen #rashiduncaliphs #rashiduncaliphate #abubakrsiddiq #umarfarooq #umaribnkhattab #usmanibnaffan #aliibnabitalib #hazratali #hazratusman #hazratumar #hazratabubakr

Download or read book The Prophet's Heir written by Hassan Abbas and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2021-02-23 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The life and legacy of one of Mohammad’s closest confidants and Islam’s patron saint: Ali ibn Abi Talib Ali ibn Abi Talib is arguably the single most important spiritual and intellectual authority in Islam after prophet Mohammad. Through his teachings and leadership as fourth caliph, Ali nourished Islam. But Muslims are divided on whether he was supposed to be Mohammad’s political successor—and he continues to be a polarizing figure in Islamic history. Hassan Abbas provides a nuanced, compelling portrait of this towering yet divisive figure and the origins of sectarian division within Islam. Abbas reveals how, after Mohammad, Ali assumed the spiritual mantle of Islam to spearhead the movement that the prophet had led. While Ali’s teachings about wisdom, justice, and selflessness continue to be cherished by both Shia and Sunni Muslims, his pluralist ideas have been buried under sectarian agendas and power politics. Today, Abbas argues, Ali’s legacy and message stands against that of ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and Taliban.
