Download or read book The Theory of Diffusion in Strained Systems written by Louis A. Girifalco and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 1082 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A general theory of solid-state diffusion in strained systems is developed on a molecular-kinetic basis. The theory predicts that for simple strains the diffusion coefficient is an exponential function of the lattice parameter and that the rate of change of the diffusion coefficient with strain is linearly related to the interatomic forces. It has also been shown that for plastic flow the diffusion coefficient is a linear function of strain rate. All the conclusions are confirmed by the data available in the literature.

Book excerpt: 343 Whilst this may be so it is also true that this in itself is not sufficient to deter mine it completely. In fact the extent of the dead air region and the behaviour of the shear layer are also of prime importance and in short a unified treatment comprising external flow, boundary layer, shear layer and dead air region becomes necessary to complete the investigation. This would take us outside the scope of the present article and for the substantial progress that has been made towards such a treatment the reader is referred to a paper by HOLDER and GADD 1 and its comprehensive list of references. v. Heat transfer in incompressible boundary layers. 25. Introduction. The term fluid includes gases and liquids. Both gases and liquids are to some extent compressible but in many problems of fluid flow the density changes occurring are small. When they are small enough to be negligible we can regard the flow as incompressible. In Chap. IV we have established the equations for compressible flow of gases and these can of course be used to deter mine when density changes in a gas flow are in fact negligible. Broadly speaking this will be so when the temperature changes as determined by the energy equation are small enough.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chemistry of Propellants is a collection of papers and comments presented at the meeting on "The Chemistry of Propellants, held in Paris, France on June 8-12, 1959, organized by the AGARD Combustion and Propulsion Panel. This book is organized into six parts encompassing 25 chapters that serve as an introduction to the broad and important subject of propellant chemistry and propulsion applications. The first part deals with the sources, availability, and comparative costing of propulsion system. The second and third parts discuss the theoretical, thermodynamic, and experimental aspects of liquid and solid propellants. The fourth part examines the main problems concerning preparation, storage, and use of propellants for ramjet, while the fifth part looks into the factors leading to deposits in jet engines and some of the consequences of their existence. The sixth part covers the advantages of the high energy chemical propellants, including fluorine and hydrogen. Combustion and propulsion scientists and researchers will find this book beneficial.
Book Synopsis High Angle of Attack Aerodynamics by : Josef Rom
Download or read book High Angle of Attack Aerodynamics written by Josef Rom and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aerodynamics of aircraft at high angles of attack is a subject which is being pursued diligently, because the modern agile fighter aircraft and many of the current generation of missiles must perform well at very high incidence, near and beyond stall. However, a comprehensive presentation of the methods and results applicable to the studies of the complex aerodynamics at high angle of attack has not been covered in monographs or textbooks. This book is not the usual textbook in that it goes beyond just presenting the basic theoretical and experimental know-how, since it contains reference material to practical calculation methods and technical and experimental results which can be useful to the practicing aerospace engineers and scientists. It can certainly be used as a text and reference book for graduate courses on subjects related to high angles of attack aerodynamics and for topics related to three-dimensional separation in viscous flow courses. In addition, the book is addressed to the aerodynamicist interested in a comprehensive reference to methods of analysis and computations of high angle of attack flow phenomena and is written for the aerospace scientist and engineer who is familiar with the basic concepts of viscous and inviscid flows and with computational methods used in fluid dynamics.
