Book excerpt: Picking up where "HK LAB" left off, "HK LAB 2" brings together artist projects and a number of theoretical and critical viewpoints on Hong Kong interior spaces. Conceived as a polycentric book, where a number of themes come together--private-public use, use-exchange, space-time, local-global, prescribed-interim use and control-deviation--the highly visual "HK LAB 2" deals with the changing nature of urban experience and inhabition. Expressed in extreme and spectacular ways, or in a gradual and less visible fashion, the acts of building, decorating, furnishing, using, transforming and repressing interiors shown here convey meanings about the reciprocal relationships between people and their spaces.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary Chinese art is nowadays a subject area widely taught and researched in academic and nonacademic publications, but it has not yet been studied by 'localizing' the research in specific cultural areas within the Chinese world. Selecting Hong Kong for a first such study was an obvious choice, since Hong Kong culture has had for already quite a long time very specific features which have put it apart from the generally accepted definition of Chinese national culture. Although it is not a survey of 'Hong Kong art,' as such a study would demand many more books, the works of about eighty artists working in Hong Kong (and sometimes outside) have been analyzed and contextualized in these pages.

Book Synopsis On Asian Streets and Public Space by : Hee Limin
Download or read book On Asian Streets and Public Space written by Hee Limin and published by NUS Press. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid urbanization of the Asian continent and transformation of its cityscapes have incited many professionals and scholars to pay urgent attention to the study of Asian streets and public spaces in the hope of recording them, learning from their complex nature, and even applying distilled principles in new environments before they disappear under the assault of rapid urban transformation. This volume presents articles focusing on four prevalent themes, namely transformation and modernity, the culture of streets, experiencing the street and finally, design and quality of streets. However, these themes inevitably overlap, pointing out again the complexity of what we call the "street" and the necessity for interdisciplinary research. Finally, adding "Asian" to "street" opens up the discussion about spaces in the Asian city, and even concepts of "Asian-ness", if indeed such a concept can be defined. Believing in the importance of understanding "Asian streets" and "streets" in general for future design and planning of our cities, this collection of essays encourages greater interest in this subject, and therefore more interdisciplinary research. Accordingly, this book should interest not only urban planners, architects and other design and building professionals, but also environmentalists, sociologists, anthropologists, geographers and historians as well as the general public.

Book Synopsis Classical and Modern Approaches in the Theory of Mechanisms by : Nicolae Pandrea
Download or read book Classical and Modern Approaches in the Theory of Mechanisms written by Nicolae Pandrea and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-03-24 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classical and Modern Approaches in the Theory of Mechanisms is a study of mechanisms in the broadest sense, covering the theoretical background of mechanisms, their structures and components, the planar and spatial analysis of mechanisms, motion transmission, and technical approaches to kinematics, mechanical systems, and machine dynamics. In addition to classical approaches, the book presents two new methods: the analytic-assisted method using Turbo Pascal calculation programs, and the graphic-assisted method, outlining the steps required for the development of graphic constructions using AutoCAD; the applications of these methods are illustrated with examples. Aimed at students of mechanical engineering, and engineers designing and developing mechanisms in their own fields, this book provides a useful overview of classical theories, and modern approaches to the practical and creative application of mechanisms, in seeking solutions to increasingly complex problems.
Book Synopsis Gas-Phase Photoprocesses by : Anatoly Pravilov
Download or read book Gas-Phase Photoprocesses written by Anatoly Pravilov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-02-22 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides details of the basic frameworks and characteristics of processes occurring in electronically excited states of small molecules, complexes, and clusters. It discusses the perturbations in electronically excited valence states of molecules induced by intramolecular interaction and intermolecular interactions, which occur in collisions and optically populated, weakly bound complexes. Further, it describes the kinetics and mechanisms of photoprocesses in simple molecules and recombination accompanied by radiation. The book also offers information on general kinetics for gas-phase processes and basic theoretical frameworks for elementary processes. It features many useful problems, making it a valuable resource for students and researchers in molecular spectroscopy/molecular physics and chemical physics/physical chemistry.
