Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many persons make myriad financial investments throughout their lives but, almost always, benefit far less from those investments than they could have had they known a little bit more. Had they known a little bit more about how the financial markets work, or a little bit more about the products/services they were investing in, or a little bit more about themselves, they could have made excellent use of their money. However, for many persons being okay feels okay, so as investors they feel no urge to be excellent. If you believe that mediocrity is okay, then this book is not for you. However, if you believe in being all you can be, whether you are in the army or not, then here we go...It took me six months of managing a small branch of a money transfer company in Britain, plus two and a half years of investing in the international financial markets, plus a Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) to become a sophisticated investor. However, now that I am one, I can tell you that you only need to take the following five steps in order to become one yourself. Step 1: Learn 4 golden principles of finance. Step 2: Get your feet wet. Step 3: Know yourself and know yourself well. Step 4: Learn how to build and manage your financial portfolio. Step 5: Let others do it for you but.It is important to note that those five steps are all in relation to your financial expenditures. Your entire financial portfolio actually includes the money you get in, how you get it, when you get it and so on. However, this book only covers how you give money out and what you should expect in return for that. For instance, you will be introduced to making stock investments in this book. However, how you will go about getting the money to actually make those investments is outside the scope of the steps given herein. Similarly, you will not learn how much debt is too much debt for your personal finances, or how to leverage extra hours of work each day, for extra income each month. Instead, you and I will go through principles, theories, and practices that sophisticated investors use to handle all their financial expenditures, including but not limited to: their working capital, which is the money they access and utilize on a regular basis; their savings, which is the money they put away to use in the future; and their investments, which is the money they use to make more money. In addition, this book introduces the OTPM. The OTPM is my personally created, financial asset pricing model, which captures a practical description of risk (which is also discussed in this book) and gives the type of expected return rates that will keep your financial objectives above what is available in the financial markets today. This is a good addition to your investing repertoire, since many investors tend to pull required returns from a hat, or simply want what they know is available. Learning to be a sophisticated investor means learning how to take control of your financial portfolio. How To Become A Sophisticated Investor therefore gives you 5 easy steps to do so!

Learn how to pick investment opportunities based on factual, trustworthy, publicly available, 3rd party information; as opposed to the conjecture and word-of-mouth marketing that usually accompanies ponzi schemes. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As you have probably noticed, there are quite a few investing books out there. Many of them were written by some of the world's greatest investors. So, why should you read our book? Stock investing is more prevalent than ever, whether directly or indirectly through brokerage accounts, exchange-traded funds, mutual funds, or retirement plans. Despite this, the vast majority of individual investors have no training on how to pick stocks. And, until now, there hasn't been a truly accessible, easy-to-understand resource available to help them. The Little Book of Investing Like the Pros was written to fill this void. We believe the simplicity and accessibility of our stock picking framework is truly unique. Using real-world examples and actual Wall Street models used by the pros, we teach you how to pick stocks in a highly accessible, step-by-step manner. Our goal is straightforward—to impart the skills necessary for finding high-quality stocks while protecting your portfolio with risk management best practices. Our practical approach is designed to help demystify the investing process, which can be intimidating. This training will help set you apart from others who are largely flying blind. Pilots require extensive training before receiving a license. Doctors must graduate medical school, followed by a multi-year residency. Even those providing professional investment advice require certification. But, anyone can buy a stock without any training whatsoever. While buying stocks on a hunch and a prayer may not endanger your life, it can certainly put your finances at risk.

Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to demonstrate that becoming a successful do-it-yourself (DIY) investor is within the reach of almost every person in society. Saving or investing in the stock markets is for everyone - from parents with the children's allowance, to someone who has a lump sum to invest, to the person who has just started working but can save even 100 a month, to someone who is free to manage their own pension. Building an asset base from which you can earn income gives you choices later in life. The aim is that, when you close this book, you should be able to implement an easy-to-follow approach to investing in the stock markets, whilst minimising risk. No matter what level of experience you are starting from, this book is aimed at assisting you to obtain the returns on offer from the markets over time. Arming yourself with a proper strategy or plan, which dictates what you buy and when you sell, is the key to stock market investing, and developing one is a good deal easier than you may think. That plan might be simply to invest across the different asset classes where there appears to be clear value on offer; to concentrate on high yielding funds listed on stock markets as a method of generating income, while controlling risk; or to master some successful approach to stock selection. 3 Steps to Investment Success offers an easy-to-follow mechanical approach to selecting a diversified portfolio of stocks from the UK FTSE 100 Index, an index that represents the 100 largest companies listed on the London Stock Exchange by market capitalisation. You will learn also how to invest in the stock market indirectly through listed funds, such as exchange-traded funds and investment companies, which offer instant diversification, allowing you to more easily control risk. And 3 Steps to Investment Success includes a short story, A Villa in the Sun by Virginia Gilbert, a BAFTA-nominated, award-winning writer and director, to drive home the often real consequences of speculating in markets rather than investing.

Book excerpt: A market beating method for finding success in trading stocks Value is a concept that frequently eludes investors -- especially when it comes to stocks. In many cases, successfully identifying value can make the difference between picking a winner and getting burned. The Value Connection offers a systematic and doable method investors can use to take advantage of value in the stock market. Based on author Marc Gerstein's "Value Connection" method, this book will show investors how to find potentially attractive value connections, analyze specific situations to see if the value connection is sound, buy the best value connected opportunities, and sell stocks for which the value connection has weakened. The proven four-step method outlined -- which allows investors to understand the relationship between a company and its stock -- will help any investor screen the stock market for the best values out there. Real world examples make understanding this revolutionary investing method easy. Marc H. Gerstein (New York, NY) is the Director of Investment Research at Multex. Prior to that, he was in the research and editorial department at Value Line. Over the course of two decades he analyzed stocks across a wide variety of industries and sectors, including household products, specialty retail, restaurants, mining, energy, hotel/gaming, homebuilding, airlines, railroads, and media. Gerstein appears periodically on CNNfn, Bloomberg TV, and is often quoted in USA Today, CBS MarketWatch, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Daily News, and Money Online. He is also the author of Screening the Market (0-471-21559-7).
