Book excerpt: A long history of migration, trade, and shared interests links China to Latin America and the Caribbean. Over the past twenty years, China has increased direct investment and restructured trade relations in the region. In addition, Chinese public sector enterprises, private companies, and various branches of the central government have planned, developed, and built a large number of infrastructure projects in Latin America and the Caribbean, such as dams, roads, railways, energy grids, security systems, telecommunication networks, hospitals, and schools. These projects have had a profound impact on local environments and economies and help shape the lived experiences of individuals. Each chapter in this volume examines how the impact of these infrastructure projects varies in different countries, focusing on how they produce new forms of global connectivity between various sectors of the economy and the resulting economic and cultural links that permeate everyday life.

Arrian y Plutarco trataban de darle a su imagen un carácter más realista, pero incluso tenían una historia sobre él era simplemente extraordinario. Book Synopsis American Chinese Restaurants by : Jenny Banh
Download or read book American Chinese Restaurants written by Jenny Banh and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-09-05 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With case studies from the USA, Canada, Chile, and other countries in Latin America, American Chinese Restaurants examines the lived experiences of what it is like to work in a Chinese restaurant. The book provides ethnographic insights on small family businesses, struggling immigrant parents, and kids working, living, and growing up in an American Chinese restaurant. This is the first book based on personal histories to document and analyze the American Chinese restaurant world. New narratives by various international and American contributors have presented Chinese restaurants as dynamic agencies that raise questions on identity, ethnicity, transnationalism, industrialization, (post)modernity, assimilation, public and civic spheres, and socioeconomic differences. American Chinese Restaurants will be of interest to general readers, scholars, and college students from undergraduate to graduate level, who wish to know Chinese restaurant life and understand the relationship between food and society.

Book Synopsis The Motivated Syntax of Arbitrary Signs by : Erica C. Garcia
Download or read book The Motivated Syntax of Arbitrary Signs written by Erica C. Garcia and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2009 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This detailed study challenges the claim that syntax is arbitrary and autonomous, as well as the assumption that Spanish clitic clusters constitute grammaticalized units. Diverse--apparently unrelated--restrictions on clitic clustering in both simplex VP's and Accusative cum Infinitive structures are shown to be cognitively motivated, given the meaning of the individual clitics, and the compositional/interpretative routines those meanings motivate. The analysis accounts, in coherent and principled fashion, for the absolute non-occurrence of some clusters, and the interpretation-dependent acceptability of all remaining clitic combinations: cluster acceptability depends on the ease with which the given clitic combination can be processed to yield a congruent message; there is no point in combining clitics whose meanings preclude speedy processing of the cluster. The monograph goes beyond previous work on Spanish clitics in its wealth of data, the range of syntactic phenomena discussed, and its analytic scope.

In its paragraphs are the whole path very well written but very concrete and very raw. There is more than enough information in order to clarify the priorities to which this study applies (illustrated with the 22 "official" Tarot Trumps of the Gnostic Movement drawn by Iglasias Janeiro). Also includes a sizable editor's Appendix with the following texts: -Sepher Yetzirah -The Twelve Keys of Basil Valentine -Viridarium Chymicum -Tarot Prediction.
