There’s technology out there to do almost everything for us. When was the last time you sat down with pen and paper and did a simple math problem? You know, add, subtract, multiply, or divide. Calculators and computers can do this for us. Most of us have to do business with banks. Many of you have felt that you’ve been cheated or just plain taken advantage of by banks. There are high interest rates, overdraft fees, other fees and other hidden cost. You might be surprised to find out that banks will take money from your account without any accountability. You had better brush up on your math skills. I served in the United States Air Force and lived in several states and in Great Britain. Over the past 38 years, I’ve had bank accounts in the United States and abroad. My story is about my encounters with only four of these banks. One good and three that was not so pleasant. Money was taken from my accounts without accountability. I’ll show you how I was able to keep track of their actions and finally what I did about it.

Book Synopsis Behind the Bars by : Frederick John Desroches
Download or read book Behind the Bars written by Frederick John Desroches and published by Canadian Scholars’ Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bank robbers. Who are they? Where do they come from? What motivates individuals to commit these crimes? Behind the Bars: Experiences in Crime examines these questions in this intriguing study of the life situations, relationships, and value systems of people who commit serious crimes. Based on eight years of research with law enforcement officials, the media, and interviews with more than eighty Canadian and American bank robbers, Behind the Bars goes behind the facelessness of the crime itself and into the hearts and minds of the offenders. Meet an ex-police officer, drug addicts, compulsive gamblers, a senior citizen, two con-authors, an exotic dancer, family men, informants, and career criminals. Their strikingly candid stories will inspire a great range of emotions, but most of all they will provide greater understanding of criminal behaviour. Frederick J. Desroches humanizes the offender by shedding signficant light on the social and economic conditions of offenders; on the dynamics of criminal partnerships; and on the problems many of these men experience and bring on themselves. Desroches balances the passion of criminals' stories with thematic and theoretical overviews of specific issues to create an exciting account that will capture the attention and imagination of any reader who has ever wondered why criminals commit crimes.

The budget is zero, the cast and crew are clueless, and the whole production seems headed for disaster. But the rise and fall of Vernon Triumph just might turn out to be so silly it’s sublime. He gets the degree all right, but in the process manages to disrupt his home town, his friends of long ago, his reputation, and the college. The depiction of the artist's life in the United States is disturbingly accurate and hilariously described, with Harry Callahan as the shambling, overweight, incurably honest example. Chasing the Sun is Fahy's comedic and humane triumph.

Download or read book Dangerous Boys written by Greg F. Gifune and published by Down & Out Books. This book was released on 2018-03-05 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A searing crime novel…Gifune shows his versatility in this coming-of-age tale.” —Publishers Weekly All they had was each other…and nothing to lose… Summer, 1984. For Richie Lionetti and his gang of friends, their years as teenagers are coming to an end. At a crossroad in their lives as petty criminals and thugs on the mean streets of New Bedford, Massachusetts, they’ve got one final summer, one last chance to fall in love, brawl for their turf, rob and pillage, and one last chance to make a move and pull a job that could change their lives forever. As a series of brutal heatwaves hit southeastern Massachusetts, the city boils, and everyone is on edge. In the hopes of finding something better, Richie desperately searches for meaning in all the violence, sex and degradation that is his daily life. But at what price? Part coming-of-age tale, part dark crime thriller, Dangerous Boys is the story of a group of young punks with nothing left to lose, fighting to find themselves, their futures, and a way out of the madness and darkness before it’s too late. Praise for DANGEROUS BOYS: “Extremely well written and quite compelling, Dangerous Boys hits all the right marks. It’s a novel you’ll enjoy reading and regret when the last page is turned. Reminded me a bit of Dennis Lehane, a bit of Martin Scorsese, and a bit of S.E. Hinton. What I’m saying is: Greg F. Gifune has written a crime novel that’s character-driven, jarringly violent, and somehow tender.” —Grant Jerkins, author of Abnormal Man “Dangerous Boys may well be the best thing Greg F. Gifune has written, and that’s a tall order given his deep and accomplished oeuvre. Stunning, breathtaking, and a bloody nightmare of a ride, this crime novel will reverberate through every inch of your heart and soul, and will cement Greg’s already top-shelf reputation with readers of real literature.” —Trey R. Barker, author of the Jace Salome novels “Dangerous Boys is Vision Quest meets The Outsiders with a dash of Less Than Zero thrown in. If none of those references make any sense to you, then you have some reading to do...AFTER you devour Dangerous Boys! Whether you want nostalgia, pain, darkness, sex, violence, or struggle, you’ll find it here.” —Frank Zafiro, author of Blood on Blood “This is it—a gritty, street-wise, cigarette-behind-the-ear coming-of-age novel that evokes Hinton’s The Outsiders, the best of Dennis Lehane, and a dash of Mean Streets. Gifune continues to astound, able to perfectly balance the darkest parts of humanity with its most tender moments. Dangerous Boys is Gifune at his best.” —Ronald Malfi, author of Bone White “Dangerous Boys is a testosterone-fueled, taut moral tale in the tradition of Nelson Algren’s lonely street hustlers and Richard Price’s The Wanderers. Greg F. Gifune drops you into the backseat of an IROC cruising the hot mean streets with cigarette smoke in your eyes and last night’s booze on everyone’s breath. He makes your palms sweat and your heart break for these small-time hoods. Fast, brutal, vivid action—and dialogue as sharp as a broken pool stick. These boys are gonna kick your ass!” —Steven Sidor, author of Fury From the Tomb
Book Synopsis To Rob a Bank Is an Honor by : Lucio Urtubia
Download or read book To Rob a Bank Is an Honor written by Lucio Urtubia and published by AK Press. This book was released on 2024-12-03 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time in English, the life story of the revolutionary outlaw who brought Citibank to its knees. In 1981, Lucio Urtubia received a suitcase full of cash from Citibank executives, handed over the plates he’d used to forge 20 million dollars in traveler’s checks, and walked away a free man. This is the true story of the most famous Robin Hood of the twentieth century, a lifelong anarchist who robbed from the rich to give to liberation struggles the world round. Born to a poor family in the Basque Country, Urtubia was conscripted into Franco’s army at seventeen, where he began smuggling rations from military stores. In 1954, he fled to exile in Paris, where he learned to work as a mason, laying bricks by day and collaborating with Catalonian anarchists by night. Soon, he was planning bank heists to fund the Spanish struggle, stealing weapons, and masterminding the escape of resistance fighters. Following the uprisings of May 1968, Urtubia opened a printshop, producing political pamphlets while amassing a crew of operatives to counterfeit passports, ID cards, and workers’ paychecks. By the late 70s, Urtubia hit on the plan that would make him infamous: changing the serial numbers on traveler’s checks and depositing them simultaneously. Citibank’s early global banking system offered the prime target, and checks spread to revolutionary movements in Europe, Latin America, and the United States. “He who robs a thief is a thousand times forgiven,” Urtubia argued. Over decades, Urtubia funneled material support to groups including the Red Brigades in Italy, the Baader-Meinhof group in Germany, the Black Panthers in the US, and the ETA Basque separatists. Told with Urtubia's characteristic warmth and humor, To Rob a Bank Is an Honor collects the adventures and political convictions of this larger-than-life figure of an incendiary era.
