Book Synopsis Wrecks on Welsh Beaches by : TOM Bennett
Download or read book Wrecks on Welsh Beaches written by TOM Bennett and published by TOM Bennett . This book was released on with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At Low Tide, especially after winter storms, historic shipwrecks are to be seen on many UK beaches. All can be visited on foot, most seen without getting your feet wet. This book describes the stories and details of some 35 that can be seen around the Welsh coast. Two of them have not been positively identified, but the author, using his expertise as a wreck detective has suggested a name for the shipwreck. All these shipwrecks are part of our cultural heritage. Please respect them as historical monuments to our bygone maritime heritage. They are like museum pieces that can be visited freely for us to ponder and learn from. Some of these wrecks have lain in the sand for more than 200 years and if respected now, should still be there in another 200 years.

The coins were part of a cargo on the Dutch West India Company ship Princess wrecked at Mumbles in 1647. Beaver furs, red timber and the bodies of 80 souls were scattered across Swansea Bay and the wreck was salvaged by Squire Mansel of Henllys on the Gower.

Book Synopsis Bronze Bell Wreck by : Sailors' Barmouth
Download or read book Bronze Bell Wreck written by Sailors' Barmouth and published by . This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An historic shipwreck lies just off a remote beach near Harlech Castle, Wales. It sank in 1709, but we still do not know the name of the ship. Cannon, marble blocks and 15th Century coins have been discovered. The wreck was found some fifty years ago and the authorities were notified. The Welsh Assembly for Wales, designated the whole area a Protected Site, yet forbade the original finders from doing any underwater excavation. Despite not being able to look for more objects, a museum at Barmouth has been set up with help from Gwynedd County Council to display some of the artefacts found. This book tells the story of how the wreck was found, why it was designated under the Protection of Wrecks Act 1973, the artefacts so far discovered and the research done to identify the ship's nationality and name. All proceeds of this book go to the Sailors' Institute, Barmouth, a charity whose members help to keep the Ty Gwyn Museum open.
