Book Synopsis Socio-Environmental Research in Latin America by : Santiago López
Download or read book Socio-Environmental Research in Latin America written by Santiago López and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-29 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This contributed volume presents relevant examples of socio-environmental research that highlight the challenges and opportunities of using geotechnologies in interdisciplinary settings across the vast, culturally, and environmentally mega-diverse region known as Latin America. While remote sensing has been mostly used for mapping and monitoring physical features, geographic information systems open up opportunities for the integration of socio-economic and environmental data collected through individual and community-based surveys, in-situ measurements, and other participatory research techniques to offer additional analytically grounded power when evaluating socio-environmental processes that shape Latin American landscapes. The topics addressed in this book include deforestation and land degradation, borderlands dynamics, agriculture and agroecological systems, environmental conservation and development, public health, tourism, environmental justice, archeology, volunteered geography and urban planning, among others. The book is intended for academics, graduate and undergraduate classrooms, and general audiences with interest in Latin America and the socio-environmental issues that threaten the sustainability of the region and local communities. The book will also appeal to practitioners, managers, and policy makers interested in the application of geo-technologies and field-based research to address complex socio-environmental problems in the Global South.
Book Synopsis Analyzing Sustainability in Peripheral, Ultra-Peripheral, and Low-Density Regions by : Castanho, Rui Alexandre
Download or read book Analyzing Sustainability in Peripheral, Ultra-Peripheral, and Low-Density Regions written by Castanho, Rui Alexandre and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2022-06-24 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last few years, advances in studies and research associated with the borderlands and the subsequent cross-border cooperation (CBC) have been increased and introduced all over the globe. Such advances essentially affect the cross-border strategies and policies, processes of border cooperation, and several complex border movements. Moreover, similar scenarios are encountered in ultra-peripheral and remote territories and low-density regions. There are common denominators, such as the limited land, water resources, and overexploitation of tourism, among many other factors, that make these specific territories critical case studies concerning their governance and sustainable development and growth. Analyzing Sustainability in Peripheral, Ultra-Peripheral, and Low-Density Regions investigates activities, processes, and behaviors in light of the new challenges and the desired sustainable development and growth model. It analyzes the dynamics and patterns ongoing in the peripheral, ultra-peripheral, and low-density regions regarding sustainability and the issues that may influence it. Covering topics such as glamping tourism, vegetation quality, and territorial cohesion, this premier reference source is an essential resource for government officials, business executives and managers, community leaders, environmentalists, researchers, and academicians.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Configuring Community by : Parvati Nair
Download or read book Configuring Community written by Parvati Nair and published by MHRA. This book was released on 2004 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation "The concept of community has become central to constructions of Spanish identities, since the Transition to democracy. Contemporary Spain witnesses a political, social, and economic resurgence of community, which both cuts across and is prioritized over nation. Yet, few studies of contemporary Spanish culture deal with this concept. This book aims, therefore, to fill a gap in Spanish cultural studies by providing an in-depth analysis of the intersections of theories, narratives and concepts of community identities across a broad range of media. Literature, film, music, and photography are analysed here in order to explore the diverse means by which community is imagined and constructed. This is a strongly interdisciplinary study, bringing together cultural studies and ethnography. The specific 'texts' that are analysed are located within a larger framework provided by Spain's involvement in processes of globalization. Unusual in this study, therefore, is the use of fieldwork and interview, as well as the application of the work of cultural theorists to the Spanish context." "This book, thus, extends the field of Spanish cultural studies through its original and deliberate examination of community; it is equally relevant to a more general reading public, interested in the diverse media covered here." "By the same token, this book is of relevance to scholars in the Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities, through its exploration and application of the ideas of theorists of modernity, space, and time."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book Synopsis Uncharted: The New Landscape of Tourism by : Juan Elvira
Download or read book Uncharted: The New Landscape of Tourism written by Juan Elvira and published by Actar D, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-02-25 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: UNCHARTED / New Landscapes of Tourism has a two-fold objective: to explore new avenues of thought in design teaching, and to do so through research that deals with new architectural landscapes that are linked to tourism. Publishing the Undergraduate Final Projects from IE University’s Undergraduate Architecture program responds to the desire to highlight the importance of design strategies in the process of reformulating the tourist offering within the framework of an open debate about new models for development. The infrastructural nature of architectural design imbues the architect’s creative capacity with the healthy ambition of transforming the territory into new landscapes for touristic opportunities. These new landscapes have been categorized here as productive, urban, industrial, extreme and reversible. UNCHARTED includes additional contributions on architecture, tourism and teaching by José Miguel Iribas, Elia Zenghelis and Eleni Gigantes.

Download or read book Viajeros, peregrinos y aventureros en el mundo antiguo written by Francisco Marco Simón and published by Edicions Universitat Barcelona. This book was released on 2010 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
