If, in acceding to a request for thelr publication, I can reach others than those to whom they were addressed, and I can be instrumental thereby, even in the slightest degree, in promoting a love of our free institutions and a patriotic desire for the preservation and perpetuation of our system of constitutional liberty, the publica tion will not have been in vain.
