Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Currently America is involved in a national controversy concerning the state of health care. One faction of the government believes that we should have more and better health care for less cost. The other equally vocal side of the American people believes that medical care should stay as is. The argument is about access and cost. The fact is, both access is difficult and costs are up because we are not healing people. The real issue is how do we change our current medical system from merely treating illness to preventing illness in the first place? Secondly when illness exists instead of forcing people to suffer years of pain and illness for years, why not heal illness in its earliest stages long before it creates a permanent problem? One way many people are dealing with this crisis is to move away from traditional Western medical care and instead seeking alternative health care resources. This counter-cultural movement is clearly gaining an ever increasing share of the medical health care market. The problem here is that most alternative care still operates from the standard Western medical model, leaving us merely using one method of maintaining illness for another method of maintaining illness. In the end we have many different but yet similar methodologies. There is no medical treatment that includes looking at root causes (blocks and conflicts or faulty beliefs) and how to prevent them to keep you well or heal your illnesses. The Lawrences are not willing to simply accept the status quo. They have searched long and hard for a system that healed rather then maintained illness. They found this system in a little known ancient healing system called Huna. Huna is a two thousand year-old Polynesian/Hawaiian healing modality which successfully emphasizes prevention of illness before it occurs and healing it once it has occurred. To the Huna master, illness cannot be resolved without bringing mind, body and spirit to work together. This is in stark contrast with western medical practices and many alternative systems. Huna teaches the individuals not to treat symptoms but to rather heal illness before it becomes problematic and even life-threatening. The Lawrences tell how to bring this, previously secret knowledge of healing, to our present modern technology-based system in order to create a totally revolutionary healing philosophy. Using Huna along with your standard medical care brings you together with the very best and most valuable aspects of both Western medicine and alternative medicine. Huna creates a simple way to add mind, body, spirituality, psychology, and new healing techniques and information to the practice of modern Western medicine and in the process demonstrates the use of a new science called psycho-neuroimmunobiology. Before there were medical doctors, hospitals and research labs there were healers, shamans and wise men and women. These ancients were the scientists and doctors of the past who were able to heal in effective ways. Their knowledge has recently been rediscovered and combined with the basics of Western medicine in Huna and the Future of Medicine, to offer one of the most comprehensive and effective approaches to healing yourself and others. Some highlights of this book include: Body, Mind, Spirit and Consciousness and how they are interrelated to create illness and wellness Integrated and Alternative Medicine versus Western Medicine Prevention of Illness Transforming illness into wellness Reversing chronic illnesses Strengthening the immune system Stress-Related disorders and diseases Working with non-traditional healers Higher Self and healing Huna and the practice of medicine Huna Prayer (Spirituality) and healing Now for the first time, an M.D. and Ph.D. have taken the wisdom of Huna and demonstrate how, when combined with medical science, to treat Stress-Related illnesses, and chronic diseases, you can heal. This is the future of medicine and the healing arts.

Book excerpt: The ancient wisdom of Hawai’i has been guarded for centuries—handed down through line of kinship to form the tradition of Huna. Dating back to the time before the first missionary presence arrived in the islands, the tradition of Huna is more than just a philosophy of living—it is intertwined and deeply connected with every aspect of Hawaiian life. Blending ancient Hawaiian wisdom with modern practicality, Serge Kahili King imparts the philosophy behind the beliefs, history, and foundation of Huna. More important, King shows readers how to use Huna philosophy to attain both material and spiritual goals. To those who practice Huna, there is a deep understanding about the true nature of life—and the real meaning of personal power, intention, and belief. Through exploring the seven core principles around which the practice revolves, King passes onto readers a timeless and powerful wisdom.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Future Medicine is an investigation into the clinical, legal, ethical, and regulatory changes occurring in our health care system as a result of the developing field of Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). Here Michael H. Cohen describes the likely evolution of the legal system and the health care system at the crossroads of developments in the way human beings care for body, mind, emotions, environment, and soul. Through the use of fascinating and relevant case studies, Cohen presents stimulating questions that will challenge academics, intellectuals, and all those interested in the future of health care. In concise, evocative strokes, the book lays the foundation for a novel synthesis of ideas from such diverse disciplines as transpersonal psychology, political philosophy, and bioethics. Providing an exploration of regulatory conundrums faced by many healing professionals, Cohen articulates the value of expanding our concept of health care regulation to consider not only goals of fraud control and quality assurance, but also health care freedom, integration of global medicine, and human transformation. Future Medicine provides a fair-minded, illuminating, and honest discussion that will interest hospice workers, pastoral counselors, and psychotherapists, as well as bioethicists, physicians and allied health care providers, complementary and alternative medical providers (such as chiropractors, acupuncturists, naturopaths, massage therapists, homeopaths, and herbalists), and attorneys, hospital administrators, health care executives, and government health care workers. Michael H. Cohen is Director for Legal Programs, the Center for Research and Education in Complementary and Integrative Medical Therapies, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School.

Book excerpt: DURING THE past century investigations have been made of native magic in Africa, India and other parts of the world. Spiritualistic phenomena have been certified as genuine and studied painstakingly by over a hundred recognized scientists. Religions have been surveyed and the instant or nearly instant miraculous healing at Lourdes verified. But from all these studies and efforts there has come nothing faintly resembling a definite basic system, philosophy, theory, or psycho-religious science which would explain, even in the most general terms, the phenomena of the various fields. In fact, investigations in these fields began to arrive at a stalemate several years ago. New discoveries have been conspicuously lacking. A much fuller and more detailed account of the long investigation is planned when the last stage-the experimental stage-has added its quota. (From Part 1) Get Your Copy Today!

Book excerpt: Max Freedom Long's 'Self-Suggestion and the New Huna Theory of Mesmerism and Hypnosis' delves into the realm of mind-body connections, exploring the power of suggestion and the Huna theory of healing through hypnotic techniques. Long's writing is clear and concise, making complex concepts accessible to readers interested in psychology and alternative healing practices. Drawing from his research on Polynesian shamanism, Long provides a unique perspective on the intersection of Western psychology and ancient spiritual traditions. This book is a valuable resource for those seeking to understand the potential of the human mind in relation to health and well-being. Max Freedom Long, known for his work on the Huna philosophy, was a researcher and author fascinated by the ways in which indigenous cultures approached healing and spiritual practices. His background in anthropology and psychology informed his exploration of hypnotism and mesmerism, leading to the creation of the Huna theory. Long's expertise in these areas shines through in 'Self-Suggestion and the New Huna Theory of Mesmerism and Hypnosis,' making it a comprehensive and insightful read for anyone interested in alternative healing methods. I highly recommend 'Self-Suggestion and the New Huna Theory of Mesmerism and Hypnosis' to readers intrigued by the intersection of psychology, spirituality, and holistic healing. Long's scholarly approach and thorough research make this book a valuable addition to any library focused on mind-body connections and the power of suggestion.

Book excerpt: One of the transformations facing health care in the twenty-first century is the safe, effective, and appropriate integration of conventional, or biomedical, care with complementary and alternative medical (CAM) therapies, such as acupuncture, chiropractic, massage therapy, herbal medicine, and spiritual healing. In Healing at the Borderland of Medicine and Religion, Michael H. Cohen discusses the need for establishing rules and standards to facilitate appropriate integration of conventional and CAM therapies. The kind of integrated health care many patients seek dwells in a borderland between the physical and the spiritual, between the quantifiable and the immeasurable, Cohen observes. But the present environment fails to present clear rules for clinicians regarding which therapies to recommend, accept, or discourage, and how to discuss patient requests regarding inclusion of such therapies. Focusing on the social, intellectual, and spiritual dimensions of integrative care and grounding his analysis in the attendant legal, regulatory, and institutional changes, Cohen provides a multidisciplinary examination of the shift to a more fluid, pluralistic health care environment.

Book excerpt: “Reality is experience, and experience is reality,” says Hawaiian shaman Serge King, speaking of Huna, the esoteric tradition in which he was reared.King emphasizes that all of us have the ability to shift from one world to another. The difference is that shamans do it purposefully, while the rest of us are unaware of it. He trains us to engage in the process consciously in order to expand our human potential. Among books on Huna, this one is unique for offering actual practices for changing our reality to create the life we want. In a user-friendly, conversational style, King’s chapters explain the four worlds of a shaman and basic Huna principles. Then, citing case studies, he guides us in how to change reality in each of the four worlds, bringing in ESP, telepathy, the perception of auras, telekinesis, dreaming, magical flight, and, finally, soul retrieval and the great power of healing. “It sounds simple,” says King, “and it is. The most difficult part is to accept the simplicity, because that means changing one's idea about what reality is. And that's what this book is all about.”
