Book excerpt: Hard times mean hard choices, but falling for Noah Wilder is easy. Beneath his suit and tie, he’s seriously inked and seriously irresistible. When he walks into the Hot Ink Tattoo Studio, the attraction between him and studio receptionist Zoe is mutual – and fierce. And after the opportunity to ditch her demeaning second job to work for him instead arises, suddenly he’s her boss … and much more. With lines blurred in every way imaginable, can she balance passion and professionalism with doing what’s best for her struggling family? Attraction is a powerful thing. So is former fighter Noah’s drive to make his growing mixed martial arts promotion company succeed, and if business happens to coincide with pleasure, so much the better. Tattooed beauty Zoe Ramsey is all his when she’s not working at Hot Ink – for twenty hours a week, anyway. When circumstances bring them close faster than they ever imagined, can he make her see that he’s just as serious about her as he is about the business he’s poured his heart and soul into? Book excerpt: Mina never meant to fall for her sexy tattoo artist, Eric, or to become a model. But when she’s asked to pose in a photo shoot for the Hot Ink tattoo studio, she can’t say no. She finally gets a look at Eric’s tattoos when they’re cajoled into posing together, and in a few breathtaking moments, an on-camera kiss turns the passion they’re asked to fake into something very real, leaving them both wanting more. The only problem is that Mina’s not the glamour girl she looks like on the Hot Ink posters, or even in a tattoo magazine. She’s only twenty-four, but being the sole guardian of her disabled younger sister has left her feeling much older. Will Eric still be interested when he gets to know the girl behind the ink and the make-up and finds out that she and her little sister are a package deal? Curvy, vivacious Karen is everything Jed would want in a woman, if he wanted one at all. But a relationship seems like too dangerous a gamble for someone who’s loved before and suffered the ultimate loss. So why can’t he resist when he discovers the attraction is mutual? Even if he were willing to risk everything again, Karen’s too young, too full of life to be burdened with someone whose heart bears scars as permanent as the ink in his skin. Book Synopsis Reverberations of Silence by : Márta Pellérdi
Download or read book Reverberations of Silence written by Márta Pellérdi and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-11 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether a conscious choice or constraint, silence has always been the result of oppression, censorship, trauma, and mental or physical handicap. Its provocative and mysterious nature has always motivated readers and critics towards interpretation. The present volume offers to read and interpret silence – unexpressed emotions, thoughts, hesitations and gestures – on mainly a textual and verbal level. How is the pervasive presence of silence explained in literature and linguistics? The collected scholarly essays in this volume offer a wide range of answers. The majority of the writings are literary critical in nature, focusing on major and less well-known literary texts from the Renaissance until the twentieth century. The authors approach the works of Spenser, Shakespeare, Shelley, Dickinson, Wright, Auster, Tan and Ishiguro among others, as well as less well-known, silent or silenced authors and their texts with equal dedication. Other essays included in the volume either deal with the problem of translating gaps and hiatuses or focus on capturing the phenomenon of silence in speech, through analyzing ellipsis, emptiness and hesitations in spoken language. The controversial and manifold aspects of silence are captured and interpreted in this volume.
Download or read book Conflicts written by Edward de Bono and published by Random House. This book was released on 2018-11-01 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Think, don't fight. In today’s world we use an out of date thinking system to navigate our way through modern society, especially when it comes to conflicts and disagreements. Conflicts argues that instead of our age old system of debate we should adopt what de Bono calls a ‘design idiom’ and use lateral thinking to navigate a feud. If two parties think their argument is best, we should be introducing a third party role. De Bono explains how this concept of triangular thinking and map making is the way forward. By highlighting how the current system holds us back and offering practical alternatives De Bono paves the way for a fundamental shift in conflict resolution.
