Book Synopsis Transport Phenomena in Porous Media by : Derek B Ingham
Download or read book Transport Phenomena in Porous Media written by Derek B Ingham and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-09-07 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research into thermal convection in porous media has substantially increased during recent years due to its numerous practical applications. These problems have attracted the attention of industrialists, engineers and scientists from many very diversified disciplines, such as applied mathematics, chemical, civil, environmental, mechanical and nuclear engineering, geothermal physics and food science. Thus, there is a wealth of information now available on convective processes in porous media and it is therefore appropriate and timely to undertake a new critical evaluation of this contemporary information. Transport Phenomena in Porous Media contains 17 chapters and represents the collective work of 27 of the world's leading experts, from 12 countries, in heat transfer in porous media. The recent intensive research in this area has substantially raised the expectations for numerous new practical applications and this makes the book a most timely addition to the existing literature. It includes recent major developments in both the fundamentals and applications, and provides valuable information to researchers dealing with practical problems in thermal convection in porous media. Each chapter of the book describes recent developments in the highly advanced analytical, numerical and experimental techniques which are currently being employed and discussions of possible future developments are provided. Such reviews not only result in the consolidation of the currently available information, but also facilitate the identification of new industrial applications and research topics which merit further work.
Book Synopsis Simulation of Flow in Porous Media by : Peter Bastian
Download or read book Simulation of Flow in Porous Media written by Peter Bastian and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2013-07-31 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Subsurface flow problems are inherently multiscale in space due to the large variability of material properties and in time due to the coupling of many different physical processes, such as advection, diffusion, reaction and phase exchange. Subsurface flow models still need considerable development. For example, nonequilibrium effects, entrapped air, anomalous dispersion and hysteresis effects can still not be adequately described. Moreover, parameters of the models are diffcult to access and often uncertain. Computational issues in subsurface flows include the treatment of strong heterogeneities and anisotropies in the models, the effcient solution of transport-reaction problems with many species, treatment of multiphase-multicomponent flows and the coupling of subsurface flow models to surface flow models given by shallow water or Stokes equations. With respect to energy and the environment, in particular the modelling and simulation of radioactive waste management and sequestration of CO2 underground have gained high interest in the community in recent years. Both applications provide unique challenges ranging from modelling of clay materials to treating very large scale models with high-performance computing. This book brings together key numerical mathematicians whose interest is in the analysis and computation of multiscale subsurface flow and practitioners from engineering and industry whose interest is in the applications of these core problems.

Book excerpt: The June 2001 conference brought together mathematicians, computational scientists, and engineers working on the mathematical and numerical treatment of fluid flow and transport in porous media. This collection of 43 papers from that conference reports on recent advances in network flow modeling, parallel computation, optimization, upscaling, uncertainty reduction, media characterization, and chemically reactive phenomena. Topics include modeling horizontal wells using hybrid grids in reservoir simulation, a high order Lagrangian scheme for flow through unsaturated porous media, and a streamline front tracking method for two- and three- phase flow. Download or read book Modeling Phenomena of Flow and Transport in Porous Media written by Jacob Bear and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-01-25 with total page 761 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents and discusses the construction of mathematical models that describe phenomena of flow and transport in porous media as encountered in civil and environmental engineering, petroleum and agricultural engineering, as well as chemical and geothermal engineering. The phenomena of transport of extensive quantities, like mass of fluid phases, mass of chemical species dissolved in fluid phases, momentum and energy of the solid matrix and of fluid phases occupying the void space of porous medium domains are encountered in all these disciplines. The book, which can also serve as a text for courses on modeling in these disciplines, starts from first principles and focuses on the construction of well-posed mathematical models that describe all these transport phenomena.
