This book was released on 2010 with total page 722 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Web sites are an essential tool that every business must have in today s economy. Only 15 years ago, you could count the number of Web sites in the world with five or six digits; today there are between 15 and 30 billion active Web sites and millions more being added every day. Creating a Web site can be a great way to market a new product, promote your business plan, promote yourself, or simply share a few details about your life with the world. The cost of creating a Web site has risen right alongside the number of Web sites created though and many people are nervous about being able to utilise this revolutionary medium without breaking the bank. This book has been created for just such people, outlining for you in perfect detail everything you need to know to create a traffic attracting Web site, while spending little or no money at all. There are countless resources available, and when you put them all together, they provide a complete toolkit that can make anyone a top notch Web site in no time flat. You will learn how to buy a domain name and host your Web site for less than $15, with no additional fees charged to your account. You will learn how to use open source software like Wordpress, Joomla, and Mambo to create a platform on which you can build anything you want. You will learn how blogging has made Web site creation easier than ever and how sites like Squidoo, Facebook, and MySpace allow you more freedom to build traffic and draw more attention to what you are advertising at any given time. You will learn how to use common software to edit and tweak your Web sites and how to read the basic code that all Web sites are created in. In addition, an entire chapter is devoted to teaching you how to promote your Web site and draw traffic to it, without spending a dime in the process. You will learn why information is the most valuable asset on the market and how you can become an expert in a niche of your choosing, making money to cover any fees associated with your Web site. With the added resource of hours of interviews with web professionals you will learn which free resources not to use and which ones to outright avoid, as well as how to find and install open source modules and tools to enhance the look and feel of your site. You will learn where you can find copyright-free images to use on your Web sites and how to get free copy that will draw traffic and entertain your visitors. You will learn how to keep a free Web site from falling into the traps the major search engines set to stop spam and ultimately how to leverage new friends, business contacts, and interactions out of your Web site. If you are now, or have ever, considered starting your own Web site before, this book will map the way for you.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides rare insights into the difficult and complex dialogues between stakeholders within and outside the music industries in a time of transition. It builds on a series of recorded meetings in which key stakeholders discuss and assess options and considerations for the music industries’ transition to a digital era. These talks were closed to the public and operated under the Chatham House Rule, which means that they involved a very different type of discussion from those held in public settings, panels or conferences. As such, the book offers a much more nuanced understanding of the industries’ difficulties in adjusting to changing conditions, demonstrating the internal power-struggles and differences that make digital change so difficult. After presenting a theoretical framework for assessing digital change in the music industries, the author then provides his research findings, including quotes from the Kristiansand Roundtable Conference. Following from these findings, he develops three critical concepts that explain the nature as well as the problems of the music industries’ adaptation process. In conclusion, he challenges the general definition of crisis in the music industries and contradicts the widely held view that digitalization is a case of vertical integration.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the phenomenally successful new Tate Modern to the Dia:Beacon and Liverpool Biennial, contemporary visual art seems more than ever enmeshed in prominent public institutions and new forms of patronage, whether public commissions or corporate sponsorships. InArt, Money, Parties, renowned figures from the art world—including artists, dealers, and gallery owners—join scholars to consider these new institutional faces of contemporary art, their influence on art and artists, and how they affect the future of art. The essays in this collection, which originated at a conference organized by Tate Liverpool and the University of Liverpool, offer frequently contentious positions on the role of new institutions and patronage in the world of contemporary art. For example, while Liverpool Biennial director Lewis Biggs delivers a fairly optimistic assessment of the state of contemporary art, scholar Paul Usherwood unleashes a scathing critique of recent public art commissions. From opposing perspectives, gallery owner Sadie Coles reviews the history of her own involvement in the art world during the 1990s, and artist Stewart Home offers a sharply contrasting view of the value of the art produced in that decade. Rather than an attempt to craft a consensus, though, Art, Money, Parties is instead an effort to map out the position of—and possibilities for—contemporary art in a period of growing public sponsorship and attention. The vibrant, growing interest in contemporary art—evidenced by the success of the institutions under consideration—makesArt, Money, Partiesa timely and indispensable contribution to any debate on the present and future of art.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first history of keyboard improvisation in European music in the postclassical and romantic periods, Fantasies of Improvisation: Free Playing in Nineteenth-Century Music documents practices of improvisation on the piano and the organ, with a particular emphasis on free fantasies and other forms of free playing. Case studies of performers such as Abbé Vogler, J. N. Hummel, Ignaz Moscheles, Robert Schumann, Carl Loewe, and Franz Liszt describe in detail the motives, intentions, and musical styles of the nineteenth century's leading improvisers. Grounded in primary sources, the book further discusses the reception and valuation of improvisational performances by colleagues, audiences, and critics, which prompted many keyboardists to stop improvising. Author Dana Gooley argues that amidst the decline of improvisational practices in the first half of the nineteenth century there emerged a strong and influential "idea" of improvisation as an ideal or perfect performance. This idea, spawned and nourished by romanticism, preserved the aesthetic, social, and ethical values associated with improvisation, calling into question the supposed triumph of the "work."
