Download or read book Ballade am Strom: Historischer Roman written by Roland Betsch and published by Musaicum Books. This book was released on 2017-10-16 with total page 831 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis The Poetics of Shadows: The Double in Literature and Philosophy by : Andrew Hock Soon Ng
Download or read book The Poetics of Shadows: The Double in Literature and Philosophy written by Andrew Hock Soon Ng and published by ibidem-Verlag / ibidem Press. This book was released on 2012-02-24 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays in this collection attest to the richness of the double motif in literature and philosophy. Veering away from predominantly psychoanalytical readings of narratives which foreground the double (or doppelganger), which have formed the basis of much scholarly discussions of this motif, the contributions in this volume privilege divergent philosophical leanings - ranging from Rousseau to Kierkegaard, from Christian philosophy to Eastern mysticism - to elicit the layered nuances and signifiers of this elusive motif. Narratives interrogated in this collection include the works of Dickens, Blanchot, Edmund Jabés, Orhan Pamuk, Chuck Palahniuk and Don Delillo, among others.

It highlights the motives, secrets, and plot twists— what’s really going on and what its narrative shows. The Annotated Ring Cycle includes newly created graphic-novel style illustrations that visually represent the storyline alongside full color photos of classic artwork by Arthur Rackham, Howard Pyle, Aubrey Beardsley, the 1876 costume and set designs, and much more.
Book Synopsis The Book of Hours by : Rainer Maria Rilke
Download or read book The Book of Hours written by Rainer Maria Rilke and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2024-08-13 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A gorgeous new translation of one of the strongest inaugural works in twentieth century poetry. Long hailed as a masterwork of modern German literature, The Book of Hours (1905) marks the origin of Rainer Maria Rilke’s distinctive voice and vision—where clarity of diction meets unexpected imagery and first-person poetry discovers its full lyric possibility. In these audacious poems, a devout but candid speaker addresses an ultimately unknowable deity, passing through love, fear, guilt, anger, bewilderment, loneliness, tenderness, and exaltation in his search for meaning. In this dual-language edition, Edward Snow, “the most trustworthy and exhilarating of Rilke’s contemporary translators” (Michael Dirda, Washington Post), makes Rilke’s achievement accessible as never before in English. Snow retains a striking fidelity to the German text while also conveying the captivating psychological presence that animates Rilke’s best poems.
Book Synopsis Rainer Maria Rilke's The Book of Hours by : Rainer Maria Rilke
Download or read book Rainer Maria Rilke's The Book of Hours written by Rainer Maria Rilke and published by Camden House. This book was released on 2008 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Book of hours, written in three bursts between 1899-1903, is Rilke's most formative work, covering a crucial period in his rapid ascent from fin-de-siecle epigone to distinctive modern voice. The poems are crucial documents of Rilke's development, from his tour around Russia with Lou Andreas-Salome, through his hasty marriage to Clara Westhoff in the artists' community of Worpswede, to his turn toward the urban modernity of Paris. Rilke assumes the persona of an artist-monk undertaking the Romantics' journey into the self, speaking to God as part transcendent deity, part needy neighbor. Echoes of his juvenile style persist, yet by the end of the book the influence of the sculptor Rodin is discernible in the distinctive idiom of urbanity, in the terminology of "things," and in Rilke's turn to the everyday world around him."--Jacket flap.
Book Synopsis Writing the Mountains by : Jens Klenner
Download or read book Writing the Mountains written by Jens Klenner and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2024-05-16 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Writing the Mountains reconsiders the role of mountains in German language fiction from 1800 to the present and argues that in a range of texts, from E.T.A. Hoffmann's “Die Bergwerke zu Falun” (1819) to Elfriede Jelinek's Die Kinder der Toten (1995) and beyond, mountains serve as dynamic spaces of material change that generate aesthetic and narrative innovation. In contrast to dominant critical approaches to the Alpine landscape in literature, in which mountain ranges often features as passive settings, or which trace the influence of geographical and geological sciences in literary productions, this study argues for the dynamic role in literature of presumably rigid mineral structures. In German-language fiction after 1800, the counter-intuitive topology of rocky mountain ranges and unfathomable subterranean depths of the Alpine imaginary functions as a space of exception which appears to reconfirm and radically challenge the foundations of Enlightenment thought. Writing the Mountains reads the mountain range as a rigid yet permeable liminal space. Within this zone, semiotic orders are unsettled, as is the division between organic and inorganic, between the human and the other.
