Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to the small town of Elm Ridge, Kentucky, where you’ll swoon, smile, and fall helplessly in love with the Green family. These three heartwarming romances have no cliffhangers and no cheating. - COLTON She's all wrong for him. So why can't he stop thinking about her? Colton Green knows exactly what he's going to do with his life. He’ll run the Red Widow Bourbon factory—a business that’s been in his family for generations—build a beautiful home, marry a nice country girl, and start a family. Then he meets Grace Baker, and all his plans go out the window. She's the last woman he should want: a big-city lawyer who's accepted a case against his best friend. There's no reason to think she plans to stay in Elm Ridge, let alone that she wants to settle down with the likes of him. Still, he's drawn to her like he's never been to anyone. Grace Baker is trying to put her life back together after the disastrous end of her marriage. She needs to heal, not fall headlong into a new relationship. Colton may be easy on the eyes, but the last thing she's looking for is romance. Besides, Grace knows she's a bad bet all around. A close-knit family like the Greens is something she's never experienced, and she doesn't belong in their world ... no matter how much it makes her heart yearn. Can Colton put aside his preconceptions for the woman who just might be perfect for him? And can Grace let herself believe she's worthy of real love? JAXON She's his little sister's best friend. Completely off limits. And now they're working together. Jaxon Green's plans to offer a summer camp for kids at his thoroughbred training facility get derailed when his cook walks out a few days before camp begins. There's only one person available to help on such short notice: Willow Daniels, his little sister's college roommate and best friend. The problem is, Jaxon's feelings for Willow are anything but brotherly. How is he supposed to resist her, when they're going to be working side by side for weeks? Willow Daniels loves the Green family -- all of them. They've always been so kind to her. No one, not even her best friend Sophia, knows that Jaxon is Willow's secret crush, the only man who makes her heart beat faster. She has to keep him in the friend zone, or risk losing the Greens' esteem. Will a rival for Willow's attention force Jaxon to make a move? And if he does, will Willow let him into her heart? BRAXTON He can't help falling for her ... but that doesn't mean he can trust her. If there is such a thing as love at first sight, that's what Braxton Green feels the first time he lays eyes on Taylor Aaronson. Too bad her arrival in Elm Ridge sets off so many alarm bells. Etta, Taylor's grandmother, has been all alone since her husband died. As her neighbor, Braxton feels compelled to protect the elderly woman from anyone who would take advantage ... even her beautiful, charming, long-lost granddaughter. Taylor Aaronson never got the chance to know her father, so she's thankful that her grandma Etta welcomes her with open arms. So does most of the town ... except for Braxton Green. She can't deny the attraction that flares every time the handsome veterinarian is around, even as she wonders why he's gotten so cozy with her grandmother. The news that he's offered to buy Etta’s best mare only deepens Taylor's suspicions. Can the two people who care the most about Etta's well-being put aside their mutual distrust long enough to see the truth about each other? - - - - - - - - - - Fans of: small town romance, 7 brides for 7 brothers, cowboys romance, dog lovers, horse lovers, Chris Keniston, Jodi Thomas, Emily March and the Eternity Springs series, the Carsons of mustang creek, cedar cove novels, Debbie Macomber, Linda Lael Miller, sweet contemporary romance, clean and wholesome romance, Rancher romance, western stories, family sagas, romance series will love the Kentucky Green series clean and wholesome, family story, rural romance, Sweet romance, small town, family saga, kentucky, very shy girl moves into small town, family values,

This book was released on 2014-10-17 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kentucky and Kentuckians are full of stories, which may be why so many present-day writers have Kentucky roots. Whether they left and returned, like Wendell Berry and Bobbie Ann Mason, or adopted Kentucky as home, like James Still and Jim Wayne Miller, or grew up and left for good, like Michael Dorris and Barbara Kingsolver, they have one connection: Kentucky has influenced their writing and their lives. L. Elisabeth Beattie explores this influence in twenty intimate interviews. Conversations with Kentucky Writers was more than three years in the making, as Beattie traveled across the state and beyond to capture oral histories on tape. Her exhaustive knowledge of these authors helped her draw out personal revelations about their work, their lives, and the nature of writing. When Still concludes his interview with "I believe I've told you more than anybody," he could be speaking for any of Beattie's subjects. Aspiring writers will learn that Mason submitted twenty stories to the New Yorker before one was accepted, and that Still wrote articles for Sunday school magazines. There's plenty of advice: Dorris tells budding authors to get real jobs, keep journals, and read everything, even cereal boxes, and Marsha Norman reminds playwrights that "it is not the business of the theater to provide writers with a living." Kingsolver advises, "Read good stuff and write bad stuff until eventually what you're writing begins to approximate what you're reading." Beattie's collection includes striking self-portraits of such writers as Sue Grafton, Leon Driskell, James Baker Hall, Fenton Johnson, George Ella Lyon, Taylor McCafferty, Ed McClanahan, Sena Naslund, Chris Offutt, Lee Pennington, and Betty Layman Receveur. What most distinguishes these moving conversations from other author interviews is their focus on creativity, on the teaching of writing, and on the authors' strong sense of place. As Wade Hall writes in his foreword, all twenty writers recognize that their works have been significantly influenced by their "Kentucky experience." This collection offers insights into Kentucky's rich and flowering literary heritage.

Book excerpt: In this multilayered historical novel that explores family secrets and hidden identities, “Woods skillfully captures the disorienting mixture of heady freedom and mounting fear characterizing 1930s Berlin, and the political and gender issues she raises add contemporary relevancy” (Publishers Weekly). Berlin, 1931: Sisters raised in a Catholic orphanage, Berni and Grete Metzger are each other's whole world. That is, until life propels them to opposite sides of seedy, splendid, and violent Weimar Berlin. Berni becomes a cigarette girl, a denizen of the cabaret scene alongside her transgender best friend, who is considering a risky gender reassignment surgery. Meanwhile Grete is hired as a maid to a Nazi family, and begins to form a complicated bond with their son. As Germany barrels toward the Third Reich and ruin, one of the sisters must make a devastating choice. South Carolina, 1970: With the recent death of her father, Janeen Moore yearns to know more about her family history, especially the closely guarded story of her mother's youth in Germany. One day she intercepts a letter intended for her mother: a confession written by a German woman, a plea for forgiveness. What role does Janeen's mother play in this story, and why does she seem so distressed by recent news that a former SS officer has resurfaced in America? Fräulein M. abounds with hidden identities and family secrets. With its multilayered exploration of family ties, hard choices, and the weight of history in our lives, the novel shines light on a brilliant new voice.

This book was released on 2014-10-17 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this sequel to Conversations with Kentucky Writers, L. Elisabeth Beattie brings together in-depth interviews with sixteen of the state's premiere wordsmiths. This new volume offers the perspectives of poets, journalists, and scholars as they discuss their views on creativity, the teaching of writing, and the importance of Kentucky in their work. They talk frankly about how and why they do what they do. The writers speak for themselves, and their thoughts come alive on the page. Beattie's interviews reveal the allegiances and alliances among Kentucky writers that have shaped literary trends by bringing together people with shared interests, values, subjects, and styles. The interviewees include authors who are captivated in other writers and in what they have to say about the process and craft of writing; educators who are interested in Kentucky writers and what their work reveals about the nature of creativity; and historians who are concerned with Kentucky's literary and cultural heritage. The interviews reveal patterns in Kentucky literature from mid-century to the millennium, as authors talk about how their sense of place has changed over the decades and reveal the ways in which the roots of Kentucky writing have produced a literary flowering at the century's end. Includes: Sallie Bingham, Joy Bale Boone, Thomas D. Clark, John Egerton, Sarah Gorham, Lynwood Montell, Maureen Morehead, John Ed Pearce, Ameilia Blossom Pegram, Karen Robards, Jeffrey Skinner, Frederick Smock, Frank Steele, Martha Bennett Stiles, Richard Taylor, and Michael Williams.

Ruthie’s plight will intrigue readers, and her powerful story of strength and resilience, full of color, light, and poignancy, will stay with them for a long time. Ruthie Mizrahi and her family recently emigrated from Castro’s Cuba to New York City. Just when she’s finally beginning to gain confidence in her mastery of English—and enjoying her reign as her neighborhood’s hopscotch queen—a horrific car accident leaves her in a body cast and confined her to her bed for a long recovery. As Ruthie’s world shrinks because of her inability to move, her powers of observation and her heart grow larger and she comes to understand how fragile life is, how vulnerable we all are as human beings, and how friends, neighbors, and the power of the arts can sweeten even the worst of times.

Living beyond the Dream offers an inside look into Polsons life as he describes that dream to play basketball for his beloved Wildcats. This memoir narrates the lows and highs and speaks to the lessons Polson learned throughout college. In a world of talent and fame, he understands the choices one makes are more important than the gifts one has been given. Praise for Living beyond the Dream Jarrod Polson is Kentucky basketball. [He] turned down scholarships to other Division 1 schools to live out his dream of playing for the Wildcats. He was given little chance of playing But not only did he play, he was an integral part of UKs 2012 National Championship. To me there is something more important. Jarrod Polson lives what he believes. Cameron Mills Following UKs miraculous run in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, Jarrod Polson and I were given the opportunity to visit thousands of school kids throughout Kentucky. Those kids saw that a UK National Champion who got to live his dream can be humble, patient, and kind and still be a champion. You will love getting to know him and Him through Polsons book Living beyond the Dream. Jeff Sheppard In my time here at Kentucky, Ive been fortunate to have been around some of the strongest character kids in the country. JP is at the top of that list, his faith in how he lives his life, his dedication to team and winning spirit made it fun and a joy to coach. He will always be one of my favorite wildcats.
