It primarily covers the genera Acrocephalus, Locustella, Cettia and Bradypterus, together with a few smaller related genera. To the uninitiated, these are the archetypal 'little brown jobs' and as if they weren't hard enough to identify anyway, many of them are hard to see as well! This authoritative handbook covers their identification in breathtaking detail, illustrated with line drawings, sonograms, wonderful colour plates and photographs. It is destined to become the ultimate reference for these challenging birds.

Book Synopsis Primary Science Curriculum Guide by : John Stringer
Download or read book Primary Science Curriculum Guide written by John Stringer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide provides trainee teachers with an insight into the nature and teaching of primary science. It aims to introduce you to the ways in which children learn science, and to the science itself. Each Unit can be studied independently or used to support/prepare for school experiences. You will be directed towards additional reading, which will develop or confirm the subject knowledge you will need to achieve QTS. the curriculum guide is up-to-date, revised to take account of Curriculum 2000 and accepted 'good practice' in primary science teaching and learning. It is also flexible - many of the Units are stand-alone. They can be undertaken in any order, at your own pace, to complement school experiences. The Units are practical and feasible: the activities suggested can be undertaken by the non-specialist; in many cases without specialized equipment or access to large numbers of pupils. The guide is comprehensive, covering all the primary science elements in Curriculum 2000 and giving background information into other aspects of primary science teaching. It is also supportive - the guide suggests further texts to support trainees' own understanding of the scientific and pedagogical concepts involved. Additional reading draws on the TTA's list of approved key texts. The original text was piloted by students following a distance-learning PGCE course. It has been revised and updated in line with their comments and to meet Curriculum 2000 and Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage. The text was initially developed as a core text for the part-time distance-learning course at Liverpool Hope and is designed for trainee teachers on distance learning and flexible routes, returning, converting or overseas teachers.
Book Synopsis Daily Giving Service by : Moira M. W. Chan-Yeung
Download or read book Daily Giving Service written by Moira M. W. Chan-Yeung and published by Hong Kong University Press. This book was released on 2022-11-11 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Daily Giving Service: A History of the Diocesan Girls’ School, Hong Kong, Moira M. W. Chan-Yeung and her fellow contributors present a comprehensive history of one of Hong Kong’s oldest girls’ schools. As an alumna of the school, Chan-Yeung traces the history of her alma mater from its establishment in 1860, its development over the last 150 years until the recent decade. Having experienced stability and turbulences in Hong Kong in the twentieth century, the school has become one of the most prominent girl’s schools in the city. In several chapters written by other alumni, various aspects of school life of different eras are reconstructed and remembered. The author and other contributors focused on the postwar era in which Hong Kong grew from a small city to a global metropolitan. The expansion of the Diocesan Girls’ School largely followed this trend. The history of the school has also long been connected with the socio-economic development of Hong Kong society, sharing its happiness and sadness. “This book is likely to become the gold standard against which all future school histories in Hong Kong are judged. Comprehensive, insightful, and full of fascinating anecdote, the inspiring story of DGS is told both chronologically in Moira Chan’s main text and thematically in the specialist chapters contributed by her co-authors. This is a school history that tells us much about the larger story of education in Hong Kong while focusing on a single educational institution.” —Peter Cunich, Director, Centenary History Project, The University of Hong Kong “The history of DGS reinforces my observation that Hong Kong schools form an unusual system that combines the best of East and West in the philosophy and practice of education. The younger schools in Hong Kong that mushroomed later were basically modelled after schools such as DGS. That accounts for the excellence envied by many.” —Cheng Kai-ming, SBS, JP, Professor Emeritus, The University of Hong Kong “The history of DGS reveals how the path taken by the school over the years reflects the very qualities that define a person. DGS, like our home Hong Kong, has witnessed in equal measure challenges, disasters, and triumphs, and has dealt with them with equanimity. Dignity, respect, tolerance, courage, fairness, honesty, and of course excellence—underpinned by pastoral care—represent those essential qualities that have had to be called upon. As we now know, they have become the minimum tools expected of her students to realise fully their true potential in life and properly contribute to our community. This is their story.” —The Honourable Mr Geoffrey Ma Tao-li, GBM, Former Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal (2010–2021)
Book Synopsis Information Communication Technology and Economic Development by : Tojo Joseph Thatchenkery
Download or read book Information Communication Technology and Economic Development written by Tojo Joseph Thatchenkery and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information Communication Technology and Economic Development provides a quick and broad overview of the Indian ICT sector. With its exhaustive examination of the business management and industrial organisation of the ICT sector, it is a particularly useful tool for any researcher or policy analyst interested in a thorough analysis of the mechanics of the sector and the Indian context within which it operates. Syud Amer Ahmed, Papers in Regional Science India has become a highly visible participant in the information communication technology (ICT) industry. Since the 1990s, it has been one of the fastest growing economies in the world, emerging as the most watched test of global capitalism. The contributors to this volume examine how the ICT-driven development of India appears to have skipped the middle stages of the traditional economic development models and leapfrogged directly to the final stage whereby growth is mostly technologically driven. Information Communication Technology and Economic Development reveals new insights regarding the complex process of globalization. It shows how the generation and circulation of intellectual capital in the US and India in ICT have led to greater productivity in the US while facilitating the economic development of India. Most industrialized nations now see the vast intellectual capital-based services that India provides at extremely competitive rates as key to their own national competitiveness in the global arena. The contributors findings suggest that India s ICT-led growth will accelerate in the next ten years, launching India as a major global economic power next to the US and China. This provocative and timely volume will be a necessary read for students and scholars of international business, public policy, economic development, management and strategy as well as all those interested in the impact of globalization on national and regional economies.
