Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Many Paths to the Baha'i Faith, How People of Different Faith Experiences Discover Fulfillment in the Baha'i Faith, author Nathan Thomas explores the process that many people go through when they investigate this new world religion. The book describes how many people from Jewish, Christian, Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist, Native Faiths, and even agnostic backgrounds perceive and experience the Baha'i Faith. It summarizes some of the elements and teachings that people from these backgrounds often find in common with Baha'is, as the Baha'i Faith teaches that all religions come from the same foundation. It then explores some of the teachings and beliefs of the Baha'i Faith that are attractive to people. From their work for peace, justice, and equality; to their beliefs in the essential unity of science and religion and the practical approach to spiritual development, many people find aspects of this faith that intrigue them and draw them towards it. This religion, founded by a man named Baha'u'llah in the mid-1800's, offers something tangible and inspiring to every single person on the planet. And so when people have an open mind in their spiritual search, they often discover gems hidden in its depths that appeal to them. Lastly, the book explores some of the common challenges that some people overcome as they journey towards accepting this new world faith as their own. These challenges can come in many forms including new interpretations of scripture and prophesy, realizing new truths that overturn their preconceived notions, and believing that they have the personal power to change their lives and accept something new. With the help of illustrative stories, quotations from the Baha'i Holy Writings, and a brisk and conversational style, Many Paths to the Baha'i Faith can help people from a variety of backgrounds explore the Baha'i Faith from different perspectives.

Book excerpt: This is the first book-length study that explores the history and nature of vrats—votive fasting rites—the role these rites play in the religious lives of Hindu women in North India, and the meanings these women attribute to them. By placing vrats within the context of various Hindu religious categories such as concepts of time; types of religious activities; goals; notions of purity and pollution; auspiciousness and inauspiciousness, the book demonstrates how the concept of vrat provides a lens to the Hindu worldview. Accordingly, it offers insight into the nature of Hindu popular religion in general and women's religion in particular. Drawing extensively on the personal narratives of individual women, this study subtly corrects the prevailing view that all women observe vrats solely for the benefit of others. The author shows that Hindu women's sense of duty and obligation to ensure the well-being of their families through the performance of vrats explains only part of the appeal of these rites. The data demonstrate that women also perform vrats for the social, physical, psychological, and spiritual benefits. Not only do vrats provide an avenue for the expression of profound spiritual yearnings, but some women use vrats as a way to gain a measure of control over their own lives, a source of empowerment in an environment in which women frequently lack control and self-determination.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of us are not found to be wanting in loyalty to our faiths; the problem is to cultivate a healthy respect for what others believe! This is a worthy aim which Dada J.P. Vaswani can surely help you achieve with this balanced, thoughtful work, written in the true Indian spirit of reverence and appreciation for all approaches to Truth and Divinity. The author presents each religion as a precious jewel embellished in the crown of world civilization. Whether it is Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Jainism, Judaism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Baha’ism, Sufism or Zoroastrianism, the individual artefact is distinct, precious and unique. But the sub-stratum of belief that is at the core of their structure is eternal and unchanging: faith in the One God and the unity and fellowship of all Creation. And running as a golden thread through them all is the ultimate law which every faith never ever fails to emphasise: Do nothing that may cause pain to others. Here is a book which will reinforce your faith in humanity and help you become aware of what Vedanta emphasises: the One behind the Many, the Single Divinity behind the multiplicity of thought and creation.
