This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Sherman Act and the New Anti-Trust Legislation It was pointed out that with the gradual narrowing of the older common - law definition of restraint of trade as any voluntary restraint put by an individual on his right to carry on his trade, and the accompanying broadening of the original technical mean ing of monopoly so as to include engrossing, the two concepts restraint of trade and monopoly came to be blended. Interpreting the statute, then, as using common-law phrases with a common law meaning, it was held that its first section, declaring contracts, combinations, and conspiracies in restraint of trade illegal, and its second section, making it illegal to monopolize or to attempt to monopolize any part of interstate trade or commerce, are mutually explanatory. Undoubtedly, said the court, the words 'to monopolize' and 'to attempt to monopolize' as used in the section reach every act bringing about the prohibited results.
