The Secretary of State's office at Columbia, the old Will Books and County Records in Marion Court House, a few old family Bibles, from which many dates and names have been supplied, and from some brief mention made of the family by historians of the localities to which the early settlers belonged. The narratives of the various collateral lines which will receive notice have been based on similar records furnished by members of respective families or fro-m my own researches. The main facts thus collected have been enlarged as far as possible and supplied with the traditions and legends which were cherished by the first comers, to be handed down from father to son to this day. Diligence in research has added to the knowledge thus acquired many other interesting facts which carry us back far beyond the advent of Nathaniel Evans in the New World, or the occasion and manner of his coming, and give us a glimpse of his native land and of the sturdy Welsh stock from which he sprung.
