Reluctantly, she discarded her dream of becoming a physician in favor of being a wife to one. Nineteen years later, Abby discovers her powerful, well-connected husband has been keeping a secret—an eight-year-old son from an old affair. Devastated by the betrayal, she flees to her grandmother’s hometown on the Amalfi coast. There, Abby meets Daniel Quinn, a former American soldier turned photographer. As she travels across Europe with him, she begins to imagine a new life, one without a controlling and unfaithful husband. Empowered by a newfound sense of freedom and courage, Abby returns to St. Augustine to settle things with her husband. But nothing goes as planned, and what awaits may very well destroy her.

To celebrate his seventieth birthday, Kingdom Come has gathered reflections from fellow theologians, popular authors, poets, and practitioners to mark both the range of Wilson's influence on the Christian church and the consistency of his prayer and work for God's kingdom to come here on earth as it is in heaven. Book excerpt: Sparks fly between an L.A. career woman and a former Army Ranger in this delightful enemies-to-lovers romance from the USA Today bestselling queen of small-town love stories. Welcome to Highland Falls, a small town where love is always in the air. In just a few months Abby Everhart has gone from being a top LA media influencer to an unemployed divorcée living out of her car. So inheriting her great-aunt's homestead comes at the perfect time. Abby heads to Highland Falls, North Carolina, to spruce up Honeysuckle Farm before putting it on the market for some much-needed cash. But instead of finding a charming getaway, she discovers a serious fixer-upper, complete with a leaky roof, overgrown yard, and a reclusive -- albeit sexy -- man living on the property. Ex-Delta Force soldier Hunter MacKenzie has faced war and loss, but nothing has quite prepared him for an outgoing redhead who's determined to turn his life upside down. Hunter doesn't want to get involved with anyone, especially a city girl who plans to sell the only place he's ever felt at home. But the sparks between them are undeniable. Spending time with Abby is easy. Convincing her to stay for good is another matter entirely.

Book excerpt: "I've been here before," says Riley Chance. "I mean way before. I never knew it until a few years ago—when I was fifteen. I had no idea until that time. We lived in Chicago, and I just believed I was like everyone else—except I did worry about things my mother thought were rather odd. "But that's not the beginning. I have to start at the beginning. "The first time I was here I lived in Pennsylvania with a man named Benjamin Ezra and his wife. I have never been able to remember her name, so I just made one up after a while. You can probably tell what I remember of her by the name I gave her: I call her Ogra." Thus begins Riley Chance's extraordinary tale of the fortunes and misfortunes of his three lives: first as Kenny Ezra, the son of a factory worker at the Demon Match Company in Wilkes-Barre at the turn of the century; then as Jack Pitt, a boy growing up with his much loved mother in Washington, D.C., during the Depression; and finally as Riley Chance, a "strange child" born in 1954 who, after a startling sequence of events when he is in his teens, can never again see himself simply as Gus and Myra Chance's son. Sometimes harrowing, sometimes funny, often luminously beautiful, and always profoundly imaginative and moving, The Lives of Riley Chance is the dazzlingly original work by the author whose first novel, On the Way Home, established him as an important and powerful voice in American fiction.

Book excerpt: What if you knew all the moments of my past that I am not proud of? What if you really knew me, the messy parts that I’ve hoped to forget and worked hard to conceal? For so long, my greatest fear was what you might think of me if you only knew the whole story. It’s exhausting, this guarding of our stories and struggles. Fear of being found out had caused me to hide—but I wasn’t just covering my flaws, I was unintentionally blocking the beauty of God’s grace. My journey to real freedom began when I quit running from my mess and started trusting Jesus to make something beautiful of it. This book is that story. It’s stepping out of shame and insecurity into gospel freedom. It’s letting God turn our failures and frailties into testimonies of His faithfulness. I’ve discovered that when we quit hiding, God gets the glory and we are able to fully embrace not only our relationship with Him, but also with one another. Transparency brings freedom, and in every moment, we'll find that God can absolutely be trusted.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hugh Walpole was praised for this 1921 novel for his distinctively vivid characters and London setting. It was greeted as a welcome departure for the popular writer, being, part satire and part fairy-tale. In this novel, Young Henry Trenchard and his sister Millicent are ready to confront a post WWI world torn by rapid change and defined by conflicts with an older generation (it was even happening back then) represented by Sir Charles Duncombe. This novel was written in the inter-war period of the 1920’s and is set in London. During this period long established social norms were rapidly being broken down. Young men came back from the war demanding employment and change, not the least the reduction of the drinking age from 21 to 18. Their stand was “if we can die for our country at 18, then surely we should be allowed to order a pint of beer!” In addition during the war years (1914 to 1918) women were employed in large numbers in factories and offices and proved they could hold their own “in a man’s environment.” With more disposable income, they demanded more freedom (from their Victorian and Edwardian parents) as well as greater independence, which led to a period known as the “Roaring Twenties”. This period gave rise to the “Flappers” and novelty dances like the Breakaway and Charleston being born. A decade of prosperity and freedom was ended with the Lindy Hop and, of course, the Wall Street Crash of 1929. ================ ABOUT THE AUTHOR SIR HUGH SEYMOUR WALPOLE, a 20th-century English novelist, had a large and varied output. Between 1909 and 1941 he wrote thirty-six novels, five volumes of short stories, two original plays and three volumes of memoirs. His range included disturbing studies of the macabre, children's stories and historical fiction, most notably his "Herries" series, set in the Lake District. ================ KEYWORDS/TAGS: Young Enchanted, Hugh Walpole, fiction, novel, fairy tale, satire, London setting, Edwardian, flapper, Charleston, craze, Scarlet Feather, Henry Trenchard, sister, Millicent, Millie, First Day, Three Friends, High Summer, Second Phase, Action, Adventure, Peter, Letters, Cauldron, In Love, Duncombe, First Brush, Enemy, Romance, Cladgate, Life, Death, Mrs. Trenchard, Perfection, Return, Courage, Growth, Knight Errant, Mrs. Tenssen, Mrs. Westcott, Death, Battle, Recover, Breath, Worse Off, Clare, Rescue, Unknown Warrior, Beginning, roaring twenties, first world war, WWI, lindy hop, wall street crash, Charleston,

After a series of coordinated nationwide terrorist attacks, the United States drifts into chaos. Police and other first responders scramble to keep control, but the divided and frustrated nation sinks lower as cities riot to the point that crime can’t be contained. What can Merrick do when law and order are a thing of the past? He must fight to keep those he cares about alive, but he cannot do it alone. “This story will disturb and inspire readers, and open their eyes to the world around us through the safety of a fictional character who seems so real.” Deirdra Eden, Best Selling Author of The Watchers Series.

Young Ada is troubled, prone to violent fits. Born “with one foot on the other side,” she begins to develop separate selves within her as she grows into adulthood. And when she travels to America for college, a traumatic event on campus crystallizes the selves into something powerful and potentially dangerous, making Ada fade into the background of her own mind as these alters—now protective, now hedonistic—move into control. Written with stylistic brilliance and based in the author’s realities, Freshwater dazzles with ferocious energy and serpentine grace.

Things haven't been going so well for fifteen-year-old Esther Armstrong. With her brother Max - her closest ally - absent, she's forced to face everything alone, not least her parents' heated arguments. As the summer holidays stretch endlessly ahead, she's desperate for something, anything, to divert her attention. Then she finds some letters hidden in the walls of her family home, sent by a soldier to his sweetheart from the trenches of WWI. Esther is consumed by the mystery of these lovers - not very much older than herself - and what became of them. Perhaps in piecing together the jigsaw of someone else's life, Esther can work out how to reassemble her own, and how to make everything fine again...
