Book Synopsis Arctic Geology and Petroleum Potential by : T.O. Vorren
Download or read book Arctic Geology and Petroleum Potential written by T.O. Vorren and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 763 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the search for hydrocarbon resources in the Arctic started in the 1930's the exploration activity has expanded into many of the Arctic regions, and several of the Arctic sedimentary basins have proven to be important sources of hydrocarbon. Nevertheless, the Arctic continental margins and adjacent onshore areas are still largely unexplored in the context of petroleum, and are therefore considered to be one of the few regions in the world where significant undiscovered sources of hydrocarbon may exist. The aim of the book is to give an updated overview of the geology of the Arctic sedimentary basins and their petroleum potential. Although the different basins vary significantly as regards sedimentary fill and tectonic evolution, many of the basins share some of the characteristics needed to become prolific oil and gas provinces. The book contains 45 extensively illustrated articles. It starts with papers on the Mesozoic source rocks, and oceanic natural gas clatrates in the Arctic, respectively. Then follow articles on the regional and petroleum geology of the main regions; Greenland, North American Arctic, Soviet Arctic and the Barents Sea. Particular emphasis is placed on the Barents Sea. The two last chapters comprise articles on salt dynamics and methods. The book closes with a paper on international law in the Arctic. This volume will be of interest to both students and professional earth scientists/petroleum explorationists working in the northern latitudes. It will allow the readers to stay abreast of the development in this climatic region of the world.
Book Synopsis Petroleum Exploration in Northern Canada by : G. R. Morrell
Download or read book Petroleum Exploration in Northern Canada written by G. R. Morrell and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide describes 19 exploration regions of northern Canada which, in most cases, conform to the extent of underlying sedimentary basins. The introduction provides an overview of the oil and gas resources of northern Canada and their production history. For each sedimentary basin, the information provided includes description of the basin's geological setting, exploration history, stratigraphy, potential hydrocarbon reservoirs, hydrocarbon traps and seals, source rocks, and production potential. Basins with low potential are summarized briefly, with more detailed treatment reserved for basins with high potential.

Book Synopsis Regional Surveying of Canadian Arctic Offshore Basins for Potential Natural Oil Seeps Using Satellite Radar by : V. Decker
Download or read book Regional Surveying of Canadian Arctic Offshore Basins for Potential Natural Oil Seeps Using Satellite Radar written by V. Decker and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrocarbon seeps are sometimes known to occur in association with oil producing basins. Natural oil seeps are known from offshore basins in Canada, but remain relatively unstudied when compared to those from other areas around the world. As part of petroleum exploration activities, surveying for the presence of natural seeps can provide clues about the hydrocarbon potential of the region. ...

Book Synopsis Petroleum Resource Potential of Sedimentary Basins on the Pacific Margin of Canada by : P. K. Hannigan
Download or read book Petroleum Resource Potential of Sedimentary Basins on the Pacific Margin of Canada written by P. K. Hannigan and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report assesses the oil & gas resource potential in the Cenozoic and Mesozoic strata of the three major sedimentary basins of the Pacific margin of Canada: the Tofino, Queen Charlotte, and Georgia basins. Ten conceptual petroleum plays are defined on the basis of various geological controls, with most plays identified from stratigraphic considerations. Once defined, the ten plays are each statistically analyzed to estimate their hydrocarbon resource potential. Total potential & field sizes quoted in the report are all median value estimates of in-place hydrocarbon volumes.
