Book excerpt: This book consists of a series of papers on the Intergrated Family Planning Nutrition Parasite Control Project currently implemented in 12 countries in Asia and Latin America. Previous writings are included so that the various aspects of the Integrated Project could be presented in an understandable way. The book's individual chapters focus on the following: a philosophical background for humanistic family planning; the family planning movement in early postwar Japan; humanistic family planning and the dawn of humanistic family planning; from the Integrated Family Planning Nutrition Parasite Control Program to Primary Health Care; a personal history of the voluntary health movement; and a brief history of Japan's family planning movement. The concept of family planning and the means of contraception derive from the process in which a human being awakens to rationalism and wants to protect his/her life and bring happiness to his/her family. As family planning was not created only for the purpose of solving the population problem nor as a means of promoting economic and social development of the country, family planning must emphasize more the human elements. There are several ways to promote family planning for people: maternal health, sound growth of children, and happiness of the family must be incorporated into the family planning concept; the family planning workers must receive training that conforms with such purposes; and family planning programs must be integrated with something else. The partner for integration with family planning should be more in tune with the daily life of the people, more concrete, and require less funding and technology. The integration project of family planning nutrition parasite control aims to have parasite experts train family planning workers in parasite control activities and to win the people's trust and confidence in family planning. After having been provided the necessary knowledge and training concerning parasite control, family planning workers can double their functions. It is possible to extend the functions and responsibilities of family planning workers to other fields and ultimately create multipurpose health workers. The Integrated Program is effective in promoting parasite control and family planning and is becoming an entry point for primary health care and community development.
Book Synopsis Family Planning Programs by : Darlene Judy Letwinetz McCue

Book excerpt: Abstract. Background to the nature and choice of the subject of the thesis family planning in less developed countries, is presented in the first chapter. The rationale which has given rise to most of the family plan¬ ning programs in these countries is then analysed. Some important human istic concerns related to family planning, hut overlooked by the family planning rationale, are discussed. Then, six African family planning programs are evaluated for their humanistic potential. These programs, mostly products of the family planning rationale, illustrate the short¬ comings of the common approach to family planning. An alternative approach, one oriented toward meeting people's real needs rather than merely decreasing numbers, is suggested. Two possible sources of the elements of a humanistic approach to family planning are examined. One is community development experience in the less developed countries and the other, recent trends in the field of family planning itself. Their contributions to a humanistic approach are summarised in five guiding principles for family planning programs.

Book excerpt: This fast paced and well documented analysis of the government's steady march away from God will either thrill or anger you - depending on your worldview. For those of us who acknowledge the Creator of the Universe as our God, Savior, and Lord, this document tends to stir up both the sadness at the exponential slippage from our foundations as a Country, and a challenge to stand strongly and openly against the growing intensity of those who would remove "religion" from America. The "nations rage" sometimes and "imagine a vain thing," but "he who sits in the heavens shall laugh." Mr. Frater has done a wonderful job of tracing the Humanist movement from its early inception and its subtle and damaging impact on our nation over the decades. All serious students of history and those of Kingdom concern should avail themselves of his work. Henry M. Morris III Chief Executive Officer Institute for Creation Research George Frater, B.S., M.S., M.A., Ed.S., retired Quality Assurance/Quality Control Coordinator, Air Monitoring Department, Environmental Protection Commission, Hillsborough County, Florida. Book Synopsis Justice-Centered Humanism by : Roy Speckhardt
Download or read book Justice-Centered Humanism written by Roy Speckhardt and published by Pitchstone Publishing (US&CA). This book was released on 2021-04-06 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humanists are quick to defend threats to the separation of church and state, but they have not always been consistently unified in engaging with pressing issues of race, class, gender, and sexuality—namely, those linked to economic, environmental, and social justice. Drawing on his tenure as executive director of the American Humanist Association, Roy Speckhardt calls for humanists everywhere to center justice in their humanism by promoting public policy based on ethical humanist principles. Acknowledging the challenges inherent to this type of advocacy and activism—such as balancing short-term needs with long-term goals, and espousing a common humanity without erasing differences—he makes a compelling case for championing justice-centered humanism. He also provides guidance for doing so, whether on the local, state, or federal level. Precisely because there is no such thing as cosmic justice in an afterlife, he reminds, it's especially important that humanists everywhere combat injustice in this life.

Download or read book What is Humanism and Why Does it Matter? written by Anthony B. Pinn and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-06-16 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in a world of social, political, economic, and religious rupture. Ideologies polarise to fuel confrontation within communities, nations and regions of the world. At this point in the twenty-first century, humanism's focus on reason, ethics and justice offers the potential to rethink and re-engage in new ways. "What Is Humanism, and Why Does It Matter?" brings together leading humanist thinkers and activists to examine humanism and how it can work in the world. Humanism is often misunderstood. The movement includes both atheists and agnostics, who seek to make ethical sense of the world based on shared human values and a concern for human welfare, happiness and fulfillment. "What Is Humanism, and Why Does It Matter?" presents an overview and exploration of the meaning and nature of humanism, both as a philosophy and as a way of engaging with the challenges of the world.
