Book Synopsis Don't Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table by : Louie Giglio
Download or read book Don't Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table written by Louie Giglio and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Louie Giglio helps you find encouragement, hope, and strength in the midst of any valley as you reject the enemy voices of fear, rage, lust, insecurity, anxiety, despair, temptation, or defeat. Scripture is clear: the Enemy is a liar who will stop at nothing to tempt you into poor decisions and self-defeating mindsets, making you feel afraid, angry, anxious, or defeated. It is all too easy for Satan to weasel his way into a seat at the table intended for only you and your King. But you can fight back. Don't Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table outlines the ways to overcome those lies so you can find peace and security in any challenging circumstance or situation. With the same bold, exciting approach to Scripture as employed in Goliath Must Fall and his other previous works, pastor Louie Giglio examines Psalm 23 in fresh ways, highlighting verse 5: "You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies." You can find freedom from insecurity, temptation, and defeat--if you allow Jesus, the Shepherd, to lead the battle for your mind and heart. This spiritual warfare book for those who are leery of spiritual warfare books will resonate with Louie's core Passion tribe as well as with Christians of all ages who want to live a triumphant life in God.

Book excerpt: Now a New York Times Bestseller As a college student he spent 16 days in the Pacific Ocean with five guys and a crate of canned meat. As a father he took his kids on a world tour to eat ice cream with heads of state. He made friends in Uganda, and they liked him so much he became the Ugandan consul. He pursued his wife for three years before she agreed to date him. His grades weren't good enough to get into law school, so he sat on a bench outside the Dean's office for seven days until they finally let him enroll. Bob Goff has become something of a legend, and his friends consider him the world's best-kept secret. Those same friends have long insisted he write a book. What follows are paradigm shifts, musings, and stories from one of the world's most delightfully engaging and winsome people. What fuels his impact? Love. But it's not the kind of love that stops at thoughts and feelings. Bob's love takes action. Bob believes Love Does. When Love Does, life gets interesting. Each day turns into a hilarious, whimsical, meaningful chance that makes faith simple and real. Each chapter is a story that forms a book, a life. And this is one life you don't want to miss. Light and fun, unique and profound, the lessons drawn from Bob's life and attitude just might inspire you to be secretly incredible, too. Endorsements: "If this book does not make your heart beat faster, book the next flight to Mayo Clinic " --Bill Hybels, Senior Pastor, Willow Creek Community Church, Chairman, Willow Creek Association "Bob Goff is a one-man tsunami of grace, a hurricane of love. He doesn't just talk about change, he really is change, as Love Does chronicles in such a vivid way. Yet, Love Does doesn't leave you feeling like you want to celebrate its author, it awakens a sense deep within that you, too, have an outrageous role to play in God's unfolding story or rescue and repair." --Louie Giglio, Passion Conferences/Passion City Church "An interesting and compelling story (with Young Life roots) that ends with a practical challenge and punch: 'love does' and God can use you to do it " --Denny Rydberg, President, Young Life "Every once in a while someone like Bob Goff shows up to remind us that some things matter a lot more than others. Love Does has a kind of 'north star' effect that will push you to refocus your life and energy on what is most significant. It doesn't just invite you to respond with your God-given potential, it invites you to become a part of what God can do beyond your potential." --Reggie Joiner, Founder and CEO of Orange "We liked the book a lot. Mostly, the balloons on the cover. The rest was pretty good too. Lots of stories about how God helps us." --Aedan, Asher and Skye Peterson ages 13, 12 and 9 "This may look like a book. It's not. Download or read book Free From Guilt written by Pat Simmons and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2012-09-20 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jamieson Family Legacy series follows the lives of the two Jamieson brothers in Boston, Kidd and Ace and their cousin Cameron from St. Louis. Kidd, the older brother, is struggling with anger and resentment issues toward his absentee father who never married his mother, but had the audacity to demand his illegitimate sons carry his last name Jamieson. Ace, on the other hand, is on a collision course with disaster as he shows how much a “chip off the old block” he is when it comes to women. Their highly educated MIT graduate cousin, Cameron Jamieson, is all about saving his family from self-destruction. Through genealogy research, Cameron’s mission is to show his cousins their worth as eleventh generation descendants of a royal African tribe and give them a choice: to be angry black men or accept the challenge to become strong successful black men. In Free From Guilt the third book in the Jamieson Legacy, Cameron, cousin to Kidd and Ace, has it all: the looks, money and tbrains. An MIT double degree graduate and lecturer, he is a genius. No amount of knowledge or wisdom however can convince him of the simplicity of God’s love and the gift of salvation. He believes it’s much more complicated than those men preaching from an outdated book lead others to believe. It’s simply going to take more to make a believer out of him. And, he’s not alone in this thinking. Beatrice “Tilley” Beacon, aka Grandma BB is a seventy-something, childless widow who is young at heart and full of life. Her antics are legendary among her surrogate family, the Jamiesons, her five hundred facebook fans and the local law enforcement, to whom she is known as the neighborhood one-woman militia crime task force. The Jamieson’s always thought they were a unified front to draw Grandma BB to Christ. But when Cameron, her surrogate grandson and the youngest of their clan, returns to spend time with the family in St. Louis, he immediately takes Grandma BB’s position that life is to be enjoyed to the fullest. There’s always time to repent …later.

Book Synopsis The Consecrated Cocoon by : Ann Thomas
Download or read book The Consecrated Cocoon written by Ann Thomas and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2012-03 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever paid attention to a picture of a caterpillar in a cocoon? Ever wondered what's going on inside as she's changing from a crawling, not so attractive creature to one that's beautiful and soars? I'll tell you what's happening? The same thing that occurs when God draws us into a lonely place of intimate isolation to prepare us for radical and life-transforming changes. The caterpillar's internal and external features are undergoing drastic changes. She loses everything that's no longer needed when she becomes a butterfly. Among many changes is the loss of her mouth and feet, while she gains more eyes. Hanging upside down in total surrender to the process; the old things are dying off to make room for the new. And so it is with you and me when God's about to transform us into the women we desire and were created to be. We must lose our mouth (not speak against what God is doing); our feet (remain in the process), and gain eyes to see things from God's perspective. The caterpillar's old cells represent our sin and unhealthy baggage that God must remove such as, bitterness, lack of self-worth, shame, pride, and unforgiveness. These must go to make room for what the butterfly needs to soar. We initially hate and even fight the process of retreating to our spiritual cocoon, only to find an intimacy, love, and power we never knew existed. Yes, God draws us into isolation, but once we stop kicking and screaming and surrender; we realize that we yearn to be with God as much as He desires to be with us. When God has His perfect way in the process, we emerge more powerful than we could have imagined, ready to pursue our God-given purpose and destiny.
Book Synopsis HOW TO USE GOD'S LIFETIME WARRANTY IN YOUR MARRIAGE by : Dr. Amos Adeniyi
Download or read book HOW TO USE GOD'S LIFETIME WARRANTY IN YOUR MARRIAGE written by Dr. Amos Adeniyi and published by Author House. This book was released on 2014-08-28 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea to write fictional letters to marital couples on how to use God's lifetime warranty on their marriages came into being in the process of a sermon preparation as a guest pastor for a local church in November 2011. I prayed about which message to deliver for many days. About two days before Sunday, I had a dream that a young lady participated during my sermon. After the sermon, her family greeted me well and said I made her speak in public for the first time and I gave her the encouragement that she needs for the rest of her life. Then I woke up. On the actual Sunday service, during the sermon, I asked the congregation how many of them had a dog or a cat. A young lady - a 17 year old said she had a cat. I asked if she ever took her cat for a walk, she said, "no." I asked, "why not?" She replied, "Nobody does!" Then I said people take their dogs for walks, but this does not mean that dogs are more important or better than cats. Cats have their own usefulness. God who created us knows that we are not the same and that we cannot function in the same way. One should not be boasting that s/he is better than the other. After the service, the grandfather of the cat owner who spoke during my sermon and her aunt came to me and thanked me for the opportunity given to the young lady to talk for the first time in public, which would enable her to express herself publicly. When I was praying at home after the sermon, I had the feeling that God wanted me to tell people to try out what seems to be unusual for them. It has been my concern for many years that many couples don't take their wedding vows seriously. It is affecting children a great deal; many children have two or three stepparents. Those children without stepparents seem to be the odd ones among their peers. In Canada, about 50% of first marriages may likely end up in divorce. One may presume that the rate of divorce in second marriages would be lower, but instead it is higher at 72% while, third marriages have the highest divorce rate of 85% (Comparative Annual Divorce Rate in Canada). Similarly, in America, the first marriage divorce rate ranges from 41 - 50%; second marriage divorce rate is between 60-67% and third marriage is between 73-74%. (Information on Divorce Rate and Statistics). This book is fictional. The stories are not real stories. They are about my past experiences with heterosexual couples in my counseling or pastoral care. I do not have a particular person or couple in mind. No names in the book are real names. If anybody's name or any couples have the same names as used in the book, I would like them to know that I am not telling their particular story or using them as an example. The Holy Spirit inspired the writers of the bible stories/instructions/messages and the same Holy Spirit is still talking to us today. I believe, I was inspired to write the book. I will encourage anyone or couple whose story or stories are similar to what's in the book not to be too critical but to take it (the book) as a means through which God is speaking to them to change. No marriage is too bad that God cannot change for better. Don't fold your arms and accept your troubled marriage as a done deal. I will advise the readers to call upon the author of marriage, God through Jesus Christ, to fix their marriages. He is able. Since the idea of letter writing is becoming obsolete, one may be wondering why letters to marital couples, and not email, text, or any other modern means of communication. Letter writing is an old form of communication, which is to inform, correct, and educate. In the New Testament, there are many letters written by Paul the apostle and others to individuals and churches to deal with issues, circumstances, and problems faced by the recipients. We never read about their responses or their initial letters to the Apostles. Similarly, only letters written to the couples are featured in this book. Most of the Letters in this book are long term correspondence with the imaginary couples. The objectives of the letters are to: 1). Encourage couples not to give up on their dream of having a successful marriage and to continue fighting until the victory is won. 2). Enable the counsellors/pastors to keep their counselees' hope alive as long as they are still interested in counselling. 3). Help families and friends to keep on supporting the couples in crises. Note that some of the letters end with prayer, while some didn't. The idea is we don't have to impose prayer on people. Praying with people is as important as praying for people in absentia. We need permission to pray with people, but we don't need permission to pray for people while they are not there. In both my pastoral and counselling ministries, the most prevalent issues are marriage and family matters. This book thus serves as a handbook to help couples in crises or prevent couples from getting into a marital mess. It can be used in marriage enrichment groups or as a counsellor/Pastor's handbook. The group Leaders, Counsellors or Pastors should not use the book as a weapon of judgment against anyone, but as a means of correction and education. The book is calling people who just want a family and not a marriage. Many couples lose love in their marriages. Love is the greatest gift God gives to people but many people do not accept it. They choose anger instead of peace or love from God. The book is calling the readers who are making wrong decisions for wrong reasons. We should not let bitterness, anger, frustration, alcohol, drugs, etc., ruin our marital relationships. The principles of marital solutions in the book focus on God. May God bless you as you read the it. Shalom!
