Book Synopsis Patrimonio e Identidad by : Gilberto N. Ayes Ametller
Download or read book Patrimonio e Identidad written by Gilberto N. Ayes Ametller and published by Nuevo Milenio. This book was released on 2020 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Identidad y Patrimonio by : Daniel Muriel

Book Synopsis Becoming Heritage by : Maria Fernanda Escallón
Download or read book Becoming Heritage written by Maria Fernanda Escallón and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2023-04-13 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the late twentieth century, multicultural reforms to benefit minorities have swept through Latin America, however, in Colombia ethno-racial inequality remains rife. Becoming Heritage evaluates how heritage policies affected the Afro-Colombian community of San Basilio de Palenque after it was proclaimed by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2005. Although the designation partially delivered on its promise of multicultural inclusion, it also created ethno-racial exclusion and conflict among groups within the Palenquero community. The new forms of power, knowledge, skills and values created to safeguard heritage exacerbated political, social, symbolic and economic inequalities among Palenqueros, and did little to ameliorate the harsh realities of living and dying in Palenque. Bringing together broader discussions on race, nation and inclusion in Colombia, Becoming Heritage reveals that inequality in Palenque is not only a result of Black Colombians' uneven access to resources; it is enforced through heritage politics, expertise and governance.

Book Synopsis Los límites del patrimonio cultural by : José Castillo Ruiz
Download or read book Los límites del patrimonio cultural written by José Castillo Ruiz and published by Ediciones Cátedra. This book was released on 2022-02-10 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Pure Space written by Elisa Silva and published by Actar D, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-08-11 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book may seem a simple accumulation of twenty-one public space projects in eight Latin American cities. On closer inspection, the presentation of project descriptions, photographs, and annotated drawings reflects a concern to analytically explain the operative aspects at work. The publication is not intended to serve only as a catalogue, guide, or manual on how to produce public space in spontaneous settlements. Rather, it goes beyond the aims of an index of best practices. It is intended, instead, as an empirical base for a critical and theoretical engagement with the problematic of development, social inclusion, public investment, (in)formal settlement, civil society and the public sphere. The publication achieves its final function at this third level, by providing a compelling argument to expand the agency of architects and urban designers and creatively find ways of justifying, financing, and building public spaces in communities —spaces that have a catalytic effectiveness in achieving significant urban and social transformation. This book was awarded by a Graham Foundation Grant and CAF Development Bank of Latin America. Book Synopsis Mapping a New Museum by : Laura Osorio Sunnucks
Download or read book Mapping a New Museum written by Laura Osorio Sunnucks and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-20 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mapping a New Museum seeks to rethink the museum’s role in today’s politically conscious world. Presenting a selection of innovative projects that have taken place in Latin America over the last year, the book begins to map out possibilities for the future of the global museum. The projects featured within the pages of this book were all supported by The Santo Domingo Centre of Excellence for Latin American Research (SDCELAR) at the British Museum (BM), with the aim of making the BM’s Latin American collections meaningful to communities in the region and others worldwide. These projects illustrate how communities manage cultural heritage and, taken together, they suggest that there is also no all-encompassing counter-narrative that can be used to "decolonise" museums. Reflecting on, and experimenting with, the ways that research happens within museum collections, the interdisciplinary collaborations described within these pages have used collections to tell stories that destabilise societal assumptions, whilst also proactively seeking out that which has historically been overlooked. The result is, the book argues, a research environment that challenges intellectual orthodoxy and values critical and alternative forms of knowledge. Mapping a New Museum contains English and Spanish versions of every chapter, which enables the book to put critical stress on the self-referentiality of Anglophone literature in the field of museum anthropology. The book will be essential reading for students, scholars and museum practitioners working around the world.
