Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the most comprehensive collection of Chilean statistics ever published and deals with central government, general government, and public sector data in the period from 1800 to 1988. Consisting of five major sections, the study provides a systematic and up-to-date presentation, description, and methodological analysis of 498 tables of statistics and related qualitative evidence on all aspects of Chilean government. No comparable collection of public sector statistics exists at present, and many of the statistics found in this thoroughly researched study have not been previously published or are not easily available elsewhere. The book includes an in-depth analysis of the nature, structure, and impact of the Chilean central government, general government, and public sector. It offers a penetrating look at the relationship between public sector revenues and expenditures, and the production of collective, semi-public, and private commodities and their components. This extraordinarily detailed reference outlines the role of the Chilean State in shaping the development and expected return of Chile to democracy. It clarifies the factors that contributed to Chile's decline under Allende; it outlines the neo-liberal policies of Pinochet; and it discusses the revolution in peace of Eduardo Frei. This work will be an invaluable addition in the study of South America, Chilean history, government, politics, and economics.

Download or read book The Structuralist Theory of Inflation and Structural Inflation in Chile, 1950-1972 written by Jorge David Dresdner C. and published by Coronet Books. This book was released on 1990 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study investigates the agricultural bottenleneck hypothesis of the structuralist inflation approach. It presents a consistent model of inflation based on the main assumptions of the structuralist approach. The structure of the model is based on the distinction between structural inflationary pressure and propagation mechanism. the period 1950-1972. The stability of the inflation process is investigated and inflation multiplier estimates are derived for all the exogenous variables in the model. Only a small fraction of the persistent and high inflation during the period can be explained as a result of the structural inflationary pressure. An important factor that explains the high and persistent inflation is the existence of a powerful propagation mechanism of inflation. This means that any exogenous disturbance that affects an important price in the economy can have significant inflationary effects. It seems that the explanation of persistent inflation should be focused on this propagation mechanism.

Book Synopsis Contested Communities by : Thomas Miller Klubock
Download or read book Contested Communities written by Thomas Miller Klubock and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Contested Communities Thomas Miller Klubock analyzes the experiences of the El Teniente copper miners during the first fifty years of the twentieth century. Describing the everyday life and culture of the mining community, its impact on Chilean politics and national events, and the sense of self and identity working-class men and women developed in the foreign-owned enclave, Klubock provides important insights into the cultural and social history of Chile. Klubock shows how a militant working-class community was established through the interplay between capitalist development, state formation, and the ideologies of gender. In describing how the North American copper company attempted to reconfigure and reform the work and social-cultural lives of men and women who migrated to the mine, Klubock demonstrates how struggles between labor and capital took place on a gendered field of power and reconstituted social constructions of masculinity and femininity. As a result, Contested Communities describes more accurately than any previous study the nature of grassroots labor militancy, working-class culture, and everyday politics of gender relations during crucial years of the Chilean Popular Front in the 1930s and 1940s.
