Book excerpt: An exploration of identity and faith, Seeing Through the Fog invites readers to a vibrant life, an expectant life, a life of joy in each new morning. Pastor Ed Dobson has spent his life preaching sermons, but this book is not a sermon. He has spent more than ten years with a debilitating illness, but this book is not about grief. He has found joy in the midst of sorrow, but this book is not about looking on the bright side. Seeing Through the Fog is about living well when you realize you can’t live forever. It is about having gratitude for each sunrise, birthday, and moment of knowing God more. It is about holding hope when circumstances hold pain. With stories, wisdom and unique content distinct from the popular film series about Ed, Seeing Through the Fog will encourage readers in their own difficulties and give them hope for their future.
Book Synopsis Destination Hope: A Travel Companion When Life Falls Apart by : Marilyn Nutter
Download or read book Destination Hope: A Travel Companion When Life Falls Apart written by Marilyn Nutter and published by Ambassador International. This book was released on 2021-09-28 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Destination Hope: A Travel Companion When Life Falls Apart offers camaraderie and a beacon of hope for women who feel alone in loss, struggle, or change of circumstance. This book is not a self-help book filled with platitudes from people who think they have life figured out. Instead, Marilyn Nutter and April White link arms with the audience and encourage their readers through stories of their personal challenges in widowhood and chronic illness. Women are encouraged to see loss and hardship as part of life’s journey and are reminded to turn their gaze upwards, to the Provider of Hope. Within the pages of Destination Hope comes a sisterhood, a bond, that is formed only through the mutual understanding of loss and the need to find hope in hard times. Destination Hope is arranged into six chapters called Milepost Markers, which address various losses, disappointments, or obstacles. Each entry concludes with a Rest Area for reflection and journaling. A Postcard with a quotation related to the topic sends readers off with an encouraging word, as they travel on towards their destination hope.
Book Synopsis From Hope to Hatred by : Andrew Walsh
Download or read book From Hope to Hatred written by Andrew Walsh and published by The History Press. This book was released on 2013-05-01 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Falls Curfew of 3-5 July 1970 is considered by many to be the turning point in Catholic-Army relations throughout Northern Ireland and Belfast in particular, and ultimately led to Catholic alienation from the state. The curfew was intended to dispel the violence, it lasted 36 hours during which 4 people were killed, at least 75 were wounded (including 15 soldiers) and 337 people were arrested.Allegations of army brutality towards Catholics and destruction of property have also popularised this belief. However, the seeds of Catholic mistrust were sown decades before. The partition of Ireland in 1922, the subsequent Unionist domination of government and the ignorance of the British government towards the province, ensured that it was only a matter of time that the initial welcome for the army in 1969 faded. This is the story of the Falls Curfew, its causes, and the subsequent polarisation of a community under siege. It is a story many wish could be forgotten, but its legacy still lives on.

Book Synopsis The Bears of Brooks Falls: Wildlife and Survival on Alaska's Brooks River by : Michael Fitz
Download or read book The Bears of Brooks Falls: Wildlife and Survival on Alaska's Brooks River written by Michael Fitz and published by The Countryman Press. This book was released on 2021-03-09 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A natural history and celebration of the famous bears and salmon of Brooks River. On the Alaska Peninsula, where exceptional landscapes are commonplace, a small river attracts attention far beyond its scale. Each year, from summer to early fall, brown bears and salmon gather at Brooks River to create one of North America’s greatest wildlife spectacles. As the salmon leap from the cascade, dozens of bears are there to catch them (with as many as forty-three bears sighted in a single day), and thousands of people come to watch in person or on the National Park Service’s popular Brooks Falls Bearcam. The Bears of Brooks Falls tells the story of this region and the bears that made it famous in three parts. The first forms an ecological history of the region, from its dormancy 30,000 years ago to the volcanic events that transformed it into the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes. The central and longest section is a deep dive into the lives of the wildlife along the Brooks River, especially the bears and salmon. Readers will learn about the bears’ winter hibernation, mating season, hunting rituals, migration patterns, and their relationship with Alaska’s changing environment. Finally, the book explores the human impact, both positive and negative, on this special region and its wild population.
