Book Synopsis Nationhood and Politicization of History in School Textbooks by : Gorana Ognjenović

This book was released on 2020-02-15 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how school history textbooks are used to perpetuate nationalistic policies within divided regions. Exploring the ‘divide and rule’ politics across ex-Yugoslav successor states, the editors and contributors draw upon a wide range of case studies from across the region. Textbooks and other educational media provide the foundations upon which the new generation build understanding about their own context and the events that are creating their present. By promoting nationalistic politics in such media, textbooks themselves can be used as tools to further promote and preserve ongoing hostility between ethnic groups following periods of conflict. This edited collection will appeal to scholars of educational media, history education and post-conflict societies.

Book Synopsis 80 Old Testament Characters of World History: Chronological, Historical and Archaeological Evidence by : Gerard Gertoux
Download or read book 80 Old Testament Characters of World History: Chronological, Historical and Archaeological Evidence written by Gerard Gertoux and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-02-27 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the fact that the name of many characters mentioned in the Old Testament, like David, King of Israel, have been recently confirmed by archaeology as well as their epoch and the events in which they were involved, most archaeologists continue to deny the historicity of the Bible they view as pious fiction or a mythical account. They argue that the major events in the Bible such as the victory of Abraham against Chedorlaomer, an unknown king of Elam around 2000 BCE, the victory of Moses against an unknown Pharaoh around 1500 BCE or the victory of Esther, an unknown Persian Queen, against an unknown vizier of Xerxes, never existed because they left absolutely no evidence. They also explain that according to what we know today, these events could not have occurred. These logical arguments are impressive but a precise chronological analysis based on absolute dates, coupled with a rigorous historical investigation, shows that all those major events really took place at the dates and places indicated.

Book Synopsis Correctly Handling the Word of Truth by : Mees te Velde
Download or read book Correctly Handling the Word of Truth written by Mees te Velde and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2014-10-24 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How should the Word of God be interpreted and applied today? Does our modern culture affect how we read the Bible? Can certain passages be interpreted in different contexts and in different ways, all the while acknowledging that God speaks with a clear and consistent voice? These are the enduring challenges of hermeneutics. In this volume, no less than sixteen Reformed scholars from four different countries join together to tackle the hard questions that often arise when we busy ourselves with the weighty responsibility of interpreting Holy Scripture. As iron sharpens iron, so also these Reformed scholars challenge each other and their readers to ask not only how hermeneutics can be done, but ultimately, how it should be done so that God's Word of Truth may be handled correctly (2 Tim 2:15).
Book Synopsis Historical Discourse by : Caroline Coffin
Download or read book Historical Discourse written by Caroline Coffin and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Historical Discourse analyses the importance of the language of time, cause and evaluation in both texts which students at secondary school are required to read, and their own writing for assessment. In contrast to studies which have denied that history has a specialised language, Caroline Coffin demonstrates through a detailed study of historical texts, that writing about the past requires different genres, lexical and grammatical structures. In this analysis, language emerges as a powerful tool for making meaning in historical writing. Presupposing no prior knowledge of systemic functional linguistics, this insightful book will be of interest to researchers in applied linguistics and discourse analysis, as well as history educators.
