Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Osteopathic Technic A brief summary of the principles of Osteopathy so far as they relate to the matter to be discussed in this book is a fitting introduction to it. Osteopathy rests on a very sure foundation. Its philosophy rests on axioms; its practice on facts; its profession and its history on success. The axioms on which its philosophy is founded are: I. Everything composed of mechanical parts is subject to disorder among those parts. From this axiom there is no appeal. There is no exception to it. The solar system is not an exception, the eye of the beetle is not an exception, and the human body is not an exception. A corollary of this axiom is that the greater the number of parts, the more frequent should be disorder or lesion among them; and there are a great many different parts to the human body. II. If anything depends on the order, then that thing will be deranged by the disorder. In the human body, function and health depend on the order; and disease arises from the disorder. There is no appeal from this axiom, for the laws of mechanics are fundamental wherever they apply. These are the two fundamental axioms on which the science is based. But let us go further with the matter. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Synopsis Principles of Osteopathy (Classic Reprint) by : Charles Hazzard
Download or read book Principles of Osteopathy (Classic Reprint) written by Charles Hazzard and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-06 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Osteopathy Since the first appearance of this work, the course of lectures of which the first edition was composed, has been increased in number to forty-four. The first edition contained discussions of theory, together with a review of the human body, part by part, with indications for Osteopathic examination and treatment of the same. The second edition contains in addition, lectures upon specific diseases, with descriptions of the Osteopathic method of examination and treatment of the same. A limited number of cases has been thus treated, the idea being not to make this volume a Practice of Osteopathy, but to show the method employed in diagnosis and treatment of the several different classes of cases that the Osteopath meets in daily practice. For example: acute conditions, such as typhoid fever, diarrh a, and the like, and on the other hand, chronic affections, such as spinal curvatures, constipation and other complaints of. a similar nature, have be.en dealt with. To this there have been added a few lectures upon the History of Medicine, Massage, etc., in order that the student may know the principles of such systems, and learn to point out the independence of Osteopathy from them. Preface To The Third Edition. Owing to the largely increasing interest in the science of Osteopathy, its great success as a healing art, the opening of many schools for the teaching of the science, and the flocking to these schools of scores and hundreds of young men and women, the two previous editions of this book Principles of Osteopathy have been quickly exhausted. Repeated orders for the book reaching the author have made this third edition imperative at this time. The revision of these lectures has been thorough; the lectures on the History of Medicine have been omitted, as not being considered germain to the subject, and an appendix containing observations and facts of interest and value to the profession has been added. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Osteopathy, the New Science This little volume, which we believe is the first that has been published in book-form, on the science of Osteopathy, was written with a two-fold purpose. First: To inspire a greater love for Osteopathy in those who have taken it up as a life-work. Second: To give those who are not acquainted with the new science some idea of its teachings, and something of its importance to suffering humanity. In compiling it, we have quaffed generously from that fountain of knowledge - "The Journal of Osteopathy," whose proprietor and publisher. Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, is the discoverer of the science, and who, as a thinker and worker in the new field, stands unrivaled. At the close of this the 19th century, when modern thought is doing so much for civilization. Osteopathy presents its claims for serious consideration, feeling confident that an enlightened public will give it a befitting welcome, as the art of healing without drugs. Download or read book Clinical Osteopathy (Classic Reprint) written by Carl Philip McConnell and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Clinical Osteopathy The present period of medical history is characterized by definite development of the medical sciences. There is probably not a field that has not contributed distinct and exact data toward the evolvement of the practice of the healing art. The prosecution of sanitary knowledge has been noteworthy. The far better understanding of infective processes and the significance of immunology has fairly revolutionized certain practices. The appreciation of the importance of the endocrine organs in their relationship to the entire bodily economy has changed the viewpoint of many disorders. The far better understanding of the functions of the digestive tract due to more definite diagnostic methods has been of great value. These are a few of the present landmarks that have virtually changed the conception of certain physiological processes and contributed precise methods to the treatment of many disorders. Medical history shows that it is vouchsafed to but very few individuals to discover and contribute such far-reaching discoveries as Dr. Still has made. As time reveals the many brilliant workers in the scientific field the importance of Dr. Still's great work is enhanced. A clearer understanding of anatomical completeness and intactness, and the consequent significance of adjustment in order that physiological unity may be asserted through the inherent properties of the organism, is apparently foreshadowed by the many converging lines of medical development. It is fitting that at this time these coworkers, in Clinical Osteopathy, should compile, evaluate and rewrite the present understanding of the medical sciences as they apply to therapeutics. The osteopathic profession is very much in need of such a work; it fills a distinct requirement. We believe that the profession will take sufficient interest in this work so that it will be constructively criticised and much valuable data supplied by both teachers and practitioners of osteopathy in order that future editions will still better reflect the combined experience of the profession. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considered a groundbreaking medical discovery at the time Osteopathy is still a respected profession and is on the border between conventional and complementary medicine. In this book the founder of Osteopathy, Andrew Taylor Still, lays out the philosophies behind the art. Ahead of his time in such areas as belief in preventative care and disgust at the occasionally horrific side effects of the then-practices of conventional medicine AT Still decided (as in other areas of his life) to improve things rather than complain. Still was an interesting individual, prone to inventing his way around problems. He was also a doctor, author, surgeon, lawmaker and founder of a university.
