Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a self-contained introduction to the theory of minisum hyperspheres. This specialized research area within the larger field of geometric optimization is full of interesting and open problems. This work provides an overview of the history of minisum hyperspheres as well as describes the best techniques for developing and solving minisum hypersphere problems. Various related areas of geometric and nonlinear optimization are also discussed. As the first publication devoted to this area of research, this work will be of great interest to graduate-level researchers studying minisum hypersphere problems as well as mathematicians interested geometric optimization.

Book excerpt: Hypersphere, written by Anonymous with the help of the 4chan board /lit/ (of The Legacy of Totalitarianism in a Tundra fame) is an epic tale spanning over 700 pages. A postmodern collaborative writing effort containing Slavoj Zizek erotica, top secret Donald Trump emails, poetry, repair instructions for future cars, a history of bottles in the Ottoman empire; actually, it contains everything since it takes place in the Hypersphere, and the Hypersphere is a big place; really big in fact.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of notes exploring multiplanes and multispheres using Grassmann algebra with Mathematica. A multiplane is an m-dimensional generalization of the notions of point, line, plane and hyperplane. A multisphere is an m-dimensional generalization of the notions of point-pair, circle, sphere and hypersphere. Grassmann algebra is a generalization of the notions of scalars, vectors and vector spaces. Mathematica is a system for doing mathematics on a computer.Grassmann algebra has now emerged as one of the more important tools for exploring multidimensional geometry and mathematical physics. It not only generalizes the classic vector algebra to enable construction of (unlocated) bivectors, trivectors and multivectors, it is also an algebra par excellence for working with located entities such as points, lines, planes and multiplanes. But multiplanes are not alone in their space. To every multiplane corresponds a docked multisphere and vice versa. (A docked multisphere passes through the origin.) Corresponding points on a multiplane-multisphere pair are inverses. And because we can easily dock a multisphere by adding a displacement vector to its points, we can work with multispheres by operating on their corresponding multiplanes. For example: we can intersect two multispheres, or a multisphere and a multiplane; construct the best-fit multisphere to a system of points; compute the complex of circles for a Clifford circle theorem, or generate the in-multisphere of a simplex.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in its fifth edition, A Mathematics Sampler presents mathematics as both science and art, focusing on the historical role of mathematics in our culture. It uses selected topics from modern mathematics--including computers, perfect numbers, and four-dimensional geometry--to exemplify the distinctive features of mathematics as an intellectual endeavor, a problem-solving tool, and a way of thinking about the rapidly changing world in which we live. A Mathematics Sampler also includes unique LINK sections throughout the book, each of which connects mathematical concepts with areas of interest throughout the humanities. The original course on which this text is based was cited as an innovative approach to liberal arts mathematics in Lynne Cheney's report, "50 HOURS: A Core Curriculum for College Students", published by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
