Book Synopsis Spatio-Temporal Modeling of Nonlinear Distributed Parameter Systems by : Han-Xiong Li
Download or read book Spatio-Temporal Modeling of Nonlinear Distributed Parameter Systems written by Han-Xiong Li and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-02-24 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this volume is to provide a brief review of the previous work on model reduction and identifi cation of distributed parameter systems (DPS), and develop new spatio-temporal models and their relevant identifi cation approaches. In this book, a systematic overview and classifi cation on the modeling of DPS is presented fi rst, which includes model reduction, parameter estimation and system identifi cation. Next, a class of block-oriented nonlinear systems in traditional lumped parameter systems (LPS) is extended to DPS, which results in the spatio-temporal Wiener and Hammerstein systems and their identifi cation methods. Then, the traditional Volterra model is extended to DPS, which results in the spatio-temporal Volterra model and its identification algorithm. All these methods are based on linear time/space separation. Sometimes, the nonlinear time/space separation can play a better role in modeling of very complex processes. Thus, a nonlinear time/space separation based neural modeling is also presented for a class of DPS with more complicated dynamics. Finally, all these modeling approaches are successfully applied to industrial thermal processes, including a catalytic rod, a packed-bed reactor and a snap curing oven. The work is presented giving a unifi ed view from time/space separation. The book also illustrates applications to thermal processes in the electronics packaging and chemical industry. This volume assumes a basic knowledge about distributed parameter systems, system modeling and identifi cation. It is intended for researchers, graduate students and engineers interested in distributed parameter systems, nonlinear systems, and process modeling and control.

Book Synopsis Modeling and Analysis of Linear Hyperbolic Systems of Balance Laws by : Krzysztof Bartecki
Download or read book Modeling and Analysis of Linear Hyperbolic Systems of Balance Laws written by Krzysztof Bartecki and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-21 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph focuses on the mathematical modeling of distributed parameter systems in which mass/energy transport or wave propagation phenomena occur and which are described by partial differential equations of hyperbolic type. The case of linear (or linearized) 2 x 2 hyperbolic systems of balance laws is considered, i.e., systems described by two coupled linear partial differential equations with two variables representing physical quantities, depending on both time and one-dimensional spatial variable. Based on practical examples of a double-pipe heat exchanger and a transportation pipeline, two typical configurations of boundary input signals are analyzed: collocated, wherein both signals affect the system at the same spatial point, and anti-collocated, in which the input signals are applied to the two different end points of the system. The results of this book emerge from the practical experience of the author gained during his studies conducted in the experimental installation of a heat exchange center as well as from his research experience in the field of mathematical and computer modeling of dynamic systems. The book presents valuable results concerning their state-space, transfer function and time-domain representations, which can be useful both for the open-loop analysis as well as for the closed-loop design. The book is primarily intended to help professionals as well as undergraduate and postgraduate students involved in modeling and automatic control of dynamic systems.
Book Synopsis Identification of Continuous-Time Systems by : N.K. Sinha
Download or read book Identification of Continuous-Time Systems written by N.K. Sinha and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 641 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In view of the importance of system identification, the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) and the International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS) hold symposia on this topic every three years. Interest in continuous time approaches to system identification has been growing in recent years. This is evident from the fact that the of invited sessions on continuous time systems has increased from one in the 8th number Symposium that was held in Beijing in 1988 to three in the 9th Symposium in Budapest in 1991. It was during the 8th Symposium in August 1988 that the idea of bringing together important results on the topic of Identification of continuous time systems was conceived. Several distinguished colleagues, who were with us in Beijing at that time, encouraged us by promising on the spot to contribute to a comprehensive volume of collective work. Subsequently, we contacted colleagues all over the world, known for their work in this area, with a formal request to contribute to the proposed volume. The response was prompt and overwhelmingly encouraging. We sincerely thank all the authors for their valuable contributions covering various aspects of identification of continuous time systems.

Book Synopsis Nonlinear and Robust Control of PDE Systems by : Panagiotis D. Christofides

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interest in control of nonlinear partial differential equation (PDE) sys tems has been triggered by the need to achieve tight distributed control of transport-reaction processes that exhibit highly nonlinear behavior and strong spatial variations. Drawing from recent advances in dynamics of PDE systems and nonlinear control theory, control of nonlinear PDEs has evolved into a very active research area of systems and control. This book the first of its kind- presents general methods for the synthesis of nonlinear and robust feedback controllers for broad classes of nonlinear PDE sys tems and illustrates their applications to transport-reaction processes of industrial interest. Specifically, our attention focuses on quasi-linear hyperbolic and parabolic PDE systems for which the manipulated inputs and measured and controlled outputs are distributed in space and bounded. We use geometric and Lyapunov-based control techniques to synthesize nonlinear and robust controllers that use a finite number of measurement sensors and control actuators to achieve stabilization of the closed-loop system, output track ing, and attenuation of the effect of model uncertainty. The controllers are successfully applied to numerous convection-reaction and diffusion-reaction processes, including a rapid thermal chemical vapor deposition reactor and a Czochralski crystal growth process. The book includes comparisons of the proposed nonlinear and robust control methods with other approaches and discussions of practical implementation issues.

Book Synopsis Nonlinear Dynamics, Chaotic and Complex Systems by : Eryk Infeld
Download or read book Nonlinear Dynamics, Chaotic and Complex Systems written by Eryk Infeld and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997-06-19 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The physics and mathematics of nonlinear dynamics, chaotic and complex systems constitute some of the most fascinating developments of late twentieth century science. It turns out that chaotic bahaviour can be understood, and even utilized, to a far greater degree than had been suspected. Surprisingly, universal constants have been discovered. The implications have changed our understanding of important phenomena in physics, biology, chemistry, economics, medicine and numerous other fields of human endeavor. In this book, two dozen scientists and mathematicians who were deeply involved in the "nonlinear revolution" cover most of the basic aspects of the field.
