Book Synopsis The Return of the Magnificent Five by : Roy D Perkins
Download or read book The Return of the Magnificent Five written by Roy D Perkins and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2021-10-18 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of five talking dogs, all deceased. The story deals with how these five canines raise hell while they are alive by stealing food, wrecking stuff, chasing other animals, and skinny-dipping and then pulling the same shenanigans after they die. Four of the five dogs were abused by humans when they were alive. Now that they are dead, the tides have changed. The dogs are telling the humans what to do. In hell, the dogs become correction officers over the humans. In hell, the dogs come face-to-face with those humans who abused them. It’s bad enough for the humans to be hell’s prisoners; it’s much worse with the dogs being the prison wardens. In heaven, the Almighty assigns the dogs tasks to carry out on earth. They accomplish their tasks without regard to pride, ego, vanity, anger, prejudice, or greed. The dogs can’t be bought or conned by any of the humans they meet during their assignments. They carry out their assignments with total objectivity. The dogs will do anything that the Almighty tells them to do. They know that, during and after their assignments, there are banquets for pigging out, items to wreck, critters to chase, and heated swimming pools. Having immortal bodies, the thrill of being injured, killed, or captured and executed is not there anymore; however, the Almighty sometimes improvises for them. The main characters are five dogs: Runner, a greyhound, the philosopher; Danny, a greyhound, the spiritual leader; Vinney, a whippet, a risk-taking lunatic; Doggie, a treeing walker coonhound and cocker spaniel mix that will chase anything; and Peanut Butter, a puggle, who is naive with four months of college. This is a sequel to The Human World from a Canine Point of View.

Book excerpt: Hell hath no fury... Tarot reader Sara Wilde has spent her whole life finding the lost with the use of her trusty cards--from missing kids to shifty criminals to ancient, arcane artifacts. But when her newest assignment sends her straight to Hell, she discovers more than she bargained for. The journey through Dante's playground forces Sara to endure a client's bitter loss, fall victim to a vicious betrayal by her own kind, and come face-to-face with the woman she might have been--a soul capable of deep and relentless brutality. Not even Sara's blossoming love for the darkly sensual Magician is safe in the underworld. She's tested in ways she never fathomed, ways that could drive her mad or utterly destroy her. But time waits for no artifact hunter. Back in Vegas, the war on magic takes a fatal turn, with the worst of the dark practitioners focusing on all Sara holds dear. If she doesn't escape the bonds of the underworld, scores of psychics will die. To flee Hell for good, however, the final sacrifice Sara must make may be more than she can bear. Nothing's ever easy when you're Wicked And Wilde.

Book excerpt: On Labor Day, 1938, close to Breesvort Castle, the huge and legendary home of the spawling, tumultuous, and quarrelsome Breesvort family, whose forebears tore thousands of acres of the Hudson River Valley away from the Indians in the seventeenth century, a terrible crime takes place. A beautiful young woman is hunted down through the woods by night, slain with a knife, stripped, skinned like a doe, and hung by her heels from the tree like a flayed and butchered animal. Now thirty years later, as the Breesvort family gathers in the wake of a funeral for a family celebration, the unsolved murder continues to haunt them and may indeed be repeated, as the same cast of characters gathers once again.

In hard rock history, there is the time before Metallica and there is everything that has come since: metal, punk, industrial, grunge, alternative all of it absorbed, transformed, and reinvented by the band that, for decades, has ruled as both the Beatles and the Stones of heavy music. From garage rock to the avant-garde, indie pop to hardcore punk and, of course, all shades of metal, If You Like Metallica... illuminates the sounds and styles that influenced and have been influenced by this band, in addition to nonmusical elements such movies, books, and cultural iconoclasts. Just as Metallica expanded heavy metal to new meanings and new possibilities, If You Like Metallica... expands being a fan of the band to an education and a treasure hunt that, put as bluntly as a devil-fingered salute to the face, rocks.
