Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You can look at this annotated poetry collection as meta-fiction that aims to present a writer's struggles, experiments, and successes with poetry. It is the good, the bad, and the incredibly awful, presented to the reader without a single form of censorship. All of the poems have been left in their raw, natural form. Every poem the author wrote between 2008 and 2012 has been published in this book, regardless of whether or not it was finished, or holds itself together grammatically. All though, maybe it is just that the author thought it would be a waste to not publish them. Imagine all the pointless hours and the vain effort if they had stayed buried in a random Dropbox folder somewhere. How rude that would have been.

Book excerpt: A decade ago, my mom was diagnosed with cancer. She was vivacious and selfless and joyful, and cancer took her from me. But it was not just the disease; it was intense medical malpractice and negligence, a case that should have garnered millions of dollars in lawsuits but could never bring back the person I loved most.We fought for her for months, and right until the end, we did everything we could to save her from the disease and the medical mistakes that were slowly killing her. This memoir should serve as the story of my family, the fraying threads in a tapestry that held together at all costs, but also as a guide for anyone who needs to fight for the person they love. This book is dedicated to all the patients, families, loved ones, friends, nurses, doctors, lab technicians, x-ray technicians, aids, and everyone who finds themselves either working in or needing help from an imperfect system.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fifth collection of poems, titled "Reflections," comprising one hundred poems of Dr. Ashok T. Chakravarthy, primarily concentrate on key universal issues of concern. The poems promote welfare-oriented universal concepts viz., universal peace and brotherhood, protection of environment, concern for nature, care for children rights, the priceless feelings for a mother and so on. The poet's quest for world peace is focused in quite a number of poems, and the feelings that peace remains an essential imperative to be inculcated in world citizens. Despite disappointments and conflicts still existing elsewhere, the poet takes it as his moral duty to promote his chosen concepts on environment protection, children welfare, nature and so on. The task to promote and protect universal culture does not lag behind. His thirst to contribute the best of poetry to safeguard universal values, ideologies, and religions is visible in his poems and stokes serene feelings in every reader. These recurring aspirations in the poet's thoughts and in particular the incessant longing to express them through poetry compositions is worth a rare phenomenon which ought to be recognized as a rare poetic talent. Most of the verses of Dr. Ashok T. Chakravarthy are literary kits that give good rhythm when tuned to music for enlivening the lyrical philosophy. The poet's pursuit to strengthen the ideals of peace in every world citizen, every nation and in every peace-yearning youth have carved a niche in the hearts of several citizens across the world. This particular volume invites a strong literary debate that will upsurge the advocacy for the changes it strives to uphold across global boundaries.

But while the last few decades have produced excellent studies of individual emotions and the different approaches to them by the major philosophical schools, the focus has been almost entirely on negative emotions. This might give the impression that the Greeks and Romans had little to say about positive emotion, something that would be misguided. As the chapters in this collection indicate, there are representations of positive emotions extending from archaic Greek poetry to Augustine, and in both philosophical works and literary genres as wide-ranging as lyric poetry, forensic oratory, comedy, didactic poetry, and the novel. Nor is the evidence uniform: while many of the literary representations give expression to positive emotion but also describe its loss, the philosophers offer a more optimistic assessment of the possibilities of attaining joy or contentment in this life. The positive emotions show some of the same features that all emotions do. But unlike the negative emotions, which we are able to describe and analyze in great detail because of our preoccupation with them, positive emotions tend to be harder to articulate. Hence the interest of the present study, which considers how positive emotions are described, their relationship to other emotions, the ways in which they are provoked or upset by circumstances, how they complicate and enrich our relationships with other people, and which kinds of positive emotion we should seek to integrate. The ancient works have a great deal to say about all of these topics, and for that reason deserve more study, both for our understanding of antiquity and for our understanding of the positive emotions in general.

Book excerpt: Can God be good when life is not? Rediscover faith in the character, power, and presence of God. Even in the questions. Even in the hurt. "I want to believe, I want to have hope, but . . ." Pastor and bestselling author Craig Groeschel hears these words often and has asked them himself. We want to know God, feel his presence, and trust that he hears our prayers, but in the midst of great pain, we may wonder if he really cares about us. Even when we have both hope and hurt, sometimes it's the hurt that shouts the loudest. In Hope in the Dark, Groeschel explores the story of the father who brought his demon-possessed son to Jesus, saying, "I believe! Help my unbelief!" In the man's sincere plea, Jesus heard the tension in the man's battle-scarred heart. He healed not only the boy but the father too, driving out the hopelessness that had overtaken him. He can do the same for us today. As Groeschel shares his pain surrounding the health challenges of his daughter, he acknowledges the questions we may ask in our own deepest pain: "Where was God when I was being abused?" "Why was my child born with a disability?" "Why did the cancer come back?" "Why are all my friends married and I'm alone?" He invites us to wrestle with such questions as we ask God to honor our faith and heal our unbelief. Because in the middle of your profound pain, you long for authentic words of understanding and hope. You long to know that even in overwhelming reality, you can still believe that God is good. Hope in the Dark is also available in Spanish, Esperanza en la Oscuridad.
