Download or read book If You Have Something to Say, Margaret written by Marge Barrett and published by CW Books. This book was released on 2020-07-27 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If You Have Something to Say, Margaret reaches out with the heartfelt message: "-we will help each other love." These lyrical and prose poems reflect the cultural changes of Barrett's lifetime, from '50s bomb shelters, Russia and the Cold War to the current Museum of Broken Relationships in Croatia. Settings range from the poet's birthplace in a small southwestern Minnesota town, to her current homes on the banks of the St. Croix and Mississippi Rivers, to exotic destinations like the Choruh River in Turkey. The heart of her poetry holds her large family and many friends, students from years of teaching, even a few beloved dogs, while considering-sometimes tangentially-life choices, social justice, and how to spend our time on earth. Some poems touch us with tender humor: "Mean Mr. Van Maes, / you shot our mutt dog, but Luck / lived on, three-legged." In others, her plain language reverberates with poignant humanity: "I stand at his grave. Dad, I'm having trouble saying goodbye."
Download or read book Late Migrations written by Margaret Renkl and published by Milkweed Editions. This book was released on 2019-07-09 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the New York Times columnist, a portrait of a family and the cycles of joy and grief that mark the natural world: “Has the makings of an American classic.” —Ann Patchett Growing up in Alabama, Margaret Renkl was a devoted reader, an explorer of riverbeds and red-dirt roads, and a fiercely loved daughter. Here, in brief essays, she traces a tender and honest portrait of her complicated parents—her exuberant, creative mother; her steady, supportive father—and of the bittersweet moments that accompany a child’s transition to caregiver. And here, braided into the overall narrative, Renkl offers observations on the world surrounding her suburban Nashville home. Ringing with rapture and heartache, these essays convey the dignity of bluebirds and rat snakes, monarch butterflies and native bees. As these two threads haunt and harmonize with each other, Renkl suggests that there is astonishment to be found in common things: in what seems ordinary, in what we all share. For in both worlds—the natural one and our own—“the shadow side of love is always loss, and grief is only love’s own twin.” Gorgeously illustrated by the author’s brother, Billy Renkl, Late Migrations is an assured and memorable debut. “Magnificent . . . Readers will savor each page and the many gems of wisdom they contain.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)

Book Synopsis The effect of the economic downturn on the people in the West Midlands by : Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: West Midlands Regional Committee
Download or read book The effect of the economic downturn on the people in the West Midlands written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: West Midlands Regional Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2010-01-26 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is the Committee's second inquiry in the effect of the economic downturn on the people of the region. The Committee's terms of reference are: what problems exist and how their effect can be minimised in advance of an economic upturn; how effectively Government agencies and other regional bodies are addressing these problems; and what advice and assistance people need to help them live more sustainable lifestyles in the future. The Committee was particularly interested in the level of indebtedness and home repossessions; availability of appropriate training; the adequacy of assistance and social cohesion. The Committee is concerned that some of those areas most in need of additional Government assistance may not be aware of new funding available and do not have the capacity to bid for it. They understand that the Taskforce should not be seen as the answer to every problem in the region and that it was set up to focus on the initial economic impact of the downturn. However the Taskforce has reach within the region and uninhibited connection to Whitehall. It is also recognised that the region's third sector has not been as fully engaged as they had hoped.

Even the tragedy of seeing their beloved plantation on the St. John’s River, Hibernia, destroyed twice, and having sons and husband pitted against each other in war cannot break Margaret’s spirit or shake her faith. Her unconditional love, unflagging conviction in God, and contagious hope impact her descendants, a young state, and indeed a nation.
