Book Synopsis Human Dentofacial Growth by : Denys H. Goose
Download or read book Human Dentofacial Growth written by Denys H. Goose and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-06 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human Dentofacial Growth addresses the study of development and growth of the craniofacial region, which is required as a background for orthodontics and pedodontics. Designed as a reference book for dental students, the book discusses and stresses the relevance of clinical problems. Starting with a background of human growth – prenatal, postnatal, and the factors affecting growth, the book then shifts attention to the bone formation throughout the embryonic, fetal, and post-natal life. The bone development, structure, and growth are also explained. The growth of the craniofacial region is also examined, and a description of the mandible follows. Illustrations accompany this description and the growth process of the mandible is given in more detail. Emphasis is given to the temporomandibular joint between the condylar process of the mandible and the squamous temporal bone of the cranium. Cephalometric techniques in orthodontic assessment and treatment management and monitoring are described. Cephalometric approaches are also included in analyzing facial growth. An important part of dentofacial development and growth is the development and structure of the teeth and their supporting structures. The role of ectomesenchyme in tooth development and more descriptive details on the dentine, enamel, and the periodontium are given. The formation of the dental arch is then examined, including the mechanism of tooth eruption, reasons for differences in tooth number, and the interaction between the teeth and dental arches. Students of dentistry and orthodontics, cosmetic dentists, oral surgeons, dental hygienists, and professors interested in craniofacial growth will find this book valuable.
Download or read book Jaws written by Sandra Kahn and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2018-04-10 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There's a silent epidemic in western civilization, and it is right under our noses. Our jaws are getting smaller and our teeth crooked and crowded, creating not only aesthetic challenges but also difficulties with breathing. Modern orthodontics has persuaded us that braces and oral devices can correct these problems. While teeth can certainly be straightened, what about the underlying causes of this rapid shift in oral evolution and the health risks posed by obstructed airways? Sandra Kahn and Paul R. Ehrlich, a pioneering orthodontist and a world-renowned evolutionist, respectively, present the biological, dietary, and cultural changes that have driven us toward this major health challenge. They propose simple adjustments that can alleviate this developing crisis, as well as a major alternative to orthodontics that promises more significant long-term relief. Jaws will change your life. Every parent should read this book.

Book Synopsis Cranio-Facial Growth in Man by : Robert E. Moyers
Download or read book Cranio-Facial Growth in Man written by Robert E. Moyers and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cranio-Facial Growth in Man contains the proceedings of a Conference on Genetics, Bone Biology, and Analysis of Growth Data, held in Ann Arbor, Michigan on May 1-3, 1967. Contributors discuss the state of knowledge in the area of cranio-facial growth, with emphasis on three primary areas of cranio-facial research: bone biology, genetics, and analysis of growth data. This text consists of 19 chapters organized into six sections. After giving an overview of research on cranio-facial growth done at the National Institute of Dental Research (NIDR), this book turns its attention to the biology of bone. Topics covered in this section include the mechanisms of cartilage growth and replacement in endochondral ossification; the histological characteristics of bone that reflect mineral homeostasis; and modes of growth of the neurocranium. The reader is also introduced to the genetics of cranio-facial growth and techniques in processing and handling growth data. A chapter that evaluates methods and perspectives in cranio-facial research concludes the book. This book will serve as a useful guide to prospective and active investigators in the field of human biology, to graduate students in their selection of a meaningful research topic, and to the NIDR in terms of future program planning.

Book Synopsis Essentials of Facial Growth by : Donald H. Enlow
Download or read book Essentials of Facial Growth written by Donald H. Enlow and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Authored by the foremost experts in the field, this compact reference serves the student and clinician by relating basic science to successful treatment planning. It demonstrates how the best instrument in dental medicine is often the practitioner's knowledge of the body's biologic growth principles. Donald H. Enlow, MS, PhD, the acknowledged pioneer and research leader in facial growth study for the past twenty years, provides comprehensive insights into normal and abnormal craniofacial growth and development. His colleague, Mark G. Hans, DDS, MSD, contributes a concrete understanding of the importance of these concepts in clinical practice. It delves into the interrelationships between soft tissue and skeletal growth, and examines the impact of function upon development. And it stresses the ways in which these biological principles and concepts affect treatment planning, selection, results, relapse, tooth movement, and nonbiological prosthetic implants during growth. Detailed illustrations make key concepts and developmental processes simple to grasp, and a user-friendly organization allows for quick comprehension and convenient referral.
