Book Synopsis Assessment of Hybrid-electric Transit Bus Technology by : Nigel N. Clark
Download or read book Assessment of Hybrid-electric Transit Bus Technology written by Nigel N. Clark and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2009 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TCRP Report 132: Assessment of Hybrid-Electric Transit Bus Technology provides decisionmaking guidelines coupled with a comprehensive life cycle cost model (LCCM) to assist transit managers in evaluating, selecting, and implementing hybrid-electric technology options for transit buses. The guidelines and the accompanying LCC model resulted from the gathering of site data coupled with a comprehensive review of both capital requirements and operating costs of hybrid-electric buses in comparison with those powered by traditional diesel engines. Information grew out of a sound, engineering-based, independent technical evaluation of the costs, performance, and reliability of hybrid-electric transit bus technology in actual service. The LCC model, contained on the accompanying CD-ROM (CRP-CD-71), allows the user to compare the total life cycle costs across several cost categories for up to 6 different "purchase scenarios." These scenarios let the user decide when the purchases will be made, the types of buses to be compared, the work load of the buses, and many other cost inputs in determining benefits and costs associated with alternative purchasing strategies.

This book was released on 2018-08-29 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A government, industry and academic cooperative has developed a Hybrid Electric Transit Bus (HETB). Goals of the program include doubling the fuel economy of city transit buses currently in service, and reducing emissions to one-tenth of EPA standards. Unique aspects of the vehicle's power system include the use of ultra-capacitors for the energy storage system and the planned use of a natural gas fueled turbogenerator, to be developed from a small jet engine. At over 17000 kg gross weight, this is the largest vehicle to use ultra-capacitor energy storage. A description of the HETB, the results of performance testing, and future vehicle development plans are the subject of this report.Brown, Jeffrey C. and Eichenberg, Dennis J. and Thompson, William K.Glenn Research CenterELECTRIC HYBRID VEHICLES; URBAN TRANSPORTATION; ENGINE DESIGN; DESIGN ANALYSIS; PERFORMANCE TESTS; HYBRID PROPULSION; ENERGY STORAGE; CAPACITORS; NATURAL GAS; TURBOGENERATORS; FUEL CONSUMPTION; ENVIRONMENT EFFECTS; TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER; JET ENGINES...
Book Synopsis Hybrid Electric Vehicles by : Teresa Donateo
Download or read book Hybrid Electric Vehicles written by Teresa Donateo and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2017-06-21 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on hybrid electric vehicles brings out six chapters on some of the research activities through the wide range of current issues on hybrid electric vehicles. The first section deals with two interesting applications of HEVs, namely, urban buses and heavy duty working machines. The second one groups papers related to the optimization of the electricity flows in a hybrid electric vehicle, starting from the optimization of recharge in PHEVs through advance storage systems, new motor technologies, and integrated starter-alternator technologies. A comprehensive analysis of the technologies used in HEVs is beyond the aim of the book. However, the content of this volume can be useful to scientists and students to broaden their knowledge of technologies and application of hybrid electric vehicles.

This book was released on 2003-03-30 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of alternative fuels to power transit buses is steadily increasing. Several fuels, including Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), and Methanol/Ethanol, are already being used. At present, there are no available comprehensive facility guidelines to assist transit agencies contemplating converting from diesel to electric of hybrid electric propulsion. This document addresses that need.
Download or read book Bus Transport written by David A Hensher and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-01-30 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The bus is the most patronised of all land–based public passenger mode but is seen as a somewhat unglamorous means of supporting mobility and accessibility, in contrast to rail – heavy and light, yet offers so much to the travelling public as well as offering attractive sustainability opportunities. This book reflects the author’s perspective on issues of importance to the preservation and health of the bus sector. The twenty one chapters cover the themes of institutional reform, performance measurement and monitoring, service quality, costing and pricing of services including commercial and non-commercial contracts, travel choice and demand, integrated bus-based systems, and public transport policy, especially challenges in growing patronage.
Download or read book Future Drive written by Daniel Sperling and published by Island Press. This book was released on 2013-02-22 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Future Drive, Daniel Sperling addresses the adverse energy and environmental consequences of increased travel, and analyzes current initiatives to suggest strategies for creating a more environmentally benign system of transportation. Groundbreaking proposals are constructed around the idea of electric propulsion as the key to a sustainable transportation and energy system. Other essential elements include the ideas that: improving technology holds more promise than large-scale behavior modification technology initiatives must be matched with regulatory and policy initiatives government intervention should be flexible and incentive-based, but should also embrace selective technology-forcing measures more diversity and experimentation is needed with regard to vehicles and energy technologies Sperling evaluates past and current attempts to influence drivers and vehicle use, and articulates a clear and compelling vision of the future. He formulates a coherent and specific set of principles, strategies, and policies for redirecting the United States and other countries onto a new sustainable pathway.
Book Synopsis Bus Systems for the Future by : International Energy Agency
Download or read book Bus Systems for the Future written by International Energy Agency and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cities around the world face enormous problems of transport sustainability. Rapidly increasing populations and vehicle usage have created gridlock and sprawl, even in very poor cities, as well as unacceptably high levels of air pollution, noise, and accident rates. But improvements can be made. This book explores how the provision of better bus services can bring concrete solutions. "Bus rapid transit" systems emerging in Latin America provide fast, reliable and efficient urban travel for large numbers of people. Express busways, employing high-capacity buses and new technologies such as GPS-based bus tracking systems, can conveniently and reliably move up to 10 times as many people along a route as can cars - and be profitable. This book shows how bus rapid transit differs from traditional bus systems and how it can be developed around the world. There is a detailed look at clean fuels and advanced technologies such as "clean diesel", CNG, hybrid-electric and fuel cells. Case studies are made of six cities and of the steps each might take to encourage more sustainable transport systems
