Book excerpt: The South had lost the war and chaos had taken the place of a genteel life of the Southern people. The carpetbaggers and the Northern Government had made it impossible for the defeated South to retain any of its life it enjoyed before the war. Some fled to Mexico. Many to South America. In Mexico they were forced to return by the Mexican Government, but in South America they prospered. Clay and his family went west. There Clay became a legend as a cattleman and deadly with a six-shooter. From the Brazos to Dodge City to Cimarron to the Pecos Clay was known and feared by some.

Book excerpt: Doctor Nick Demmy had tried unsuccessfully to become a part of the controversial world of medical wonder for seven years, beginning with the day he became certified by the Association, but to no avail. Now, suddenly his dreams had come true. He was called to work with one specific patient in this privately funded and family operated research institution and only because he had proven himself in the world of phenomenology. His own independent study had earned him a good enough reputation to be a part of the future in eliminating all mental disabilities. He would be avant-garde in this new and challenging forte of the unknown. Finally, the chance that an understanding of the brain so great would take place that all individuals who suffered with mind unrest could be cured. And Nick would be an important element in this instrumental undertaking. Famous, so to speak. He wouldn’t disappoint these twenty first century explorers. I like Ice Cream in my Coffee: Part Five, The End is an exciting yet unbelievable twist of fate in an already unimaginable and thrilling ride. The reader will not only be surprised but awed with this implausible ending.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The year was 1945. World War II was over and humanity was trying to get back to the normal way of living. Replacements for the men who were going back to the States were just getting off the troop ship that had brought them here to this faraway land from home. Little did Rick know that within a few days, his whole life was going to change. The hawkers were on every block selling their wares. Every ten feet, a prostitute would stop you and ask you if you wanted to make love there wasn't anything you could not buy for the right price. Tsingtao had the most European looking railroad station in China. It was built by the Germans, to remind them of their homeland. The city itself was like any other city, with its open storefronts and the smell of food cooking. But it was also known as the "Sin City" of the orient, with its opium dens and smugglers. This story takes Rick down through the city's underground highway, which was used by the smugglers in the old days. What he did to help the children, the old, and the weak led Rick to being the most powerful ringleader in the black market in China. He became the most hunted by all of the authorities, known by the code name "Qua-Ming."

Book excerpt: Riding the White line is a symbol of life and how we live it. When I ride my bike on many of the back roads around my upstate NY town I follow the white fog line that marks the right hand side of the road. It is the white line that keeps me on the right path. If I stray too far to the left I endanger myself by riding in the travel lane, if I stray too far to the right, I run the risk of riding into the shoulder and crashing and getting a serious case of road rash. To lead a "normal" life is similar to riding the "white line". When you stray off course bad things can happen to you. Riding the White line helps me to stay focused and on course. Things go wrong when your life is out of balance just like when you stop riding the white line. What follows in this book are my thoughts and experiences during a life-changing, tumultuous part of my life. It follows the period in 1995 when I decided to start my own Internet Company, the merger and acquisition of other companies, my first cancer scare, the fall and ultimate demise of my foray into the business world, losing my job, and finally my battle with my cancer recurrence. Mix in a new house, teenagers, and world events like September 11, 2001 and it made for a wild ride.

Book excerpt: Silver Hair and Golden Memories is a collection of short stories about a lifetime of memories, experiences and offbeat opinions of Allen H. Forrester. The stories run the gamut from gut-busting funny, to tearfully sad. They are all true and reveal the author's inner-self even when it hurts. This book was never meant to lie on anyone's living room coffee table. It doesn't have any breath-taking colored pictures of the moon or amber waves of grain. It is, however, an excellent book to keep in the bathroom. The stories are short and concise. You can easily read one, . . . then . . . with laughter or tears, you can rip a page out and put it to good use. How cool is that?

Book excerpt: Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14 (KJV) "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." In the past I have been on the road that leads to destruction. Everything from self interest, distraction, and roadblocks have kept me from staying on the narrow road that leads to salvation. However, I have made up my mind that from this day forward I will stay on the path that leads to salvation and help anyone along the way. My prayer is that this book will help anyone who reads it to become closer to Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour and set them free from the lies of the devil.

Book Synopsis Salt & Straw Ice Cream Cookbook by : Tyler Malek
Download or read book Salt & Straw Ice Cream Cookbook written by Tyler Malek and published by Clarkson Potter. This book was released on 2019-04-30 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using a simple five-minute base recipe, you can make the “brilliant” (Andrew Zimmern), “astonishingly good” (Ruth Reichl) flavors of the innovative “ice cream gods” (Bon Appétit) Salt & Straw at home. NAMED ONE OF THE BEST COOKBOOKS OF THE SEASON BY Eater • Delish • Epicurious Based out of Portland, Oregon, Salt & Straw is the brainchild of two cousins, Tyler and Kim Malek, who had a vision but no recipes. They turned to their friends for advice—chefs, chocolatiers, brewers, and food experts of all kinds—and what came out is a super-simple base that takes five minutes to make, and an ice cream company that sees new flavors and inspiration everywhere they look. Using that base recipe, you can make dozens of Salt & Straw’s most beloved, unique (and a little controversial) flavors, including Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons, Roasted Strawberry and Toasted White Chocolate, and Buttered Mashed Potatoes and Gravy. But more importantly, this book reveals what they’ve learned, how to tap your own creativity, and how to invent flavors of your own, based on whatever you see around you. Because ice cream isn’t just a thing you eat, it’s a way to live. Praise for Salt & Straw Ice Cream Cookbook “Making ice cream at home is already enough of a mental hurdle. . . . Salt & Straw is out to prove us wrong with a new cookbook . . . making crazy ice cream flavors is more than doable—it’s addictive.”—Portland Monthly “The approachable, you-can-do-this nature of the book should be all that home cooks need to try it out.”—Eater “I originally sought out this book solely because of the Meyer Lemon Blueberry Buttermilk Custard. . . . It is the greatest ice cream flavor that’s ever existed and, because it’s only a seasonal flavor in their stores, I needed the recipe so I could make it whenever I wanted.”—Bon Appétit “A cookbook dedicated to ice cream? Yes, please. This is essential reading for Salt & Straw fans.”—Food & Wine “Few of America’s many ice cream makers are as seasonally minded and downright creative as Salt & Straw co-founder Tyler Malek.”—GrubStreet
