Book excerpt: A terrorist is targeting Britain. And to make matters worse it’s an “invisible”-- Mi5-speak for someone traveling under a British passport. Virtually impossible to find before it’s too late. The job falls to Liz Carlyle, the most resourceful counter terror agent in British intelligence. Tracking down this invisible is a challenge like none she has faced before. It will require all her hard-won experience, to say nothing of her intelligence and courage. Drawing on her own years as Britain's highest-ranking spy, Stella Rimington gives us a story that is smart, tautly drawn, and suspenseful from first to last.

Book excerpt: In Roads Were Not Built for Cars, Carlton Reid reveals the pivotal—and largely unrecognized—role that bicyclists played in the development of modern roadways. Reid introduces readers to cycling personalities, such as Henry Ford, and the cycling advocacy groups that influenced early road improvements, literally paving the way for the motor car. When the bicycle morphed from the vehicle of rich transport progressives in the 1890s to the “poor man’s transport” in the 1920s, some cyclists became ardent motorists and were all too happy to forget their cycling roots. But, Reid explains, many motor pioneers continued cycling, celebrating the shared links between transport modes that are now seen as worlds apart. In this engaging and meticulously researched book, Carlton Reid encourages us all to celebrate those links once again.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of Beyond Enkription and the rest of The Burlington Files series is Bill Fairclough who was born in England in 1950. In 1978 he founded a niche global intelligence organisation known as "Faire Sans Dire." The series is based on Bill Fairclough's life and some of Faire Sans Dire's activities. Beyond Enkription is the first novel in the series of six novels to be published. The series covers events involving Bill, his beguiling family and his double-dealing colleagues ranging from the First World War to 9/11, the related Nisha incidents and beyond. The series even covers new revelations about the Edward Snowden affair and has been or is being written with film adaptation in mind. Nevertheless each book is or will be a standalone novel albeit each one might comprise several films and/or television series. The first novel is set in 1974 in the heart of the Cold War. It is about a wayward accountant, Edward Burlington aka Bill Fairclough. In 1974 he is unwittingly working as an agent for MI6 by night whilst auditing beans during the day and is nearly murdered not just once but four times between March and June 1974. For his own safety Edward is underhandedly despatched to work as an accountant in Nassau only to be recruited by the CIA and face more death defying moments in the Bahamas, Brazil and Haiti before the year's end. Meanwhile his family are sucked inexorably into the perfidious mess and intrigue surrounding Edward's double life and their own machinations. The repercussions of the Burlington family's activities resonate from Kinshasa to Islamabad via Washington and Westminster and back. Nothing is what it seems to be in this treacherous novel where disinformation is the norm. Beyond Enkription is a family yarn and history; a spy novel and espionage reference book; a mystery and suspense thriller and more besides: a realistic tale of a dynastic duplicitous family that knows instinctively the knack of survival. The brutal opening contrasts well with the tantalising and duplicitous Prologue yet the physicality of the opening chapter is arguably far less vicious than the cerebral scheming that ensues. The book is a distinctive memorable and realistic read full of captivating characters. Its intertwined plots would have challenged Aristotle's intellect. So, when you read it, if you don't think so then you may have lost the plot! As one connoisseur put it succinctly ... "question everything you assume isn't disinformation." Critics described Beyond Enkription as "A compelling, provocative and beguiling spy novel: a must for connoisseurs ..." and "Brutal ab initio, cerebral thereafter but forever realistic ..." As for its realism you can always contrast Bill Fairclough's past on WikiTree or LinkedIn with Edward Burlington. Just how real can you get? We hope you enjoy reading it and succeed in differentiating between fact, fiction and disinformation. Please see http: //www.theburlingtonfiles.org, http: //www.fairesansdire.org, http: //uk.linkedin.com/in/billfairclough and http: //www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Fairclough-119&public=1 for more information ... assuming the authorities haven't closed down our websites by now and the other websites haven't tried to extinguish all evidence of knowledge of The Burlington Files!

Book excerpt: *From the creator of SLOW HORSES and soon to be a major TV series starring Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson* 'If you haven't read Zoë Boehm yet, welcome to your next fiction addiction' Val McDermid, author of Past Lying 'This is one of these novels where you read it, not just to see what happens at the end, but to see what happens on the very next page' Booklist When a body is hauled from the River Tyne, Sarah Tucker heads to Newcastle for a closer look. She identifies the dead woman, but putting a name to the corpse only raises further questions. Did the woman kill herself? Why was she wearing the jacket a murderer had stolen years before? And what's brought Sarah's former sparring partner Gerard Inchon to the same broken-down hotel where she's staying? Coincidence is an excuse that soon appears pretty unconvincing. Sarah can't leave until she's found the answers to her questions, however dangerous they might turn out to be.

Book excerpt: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a timeless classic: a gripping, fast-paced children's adventure story, written by Ian Fleming to read to his son, Caspar. It was first published in 1964 with illustrations by John Burningham. The car was inspired by the racing cars built by Count Louis Zborowski at Higham Park in Kent. Sadly, Ian Fleming never lived to see the book published: he died in 1964, two months before it came out. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the feature-film, loosely based on the book and co-written by Roald Dahl, was released in 1968.

Book excerpt: 'In these strange days Michael Harding's route taking and wise words gently nudge us towards the future, steadying us as we navigate the great unknowns ahead' Joe Duffy The bestselling new book from acclaimed writer and Irish Times columnist. It's dawn and in the early morning light, Michael Harding is walking in his garden in the hills above Lough Allen in Leitrim, dreaming of the new beginning in Donegal he had planned before the world changed in the early months of 2020. Here, in his stunning and intimate new book, we travel with Michael through this day as he looks back at a life lived within, and as part of, the Irish landscape. In doing so, he vividly brings to life what is at the heart of Irish identity: storytelling, love and human connection. With honesty, insight and tenderness, he shows that while everything has changed, that which is important remains the same; and how, in this new world, we can live with hope and faith in everything that is beautiful in the sky. What is Beautiful in the Sky is an account of our times: a record of our past and a promise of new beginnings. 'This morning is special. The air is cleaner than it used to be. Birds sing with a deeper resonance. The apple trees shed their petals and fatten their fruit with an astonishing defiance; as if nature itself carried a coded message; everything will be OK in the end. Hope may seem lost with each new death but love has become more visible in every hospital corridor in the world. "Let's begin again."
