Book excerpt: The catalyst for "In A Hurry To Wait" was beginning the story of Saph and AC in the first book, "Reverse Atlantis - Saph's Tale". I didn't intend to create a series of books when I finished Saph's origins but after I included AC's character I couldn't resist. To be honest I began to get more interested in AC's life and started to picture him as a lead rather than just a background character. "When Two Generals Make One - A Caesar's Story" was finished I was so pleased to have brought his life to light. So many things had happened in their relationship by then. There are events that happen in this book that test their bond. There really is only so much one relationship can take. So, the decision has to be made if it is really worth it all. Of course I know they are fictitious characters but there was a part of me that felt I owed it to them to finish on a good note. I hope I did them justice in the end because this last story, in it's entirety really helped me to let go of AC and Saph finally.

Now, as she prepares for her school reunion, 39-year-old Sarah has to face up to the truth of what really happened back in the summer of 1986.
Book Synopsis Hurry Up and Wait: Our Broken Medicare Appeal System by : Bob Soltis
Download or read book Hurry Up and Wait: Our Broken Medicare Appeal System written by Bob Soltis and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-07-30 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last four years, the Chief Judge's office at the Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals has squandered millions of our tax dollars hiring HQ staff instead of worker bees. It affects all of us, not just those enrolled in Medicare. Hurry Up and Wait relies on the perspective its author gained presiding over more than 3,500 Medicare hearings as an administrative law judge. It gives an overview of Medicare, explains the appeal process, shows how mismanagement at OCALJ and poor work by CMS contractors created a 600,000 case backlog, analyzes proposals to fix the problem, provides real solutions, and shows you how to make your voice heard to make much needed changes in the system. A portion of the proceeds are donated to worthy causes, such as the Center for Medicare Advocacy, and Save Lakewood Hospital. Note: You can buy a book without setting up a Lulu account. Thank you.

Book Synopsis Can You Help Me? by : Thomas D. Bird
Download or read book Can You Help Me? written by Thomas D. Bird and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2019 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can You Help Me?: Living in the Turbulent World of Huntington Disease shares the surprising, insightful, challenging, and even encouraging stories of patients and their families who live with Huntington Disease. Having seen patients for more than 40 years, Dr Thomas Bird, a pioneer neurogeneticist, adds a human touch to this genetic brain disease that devastates persons during mid-life when they can least afford it. With a brief history of Huntington Disease and the occasional scientific detail, the true heart of the book is the human experience of the disorder: The man who cannot stay out of prison because he is addicted to being a burglar. Another man shoots and kills his roommate while watching television and cannot explain why he did it. The woman with Huntington Disease copes with her depression by using Texas line dancing. A twelve year old girl with juvenile Huntington Disease who can barely walk and talk, but her classmates rally around with touching and heartfelt support. And the 72 year old man with late onset Huntington Disease and severe depression is made worse by ECT, but improved (for a while) with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. These are just some of the compelling stories of people of all ages and in all walks of life who feel trapped by a progressive degenerative brain disease from which there is no escape.

Book excerpt: A pet-shop owner is killed in his store, and Mr. and Mrs. North take it personally A smart businessman would never think to open a pet shop in the inconspicuous patch of Greenwich Village known as West Kepp Street, but J. K. Halder isn’t here to make money. A millionaire animal lover, he keeps the shop as a hobby, even though it’s fate hangs perpetually in the balance. As it happens, Halder won’t see it through the end. He has just opened the shop for the day when his final customer enters. Halder knows the visitor by sight, and he also knows that nothing he can say will save his life. There are dozens of witnesses to the murder, but luckily for the killer, animals don’t talk. It will take a peculiar kind of detective to unravel this unusual murder, and there’s no sleuth more peculiar than Pamela North. She and her husband love animals nearly as much as Halder did, and they’ll go to any length to avenge his death. Murder in a Hurry is the 14th book in the Mr. and Mrs. North Mysteries, but you may enjoy reading the series in any order.

Book Synopsis Waiting for Unicorns by : Beth Hautala
Download or read book Waiting for Unicorns written by Beth Hautala and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2015-01-22 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A novel about one girl’s journey to the arctic, where she discovers the power of letting go of pain and opening up to second chances When twelve-year-old Talia—still reeling from the recent death of her mother—is forced to travel with her emotionally and physically distant whale-researcher father to the Arctic for the summer, she begins to wonder if the broken pieces inside of her will ever begin to heal. Like her jar of wishes, Talia feels bottled up and torn. Everything about life in Churchill feels foreign, including Sura, the traditional Inuit woman whom Talia must live with. But when Sura exposes her to the tradition of storytelling, she unlocks something within Talia that has long since been buried: her ability to hope, to believe again in making wishes come true. A rich and poignant story about opening up—to new people, to second chances, to moving forward with life. Praise for Waiting for Unicorns: "Debut author Hautala's writing in this first-person narrative is lyrical and evocative; her descriptions of the landscape are vivid. Written by an author to watch, this quiet story of loss and healing will appeal to thoughtful readers." --Kirkus Reviews "This poignant story demonstrates that opening up to new experiences, places, and people can enrich life even in the aftermath of tragedy."--School Library Journal “[An] affecting exploration of grief and the hope that can come through the love of good friends. With spellbinding descriptions…this story will stay with readers.”--Publishers Weekly “Contemplative writing…a thoughtful examination of loss and hope.”--Booklist "Hautala mines the frigid setting for some exquisitely wrought metaphors of sadness and grief, and Tal’s reflections on her situation are lyrical and yet still appropriate, given her age. Readers who were touched by Holly Goldberg Sloan’s Counting by 7s will find this to be a similarly moving tale."--BCCB Reviews "Middle school readers will embrace Talia and her new family in the Arctic and perhaps receive the message about the power of stories to heal."--VOYA Reviews "This is a well-written tween novel that deals with growing pains, grief, and loneliness."--School Library Connection

Book Synopsis Man in a Hurry and Other Fantasy Stories by : Alan Nelson
Download or read book Man in a Hurry and Other Fantasy Stories written by Alan Nelson and published by Wildside Press LLC. This book was released on 2016-02-04 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alan Nelson was not a prolific writer, and as far as I know he wrote (or at least had published) only short stories. No novels. However, these stories are true gems. They originally appeared in some of the most prestigious venues for short fiction of the 1940s and 1950s. Many of Nelson's fantasy tales first appeared in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, where they were very popular, but his stories also appeared in Bluebook, Weird Tales, and even Cosmopolitan. Wherever these appeared, readers could always be assured that any Alan Nelson story would be something special, something that would be great fun to read and eminently entertaining-often thoughtful-always wonderful!" -- GARY LOVISI

Book excerpt: This is the second volume in a new series of collaborations between artist Maira Kalman, writer Daniel Handler (a.k.a. Lemony Snicket), and The Museum of Modern Art, New York. This time a whimsical collection of images captures people in motion--or not. In snapshots by some of the world's most celebrated photographers, some people stride forth, dash across streets, race on bicycles, and jump over puddles, while others form snaking lines, daydream on park benches, and linger on sidewalks with friends.
