Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Practical, common sense, terrier work for the beginner, laid out in a clear no-nonsense style with chapters on the history of working terriers in Europe and America, along with sections on introducing young dogs to work, tools, technique, American terrier quarry, hazards, and veterinary care for working dogs. The sections on veterinary care and tools alone will save most people more money than the cost of this book, while the tips on digging, locator collars, skunk toxic shock, and handling quarry at the end of a dig, may save you more than money. This is a book on working terriers, but if you show, breed or judge any type of working terrier you need to read chapters one, two and four, not only to understand the true history of working terriers in Great Britain and the United States, but also to understand why (and how) show judges have selected for linked structural characteristics that have resulted in breed after breed disappearing from the working field. 270 pages, with 80 photos and illustrations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mink are famous worldwide for their luxurious coat of fur, and yet most people know very little about them beyond their use as clothing. Even trappers, naturalists, and fur farmers, those who should know mink best, typically know only one side of the mink... their bad side. Those who do "know mink" will tell you how extremely aggressive and blood thirsty the mink is, and truth be told, they aren't that far off. But there is a different side to mink that very few have seen. This book not only tells how the art of Minkenry began, but more importantly, it is a step by step guide to those wanting to train a hunting mink. In this book I share how to tame, train, and properly care for this very intense little predator, the North American mink. Though still in its infancy, the sport of minkenry has been spreading thanks to the information sharing power of the Internet. First started in the western state of Utah, there are now minkeners springing up across the United States, and even as far away as the UK, Germany, France, and other European countries! As there is a growing need for a "how to" manual on the art of minkenry, this book was written specifically to fill that need. Minkenry is a very challenging sport, and is definitely not for everyone! Though highly intelligent, and surprisingly affectionate, mink are also very high-strung and stubborn creatures. They typically use their intelligence to work against you, far more than they do to work with you. Though not an adventure for the faint of heart; falconers, hunters, trappers, and other sportsmen worldwide, are being drawn to the art of minkenry with a pioneer's spirit. They have the desire to become part of something that has never been done before! If you yearn to experience the challenge of hunting with an aggressive, high strung, truly wild animal; then join us and become one of the pioneers in the new sport of minkenry!

This book was released on 2013-03-06 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is one of the few early 20th century dog books to deal solely with the true `Working Terrier'. Now very scarce and much sought after in its original limited edition, it has been reprinted by Read Country Books in a high quality hard back format. Written by an expert in both breeding and working terriers, the book is packed with practical advice, and includes many original photographs of terriers in action against a variety of quarry. J.C. Bristow-Noble was well known in his time as a breeder of top quality sporting terriers. He spent many years experimenting with cross-breeding Fox terriers and Sealyhams with other dog breeds and occasionally with famous mongrel terriers, before finally concentrating on Jack Russell terriers, always keeping the description of Russell's famous "Trump" in his mind's eye. His ideal sporting terrier for entering to badger, fox and other quarry was a thick-set 14 pound (lb), hard/dense coated dog with a muzzle of moderate length and an even and fairly thick jaw bone. This rule of thumb eventually led to him owning a kennel of working dogs second to none and well-known throughout the country. His terriers were regularly sold for sums in excess of 50.00 - an enormous sum of money in the early 1900s. His stud dogs were also much in demand even at his minimum stud fee of 10 guineas.

Book excerpt: In Spain, it is estimated that up to 100,000 hunting dogs are abandoned at the end of the hare coursing season every year. This book documents those dogs that have been rescued and sets them against the locations in Spain where they are typically abandoned: the sides of roads, the ravines and the empty car parks. Shot in a style that references the tone and mood of Velzquez, who painted at a time when these dogs were treated with great respect, Martin Usborne's photographs show both the classical beauty of the animals and the ugliness of their modern situation.
