Book excerpt: Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca) is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and a very important but a complicated type of Ibadah (worship) as Mus-lims from all around the world get together to perform it together. They follow the interpretation of their Imams (jurists), so sometimes they look at others when they do not perform a specific virtue the way they do, then they think they are doing wrong, which is not so, but all of them are performing correctly according to the interpretation of their Imams. This book gives all these details in sequence according to all four imams the Muslim Ummah follows.

Book excerpt: At the beginning, in order to make it easier for the reader to follow the opinions of the five schools of fiqh about various aspects of Hajj, we shall briefly outline their sequence as ordained by the Shari'ah.The Hajj pilgrim coming from a place distant from Mecca assumes ihram1 from the miqat2 on his way, or from a point parallel to the closest miqat, and starts reciting the talbiyah.3 In this there is no difference between one performing `Umrah mufradahor any of the three types of Hajj (i.e. tamattu, ifrad, qiran). However, those who live within the haram4 of Mecca assume ihram from their houses.'5

This book was released on 2018-11-08 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is not the intent of this book to provide commentary to the whole of the Qur'an. What it does propose is to cover those areas of the Qur'an that will give the reader an awareness of the Islamic world's understanding of its relationship to the rest of the world and to the world's other religions. One would think there would be some grand plan for the writing of such a book. The truth is, it was ongoing discussions on Facebook that led to a two-year study to determine the truth of the matter. From this study came a correlated and transliterated copy of the Qur'an, which readers will be given the opportunity if they so wish to request a free copy. Who are the Muslims? What are their factions, how do they relate to the world and to one another? What is Shari'a law, and how does it equate to national and state laws? Is Shari'a law and therefore Islamic law compatible with western values? These are but some of the questions this book seeks to answer. About the Author William Merrifield graduated from the Oklahoma City Police Academy in 1974. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in "Professional Law Enforcement" from Oklahoma City University in 1977. He received a "Master of Divinity Degree" from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1980. He obtained a "Doctor of Ministry Degree" from Westminster Theological Seminary in 1992. His military schooling includes the Army War College where he received a "Masters of Strategic Studies" in July of 2002. He has been in the ministry as both a Southern Baptist Pastor and Chaplain, with over forty 40 years of service. He brings a wealth of experience to his writing. He has written several "White Papers" for the US Army, and doctrine for the US Army Chaplaincy. Since retiring, he has written three books, The Threat From Within, published by Tate Publishing, Who Do You Say I Am, Jesus Called the Christ, and Thoughts On Paul, both published by Christian Faith Publishing.

Book excerpt: In a narration of Imam Ahmad, Abu Dharr asked Prophet Muhammad, "O Messenger of Allah, how many are the prophets?" He replied, "120,000 and between their number are 315 messengers." The Holy Quran mentions twenty-five of these messengers, namely: Adam, Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, David, Solomon, Job, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Zacharia, John (the Baptist), Idris (Enoch), Jonah, Hud, Shu`ayb, Salih, Lot, Ilyas, Ilya`sa, Dhu 'l-Kifl, Jesus and Sayyidina Muhammad, peace be upon them all. These are the messengers of God who came with holy books containing the Divine Message. The others are prophets who received divine revelation but who were not ordered to deliver it to anyone; it was for them. By way of example, all of Jacob's sons were prophets, but Joseph was the only messenger from among them. Laboriously compiled from rare manuscripts, traditional Islamic texts, and other printed source material, including ahadith and athar and the many traditional books of history, and painstakingly translated from Ottoman Turkish to English, Lore of Light depicts the perfected, blessed character and refined manners that God bestowed on His blessed prophets and messengers. This illustrious work examines the lives of the prophets and messengers of God in great detail, heretofore unknown in English literature on their lives. It depicts the great lengths to which these holy figures went - at times losing life, suffering humiliation, torment and abuse from those who opposed them, often leaving their homes, always tolerant of their attackers and seeking peace - to guide the many peoples and nations of the world towards the light which God has sent throughout time for humankind's betterment and upliftment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'This book presents an invaluable contribution to the debate on the compatibility of Islam and modernity. It is full of arguments and examples showing how Islam can be understood in line with modern life, human rights, democracy, the rule of law, civil society and pluralism. The three authors come from different countries, represent different gender perspectives and have a Shia, a Sunni and a non-Muslim background respectively which makes the book a unique source of information and inspiration.' Irmgard Marboe, University of Vienna, Austria This well-informed book explains, reflects on and analyses Islamic law, not only in the classical legal tradition of Sharia, but also its modern, contemporary context. The book explores the role of Islamic law in secular Western nations and reflects on the legal system of Islam in its classical context as applied in its traditional homeland of the Middle East and also in South East Asia. Written by three leading scholars from three different backgrounds: a Muslim in the Sunni tradition, a Muslim in the Shia tradition, and a non-Muslim woman the book is not only unique, but also enriched by differing insights into Islamic law. Sir William Blair provides the foreword to a book which acknowledges that Islam continues to play a vital role not just in the Middle East but across the wider world, the discussion on which the authors embark is a crucial one. The book starts with an analysis of the nature of Islamic law, its concepts, meaning and sources, as well as its development in different stages of Islamic history. This is followed by accounts of how Islamic law is being practised today. Key modern institutions are discussed, such as the parliament, judiciary, dar al-ifta, political parties, and other important organizations. It continues by analysing some key concepts in our modern times: nation-state, citizenship, ummah, dhimmah (recognition of the status of certain non-Muslims in Islamic states), and the rule of law. The book investigates how in recent times, more and more fatwas are issued collectively rather than emanating from an individual scholar. The authors then evaluate how Islamic law deals with family matters, economics, crime, property and alternative dispute resolution. Lastly, the book revisits certain contemporary issues of debate in Islamic law such as the burqa, halal food, riba (interest) and apostasy. Modern Perspectives on Islamic Law will become a standard scholarly text on Islamic law. Its wide-ranging coverage will appeal to researchers and students of Islamic law, or Islamic studies in general. Legal practitioners will also be interested in the comparative aspects of Islamic law presented in this book.
