Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Henstock?Kurzweil integral, which is also known as the generalized Riemann integral, arose from a slight modification of the classical Riemann integral more than 50 years ago. This relatively new integral is known to be equivalent to the classical Perron integral; in particular, it includes the powerful Lebesgue integral. This book presents an introduction of the multiple Henstock?Kurzweil integral. Along with the classical results, this book contains some recent developments connected with measures, multiple integration by parts, and multiple Fourier series. The book can be understood with a prerequisite of advanced calculus.

Book excerpt: GAUGE INTEGRAL STRUCTURES FOR STOCHASTIC CALCULUS AND QUANTUM ELECTRODYNAMICS A stand-alone introduction to specific integration problems in the probabilistic theory of stochastic calculus Picking up where his previous book, A Modern Theory of Random Variation, left off, Gauge Integral Structures for Stochastic Calculus and Quantum Electrodynamics introduces readers to particular problems of integration in the probability-like theory of quantum mechanics. Written as a motivational explanation of the key points of the underlying mathematical theory, and including ample illustrations of the calculus, this book relies heavily on the mathematical theory set out in the author’s previous work. That said, this work stands alone and does not require a reading of A Modern Theory of Random Variation in order to be understandable. Gauge Integral Structures for Stochastic Calculus and Quantum Electrodynamics takes a gradual, relaxed, and discursive approach to the subject in a successful attempt to engage the reader by exploring a narrower range of themes and problems. Organized around examples with accompanying introductions and explanations, the book covers topics such as: Stochastic calculus, including discussions of random variation, integration and probability, and stochastic processes Field theory, including discussions of gauges for product spaces and quantum electrodynamics Robust and thorough appendices, examples, illustrations, and introductions for each of the concepts discussed within An introduction to basic gauge integral theory (for those unfamiliar with the author’s previous book) The methods employed in this book show, for instance, that it is no longer necessary to resort to unreliable “Black Box” theory in financial calculus; that full mathematical rigor can now be combined with clarity and simplicity. Perfect for students and academics with even a passing interest in the application of the gauge integral technique pioneered by R. Henstock and J. Kurzweil, Gauge Integral Structures for Stochastic Calculus and Quantum Electrodynamics is an illuminating and insightful exploration of the complex mathematical topics contained within.

The original papers are in difficult to obtain Soviet journals. This translation makes this important work available to wider audience and shows for the first time in English that the Denjoy integral has applications in both real and complex analysis. In addition, the longest chapter of the book is devoted to the theory of a two dimensional extension of the wide Denjoy integral. The book is a self contained treatment of the integral in one and two dimensions, together with details of most known applications of these integrals to analysis, both real and complex. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A ground-breaking and practical treatment of probability and stochastic processes A Modern Theory of Random Variation is a new and radical re-formulation of the mathematical underpinnings of subjects as diverse as investment, communication engineering, and quantum mechanics. Setting aside the classical theory of probability measure spaces, the book utilizes a mathematically rigorous version of the theory of random variation that bases itself exclusively on finitely additive probability distribution functions. In place of twentieth century Lebesgue integration and measure theory, the author uses the simpler concept of Riemann sums, and the non-absolute Riemann-type integration of Henstock. Readers are supplied with an accessible approach to standard elements of probability theory such as the central limmit theorem and Brownian motion as well as remarkable, new results on Feynman diagrams and stochastic integrals. Throughout the book, detailed numerical demonstrations accompany the discussions of abstract mathematical theory, from the simplest elements of the subject to the most complex. In addition, an array of numerical examples and vivid illustrations showcase how the presented methods and applications can be undertaken at various levels of complexity. A Modern Theory of Random Variation is a suitable book for courses on mathematical analysis, probability theory, and mathematical finance at the upper-undergraduate and graduate levels. The book is also an indispensible resource for researchers and practitioners who are seeking new concepts, techniques and methodologies in data analysis, numerical calculation, and financial asset valuation. Patrick Muldowney, PhD, served as lecturer at the Magee Business School of the UNiversity of Ulster for over twenty years. Dr. Muldowney has published extensively in his areas of research, including integration theory, financial mathematics, and random variation.

Book excerpt: The main goal of this Handbook is to survey measure theory with its many different branches and its relations with other areas of mathematics. Mostly aggregating many classical branches of measure theory the aim of the Handbook is also to cover new fields, approaches and applications which support the idea of "measure" in a wider sense, e.g. the ninth part of the Handbook. Although chapters are written of surveys in the various areas they contain many special topics and challenging problems valuable for experts and rich sources of inspiration. Mathematicians from other areas as well as physicists, computer scientists, engineers and econometrists will find useful results and powerful methods for their research. The reader may find in the Handbook many close relations to other mathematical areas: real analysis, probability theory, statistics, ergodic theory, functional analysis, potential theory, topology, set theory, geometry, differential equations, optimization, variational analysis, decision making and others. The Handbook is a rich source of relevant references to articles, books and lecture notes and it contains for the reader's convenience an extensive subject and author index.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to be self-contained, giving the theory of absolute (equivalent to Lebesgue) and non-absolute (equivalent to Denjoy-Perron) integration by using a simple extension of the Riemann integral. A useful tool for mathematicians and scientists needing advanced integration theory would be a method combining the ideas of the calculus of indefinite integral and Riemann definite integral in such a way that Lebesgue properties can be proved easily.Three important results that have not appeared in any other book distinguish this book from the rest. First a result on limits of sequences under the integral sign, secondly the necessary and sufficient conditions for the various limits under the integral sign and thirdly the application of these results to ordinary differential equations. The present book will give non-absolute integration theory just as easily as the absolute theory, and Stieltjes-type integration too.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers to the reader a self-contained treatment and systematic exposition of the real-valued theory of a nonabsolute integral on measure spaces. It is an introductory textbook to Henstock–Kurzweil type integrals defined on abstract spaces. It contains both classical and original results that are accessible to a large class of readers. It is widely acknowledged that the biggest difficulty in defining a Henstock–Kurzweil integral beyond Euclidean spaces is the definition of a set of measurable sets which will play the role of "intervals" in the abstract setting. In this book the author shows a creative and innovative way of defining "intervals" in measure spaces, and prove many interesting and important results including the well-known Radon–Nikodým theorem. That way, even though the setting is abstract, this book is accessible to any undergraduate who has done an advanced calculus courseThe key idea behind each original concept is always explained in an intuitive manner before the formal definitions and results are presented in detail

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Topological Dynamics has its roots deep in the theory of differential equations, specifically in that portion called the "qualitative theory". The most notable early work was that of Poincare and Bendixson, regarding stability of solutions of differential equations, and the subject has grown around this nucleus. It has developed now to a point where it is fully capable of standing on its own feet as a branch of Mathematics studied for its intrinsic interest and beauty, and since the publication of Topological Dynamics by Gottschalk and Hedlund, it has been the subject of widespread study in its own right, as well as for the light it sheds on differential equations. The Bibliography for Topological Dyna mics by Gottschalk contains 1634 entries in the 1969 edition, and progress in the field since then has been even more prodigious. The study of dynamical systems is an idealization of the physical studies bearing such names as aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, electrodynamics, etc. We begin with some space (call it X) and we imagine in this space some sort of idealized particles which change position as time passes.
