Book Synopsis Product Recall Guidelines by : British Retail Consortium
Download or read book Product Recall Guidelines written by British Retail Consortium and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2003 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Legislation places obligations on all those in the supply chain to ensure that only safe products are placed on the market. However, there will be occasions where mistakes occur or there are unforeseen circumstances that place the consumer at risk. Every year a significant number of products are withdrawn from the market , and in cases where the safety risk to the consumer is judged to be high, these result in product recalls. This publication provides practical guidance and advice on the key requirements for the product recall process, particularly to small and medium-sized companies who may lack experience in the handling of product safety issues. It is designed to assist the development of policies and plans that can be linked to detailed operational procedures, with the aim of providing improved consumer protection whilst minimising the commercial impact.

Book Synopsis The Moral Responsibility of Firms by : Eric W. Orts
Download or read book The Moral Responsibility of Firms written by Eric W. Orts and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Individuals are generally considered morally responsible for their actions. Who or what is responsible when those individuals become part of business organizations? Can we correctly ascribe moral responsibility to the organization itself? If so, what are the grounds for this claim and to what extent do the individuals also remain morally responsible? If not, does moral responsibility fall entirely to specific individuals within the organization and can they be readily identified? A perennial question in business ethics has concerned the extent to which business organizations can be correctly said to have moral responsibilities and obligations. In philosophical terms, this is a question of "corporate moral agency." Whether firms can be said to be moral agents and have the capacity for moral responsibility has significant practical consequences. In most legal systems in the world, business firms are recognized as "persons" with the ability to own property, to maintain and defend lawsuits, and to self-organize governance structures. However to recognize that these "business persons" can also act morally or immorally as organizations would justify the imposition of other legal constraints and normative expectations on organizations. In the criminal law, for example, the idea that an organized firm may itself have criminal culpability is accepted in many countries (such as the United States) but rejected in others (such as Germany). This book presents contributions by leading business scholars in business ethics, philosophy, and related disciplines to extend our understanding of the "moral responsibility" of firms.

Book excerpt: This paper is motivated by major food product recall events in recent years, especially how the timely and effective response using post-recall management can make a difference. We consider the rare but very influential major product recalls as disruptions to the supply chain and incorporate locating reprocessing centers for the returned products to mitigate expected operational costs. We adopt the closed loop network design framework and assume the location decisions for reprocessing center take place after the product recall events. Our scenario-based analysis shows the approach is effective in both absolute and relative measures.

Book Synopsis Global Supply Chain Quality Management by : Barbara B. Flynn
Download or read book Global Supply Chain Quality Management written by Barbara B. Flynn and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-11-21 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While there is substantial research surrounding manufacturing and design-related product hazards, little has been written about supply chain product hazards and how they impact supply chain quality management. Filling this need, Global Supply Chain Quality Management: Product Recalls and Their Impact draws together key insights and research findings from a global research project on product safety and recalls. The book presents detailed case studies of six extended global supply chains within three industries: toys, food, and pharmaceuticals. These case studies cover U.S. companies with supply chains that extend into China and provide the perspectives of both U.S. and Chinese executives. It includes coverage of several highly publicized product recalls, including Ford Pinto, Extra Strength Tylenol, melamine-tainted milk, Mattel, and Toyota. Presenting detailed examples of both poor and best practices, the text supplies firsthand accounts from key players in well-known product recalls. It outlines an event study methodology that can help readers determine the true financial impact of a product recall announcement. It also describes how to conduct controlled experiments to determine the effect of various recall strategies on consumers. The book describes how alternative product recall strategies can influence consumers' perception of your organization's corporate social legitimacy as well as their future purchasing behaviors. Although the text focuses on product quality within the supply chain, it also sheds light on other sources of product hazards—sharing a wide-ranging perspectives and current methodologies.
