As the walls close in, the line between truth and lie, reality and delusion disintegrate. Has Sienna’s worst nightmare come true? Or will she unmask a killer and finally prove she may be her mother’s look-alike, but she’s not her clone?

Book Synopsis You Look Like That Girl by : Lisa Jakub
Download or read book You Look Like That Girl written by Lisa Jakub and published by Beaufort Books. This book was released on 2015-06-15 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the age of twenty-two, Lisa Jakub had what she was supposed to want: she was a working actor in Los Angeles. She had more than forty movies and TV shows to her name, she had been in blockbusters like Mrs. Doubtfire and Independence Day, she walked the red carpet and lived in the house she bought when she was fifteen. But something was missing. Passion. Purpose. Happiness.Lisa had been working since the age of four, after a man approached her parents at a farmer’s market and asked her to audition for a commercial. That chance encounter dictated the next eighteen years of her unusual— and frequently awkward—life. She met Princess Diana... and almost fell on her while attempting to curtsy. She filmed in exciting locations... and her high school asked her not to come back. She went to fancy parties... and got kind of kidnapped that one time. Success was complicated.Making movies, traveling the world, and meeting intriguing people was fun for a while, but Lisa eventually realized she was living a life based on momentum and definitions of success that were not her own. She battled severe anxiety and panic attacks while feeling like she was living someone else’s dream. Not wanting to become a child actor stereotype, Lisa retired from acting and left L.A. in search of a path that felt more authentic to her.In this funny and insightful book, Lisa chronicles the adventures of growing up in the film industry and her difficult decision to leave behind the only life she had ever known, to examine her priorities, and write the script for her own life. She explores the universal question we all ask ourselves: what do I want to be when I grow up?

Book excerpt: The Look-Alike By: Joseph A. Levy Michael Biton is a young, ambitious law student. He has completed his first year at Brooklyn Law School, and everything is going perfectly for him as he is doing an internship with the City of New York. Suddenly out of nowhere, he gets identified, arrested and subsequently indicted for a rape that he insists he did not commit. His future, which had been unlimited, now becomes uncertain as he must pay a lot of money to a high-profile criminal defense lawyer, while at the same time deal with an arrogant, overzealous prosecutor who is determined to convict him at any cost. As he awaits trial, he starts to find out that there are many weird aspects to the case and that it is raising a lot of questions for which there are no answers. He also finds out that there is a person who looks exactly like him who attends the same law school and who worked in the same building as he. The Look-Alike is more than just a legal thriller. It is an intense, personal drama about Michael Biton getting a legal education – an education far different from the casebook law that he has been getting in law school. It is a book that will leave you guessing to the very end.

This book was released on 2011-02-28 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Producing still life artwork can be a satisfying experience, as the artist is easily able to paint from life without the pressures of the shifting light or inclement weather. Not only that, any object can be selected, shifted about or the light source modified at will, meaning the artist has complete control over what lies in front. But challenges are certain to present themselves during the journey. Examples might be why ellipses end up looking like doughnuts, why porcelain looks more like clay or why fruit looks plastic. Some of these challenges may prove more difficult than others and unchecked, might cause a creative block. This is where this book comes in. With down to earth advice on common practices at fault, each issue is tackled in-depth: a diagnostic of the problem, suggested solutions in the form of recommended art materials and remedial painting exercises. In total, twenty-six common Speeves associated with still life painting are tackled within this book. In six clear sections, a myriad of other matters relating to still life painting are explained, such as how to paint textures in food, composing a still life, colour mixing, lighting an arrangement and a section on the essentials of oil painting, in total, with over 100 full colour illustrations and twenty diagrams. If the problem sought after is not in this book, it might be in one of my other Oil Painting Medic books within this series due to come out in 2011 and 2012.List of chapters in this book:1. Book Synopsis What the World Might Look Like by : Susie O’Brien
Download or read book What the World Might Look Like written by Susie O’Brien and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2024-05-14 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of resilience is everywhere these days, offering a framework for thriving in volatile times. Dominant resilience stories share an attachment to a mythologized past thought to hold clues for navigating a future that is understood to be full of danger. These stories also uphold values of settler colonialism and white supremacy. What the World Might Look Like examines the way resilience thinking has come to dominate the settler-colonial imagination and explores alternative approaches to resilience writing that instead offer decolonial models of thought. The book traces settler-colonial resilience stories to the rise of resilience science in the 1970s and 1980s, illustrating how the discipline supports the projects of white supremacy and colonialism. Working to unravel the blanket of common sense that shrouds the idea of resilience, the book is equally cautious of settler-colonial antiresilience stories that invoke the idea of death as an antidote to unbearable life. Susie O’Brien argues that, although the dominant narratives of resilience are problematic, resilience itself is neither inherently good nor inherently bad. Appreciating the significance of resilience stories requires asking what worlds and what communities they are meant to preserve. Looking at the fiction of Alexis Wright, David Chariandy, and Leanne Betasamosake Simpson, O’Brien points to the potential of Black and Indigenous thinking around resilience to figure decolonial possibilities for planetary flourishing. Exposing the complexities and limits of resilience, What the World Might Look Like questions the concept of resilience, highlighting how Black and Indigenous novelists can offer different decolonial ways of thinking about and with resilience to imagine things “otherwise.”
