Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A virtually unknown spaniel breed that has been around for over 150 years, the Clumber Spaniel achieved a moment of modern-day fame when “”Brady” won Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show in 1996. When that handsome dog smiled into the TV cameras, many Americans got their first glimpse of this charming companion dog. Named for the Duke of Newcastle’s Clumber Park estate in Nottinghamshire, England, the Clumber Spaniel is prized not only for his skill and acumen as a hunting dog but for his clownlike antics and bubbling personality. Breeder Ricky Blackman has written an excellent introduction to the breed in this Comprehensive Owner’s Guide that retraces the breed’s history in England and America, describes the breed’s many unique characteristics (both physical and personality), and offers potential owners sensible advice about the selection, care, and training of a Clumber Spaniel. New owners will welcome the well-prepared chapter on finding a reputable breeder and selecting a healthy, sound puppy. Chapters on puppy-proofing the home and yard, purchasing the right supplies for the puppy as well as house-training, feeding, and grooming are illustrated with photographs of handsome adults and puppies. In all, there are over 135 full-color photographs in this useful and reliable volume. The author’s advice on obedience training will help the reader better mold and train into the most well-mannered dog in the neighborhood. The extensive and lavishly illustrated chapter on healthcare provides up-to-date detailed information on selecting a qualified veterinarian, vaccinations, preventing and dealing with parasites, infectious diseases, and more. Sidebars throughout the text offer helpful hints, covering topics as diverse as historical dogs, breeders, or kennels, toxic plants, first aid, crate training, carsickness, fussy eaters, and parasite control. Fully indexed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amid the tumultuous landscape of early 20th-century literature, a voice emerged that would forever alter the contours of modern fiction. This collection of intimate diaries offers an unprecedented glimpse into the mind of one of the greatest literary figures of her time. Spanning over three decades, these journals reveal Virginia Woolf's innermost thoughts, struggles, and triumphs, providing an intimate counterpoint to her well-known novels. Readers are invited to witness the raw, unfiltered emotions that fueled Woolf's groundbreaking works, from the initial spark of inspiration to the painstaking process of creation. Her reflections on the cultural and political upheavals of her era, her candid observations on fellow writers, and her deeply personal battles with mental illness paint a vivid portrait of a woman driven by an insatiable quest for artistic perfection and personal truth. This edition collects all five volumes of Woolf’s published diaries, spanning from 1915 to 1941. VIRGINIA WOOLF [1882–1941] was an English author. With novels like Jacob’s Room [1922], Mrs Dalloway [1925], To the Lighthouse [1927], and Orlando [1928], she became a leading figure of modernism and is considered one of the most important English-language authors of the 20th century. As a thinker, with essays like A Room of One’s Own [1929], Woolf has influenced the women’s movement in many countries.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The biggest of all spaniels, the Clumber Spaniel is a canine fit for a ruler. Also, to be sure, a large part of the variety's initial history bases on French and British respectability. Reproduced to be a gundog that represents considerable authority in hunting in weighty cover, the Clumber Spaniel has the long, delicate coat normal for all spaniels. Most Clumbers are white in shading, while a few examples show brown, lemon or orange markings. It is reasonably intensely fabricated canine with substantial bone construction and a gigantic head. This enormous gag empowers the Clumber Spaniel to recover a wide range of game. The Clumbers have 'liquefying' heads and their faces take on a sluggish, sorrowful demeanor. Albeit not quite so quick as most different types of spaniels, the Clumber has incredible endurance and can jog along at a sluggish walk for a really long time. It is additionally an exceptionally smart canine equipped for autonomous reasoning. These attributes make it a magnificent hunting canine; an assignment the variety was utilized for noticeably among the British nobility. They are likewise delicate and adoring and make superb pets too.

Book excerpt: The Clumber Spaniel is a breed of dog, within the spaniel typing, that originates from the United Kingdom. The breed's name is derived from 'Clumber Park' which is located in Nottinghamshire and is where the breed was first developed. The Clumber Spaniel is actually the largest breed of dog within the spaniel typing. The breed was originally developed as a gundog that specializes in hunting in areas of heavy coverage. There are two different theories about the breed heritage. The first theory suggests that the Clumber Spaniel was developed by breeding the now extinct Alpine Spaniel with Basset Hounds and Pyrenean Mountain dogs. The second theory suggests that the Clumber Spaniel was developed by breeding King Charles Spaniels with other gundog breeds - the King Charles Spaniel was originally much larger than it is in modern times. The breed was originally restricted to being bred by nobility, but during World War 1 the Clumber Spaniel's numbers dwindle which lead to kennels taking an interest in preserving the breed. Despite the efforts to increase the breed's numbers, the Clumber Spaniel is still considered a vulnerable breed in the UK - which means that under 300 new Clumber Spaniel are registered each year. The Clumber Spaniel has a large heavy bone structure, a large head, large vine-leaf shaped ears and a freckled muzzle. The breed predominantly has a white, lemon, orange or brown coat colorations and there are normally spots of other common coat colorations around their muzzle and body. The Clumber Spaniel has a dense coat with the top half being short and the bottom half being a lot longer. As a whole the Clumber Spaniel is known to be a gentle, loyal and affectionate breed. They are also known to be a very 'sleepy' breed and spend a lot of time relaxing, eating or sleeping. Before purchasing any pet it is important to understand that as a pet owner you are responsible for the care and wellbeing of your pet. It is important to try and learn as much as you can about the animal you are considering to keep as a pet to make sure that your lifestyle, household and financial status are suited to provide your pet with the best possible care.
