Book Synopsis Jesusüberlieferung und Christologie by : Gerhard Schneider
Download or read book Jesusüberlieferung und Christologie written by Gerhard Schneider and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-04-09 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Nomos and Violence written by Viktor Ber and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2018-07-21 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume is concerned with the problem of violence as reflected in the biblical texts, in their reception and interpretation. The expression `nomos' in the title of the book is understood in a broader sense, with reference to the concept of nomos as a `world of right and wrong' (Robert Cover). Therefore, the authors of the book are concerned not only with the legal texts of the Pentateuch, but also with other parts of the Old Testament / Tanak. Most of the contributors explore the theme of violence by interpreting specific narrative, legal, prophetic, and sapiential passages. Others attempt to offer a more general theological evaluation of violence in the Bible, also with constant reference to the biblical texts.
Book Synopsis The Concept of Peace in Judaism, Christianity and Islam by : Georges Tamer
Download or read book The Concept of Peace in Judaism, Christianity and Islam written by Georges Tamer and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2020-10-26 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The eighth volume of the series "Key Concepts of Interreligious Discourses" investigates the roots of the concept of "peace" in Judaism, Christianity and Islam and its relevance for the present time. Facing present violent conflicts waged and justified by religious ideas or reasons, peace building prevails in current debates about religion and peace. Here the central question is: How may traditional sources in religions help to put down the weapons and create a society in which everyone can live safely without hostilities and the threat of violence? When we take the Sacred Scriptures of Judaism, Christianity and Islam into consideration it becomes obvious that the term "peace" and its equivalents in Hebrew, Greek and Arabic describe, at first, an ideal state based on the "love" / "mercy" of God to his creation. It is a divine gift that brings inward peace to the individuum and outer peace resting upon justice and equality. One main task of Jews, Christian and Muslims in the history is to find out how to bring down this transcendent ideal upon earth. The volume presents the concept of "peace" in its different aspects as anchored in the traditions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. It unfolds commonalities and differences between the three monotheistic religions as well as the manifold discourses about peace within these three traditions. The book offers fundamental knowledge about the specific understanding of peace in each one of these traditions, their interdependencies and their relationship to secular world views.

Book Synopsis Jesus und die Evangelien by : Martin Hengel
Download or read book Jesus und die Evangelien written by Martin Hengel and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2007 with total page 734 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: English summary: The fifth volume of Martin Hengel's Selected Writings contains 27 studies which concern Jesus as a person, his works and the four Gospels. These studies were written over a period of 55 years. They focus on the historical Jesus and also deal with the trends in the Gospels and the circumstances surrounding their origins. The studies evolved primarily from lectures given by the author and thus reflect a part of his scholarly development, his arguments and his interests. At the same time they show that the way he deals with philology and history, the question concerning the truth of the Gospel and his opinions of contemporary issues cannot be separated from the author's theological existence, and that it is this interaction which makes his exegetical and theological work so productive.
